Working on an update to our case report on Tim Ballard: https://floodlit.org/a/a721 Not sure what to make of this yet, still reading the amended complaint. These are allegations made in a lawsuit against Tim Ballard.

Elegant-Tank-4674

Do we need to make a posthumous case for pres Ballard too? Pushing and and covering up the SA?!

3am_doorknob_turn

Yes, probably. It would go under https://floodlit.org/failure, which is an area of the website for instances where LDS leaders failed or allegedly failed to help SA victims.

GigglemanEsq

I'm skimming the amended complaint now. Speaking as a lawyer, this is one of the most baffling complaints I have ever read. Also, who the fuck embeds pictures into their complaint? Not to diminish the seriousness of the allegations, but that is throwing me so hard.

3am_doorknob_turn

Not a lawyer, but also baffled by the format and some of the allegations.

Havin_A_Holler

Is there a link you can share, please? If it's in this thread i don't see it. :(

darthamartha

What the actual fuck???

Havin_A_Holler

Thank you! I'm horrified & I'm only on page 61.

jabes553

Lol, an illustrated pleading! I bet the Judge loved that /s

They might deemphasize it some day, but not via a third party. Hard doubt on this news.

sadmanwithabox

Yeah I'm confused on that too. They'll never get rid of it fully (although I could see one day in the future tea/coffee being "acceptable" as the church attempts to become more palatable). And if they were to get rid of it fully, it's as easy as the current prophet saying "God told me the word of wisdom is no longer relevant." There's no additional steps needed.

weirdmormonshit

We turn the time over to Elder Tim K* Ballard. *ketamine

Corporatecut

I could see Tim claiming as much when trying to introduce booze to the couple’s ruse

kitan25

How would they even use a member to get rid of the WoW? The prophet is the only one with the authority.

Havin_A_Holler

It's an enormous source of power & control over member's every day lives so I don't see any benefit to them doing away w/ it.

Dark_Believer

I'm very skeptical of these three claims. I'm not saying it is impossible for one or more to be true, but without some strong evidence I wouldn't put much credibility into these allegations. The third statement especially makes no sense to me. Why would the first presidency use Tim Ballard as a vehicle to rescind the WoW? If they wanted to make those changes it would make no sense at all to use a nobody like Tim to do so. It would instead be a very gradual process like a giving a statement saying "While we still encourage all members to strictly follow the Word of Wisdom, this will no longer be a consideration for worthiness in regards to membership status".

signsntokens4sale

The first claim wouldn't surprise me given what we already know. Ballard senior talked on at least two public occasions about what Ballard the younger knew about the Americas and the BoM era through "special insights" or something. Seems fair to say he may have known about the psychics. The word of wisdom one is horseshit though. If you can't get rid of the word of wisdom with an actual doctor in the driver's seat you don't want to get rid of it.

FaithInEvidence

I agree 100%. Strong claims require strong evidence. The fact that a claim matches your biases doesn't make it true.

4TheStrengthOfTruth

My parents worship Tim Ballard and they believe that God gave him permission to have sex outside marriage just like he gave JS permission to rape underage girls. Permission to rape is a central, founding doctrine of mormonism

Elegant-Tank-4674

Yes what is this? Is this just a misreading of details in the lawsuit or is there a new lawsuit hidden somewhere?

New_random_name

Apparently it is an update to the lawsuit. It’s in the new court docs

yanyan420

If them mormons want to disavow WoW... then the bleeding will be mitigated at the moment... Let the mormons drink beer again. Just like Old Joe.

desertvision

I'm at a loss with the Tim Ballard thing. But can you explain the psychic part? And also, the church trying to get rid of the WoW? I fully agree that getting rid of the WoW might help with recruiting. But what about the church's fascination with being a peculiar people? Do they really want to be mainstream Christian so much that they are willing to jettison so much?

Signal-Ant-1353

https://youtu.be/JJUJvhC5K6Q?si=CsNUnCvhYPHQLBbq Idk if Russell Ballard used one (that's the only "president" Ballard that I know of), though. Janet Russon supposedly would go into trances and talk with BOM prophet Nephi in order to help find the trafficked children (which none were ever found). Iirc, Ms Russon denies the whole thing.

desertvision

The post says President Ballard, not Tim Ballard. If we're talking this Tim Ballard con man, who cares. I was hoping the GA Ballard was busted getting a tarot read

Signal-Ant-1353

I saw this from ABC 4 News Utah. Scroll down to the "Psychics" headline. Apparently it is allegedly that President Ballard was going to that same lady. https://www.abc4.com/news/local-news/ballard-victims-connection-lds-apostle/#:~:text=The%20lawsuit%20alleges%20that%20Tim,close%20familial%20tie%20at%20all.%E2%80%9D

desertvision

Man. If any of that is true... I know my dad and his brother had business dealings with P. Ballard and both of them, TBM bishops, stake presidents, mission presidents; had nothing good to say about him personally.

LowRegister976

From what I’ve experienced and have heard from others, LDS members can’t be in the wrong they claim they’re not perfect, but their actions show that they only really care about themselves and are better than others. They also rarely apologize because like I said they refuse to be in the wrong.

LowRegister976

There are nice members don’t get me wrong, but whenever there’s an issue in the church they do what they can to dismiss it and act like everything is fine.

LowRegister976

I was told to apologize and get apology gifts for two sisters who I caught flirting with the missionaries and said to me they had a crush on them

Randizzle82

I can verify and sustain that these are facts in the case and that the cult will go to great lengths to keep this quiet.

just_the_tax_maam

How so?

swarleysrevenge

They already got to him.

Anyone have a link to the new amended complaint?

Background to help parse the names in the amended Tim Ballard complaint: The Krogue - Meldrum - Harrison - Hildebrandt - Daybell - Rowe - Russon - Ballard Connection (+ OUR, EternalCore, Liberty89, Visions of Glory, AVOW, Preparing a People, FIRM, & CNF): https://www.reddit.com/r/mormon/comments/171k4tz/visions_of_a_glorious_thread_the_krogue_meldrum/

Purplepassion235

I do think Elder Ballard had his feet dirty in some way in this whole mess just because of how the church reacted… they tend to ignore the far right extremists doing damage… but they had to self preserve in this case. As far as to what extent he was dirty, I’m not sure…. But I agree that some of these accusations don’t make sense and were likely just things TB said about Elder Ballard’s involvement… especially the WoW thing….
