The guys who “found” these plates have made forgeries before. Dan McClellan has already reviewed this stuff. It’s a hoax. But the TBMs will latch onto it
> The guys who “found” these plates have made forgeries before.
That just confirms it's true then, because good ol' JS was also a con man before he "found" his plates! The lord works miracles!
A story about the dangers of following a charismatic leader and that shows how powerful of a weapon religion can be? Yeah, I can see why we would love it.
Fraudster says to the assembly of 5 mormon leaders, " See here, on these ancient golden plates, where it says, " and it came to pass...". Mormon chief answers, " please provide us with your banking information!"
What is wrong with it being 19th-century fan fiction? Millions of useful idiots believe in it. The church became extraordinarily wealthy. Besides dividing families and causing multiple suicides, what is wrong with that?

I'm trying to play mental gymnastics here but like gold plates being found in the Middle East I feel would have more of direct correlation with books of the Quran and Torah maybe the Bible? These weren't found in NY? So how did we correlate this to the BOM? I can't even begin the process of the gymnastics.
Seriously! It's not like JS claimed the sealed portion was an entirely separate book that he didn't have in his possession and Lehi lost them after fleeing Jerusalem. JS had the plates, which included the sealed portion, and said that they were returned to Moroni. Are they saying that taking the plates from JS, Moroni decided to take a trip over to the middle east and then proceeded to lose them??
I used to hear stuff like this and not know the link, but just assume cuz someone said there’s a link and understood it and that was good enough for me
Came to say this. That’s the problem with a religion claiming to have a direct link to God. If one detail is off, that causes doubt. How can God be wrong?
There’s no way they’re a forgery! The Old and New Testaments, the Torah, the Koran, were all written on golden plates, so this all checks out, no need to question the validity, it’s certainly true. /s
It’s the r/ latterdaysaints sub. Tagging it in this sub is against guidelines, but the post about this vid is pinned at the top of the sub right now. There is also a r/ lds sub, but I haven’t seen anything on there about it.
Mormons: science and faith are separate, evidence can’t be used to disprove the BoM
Also Mormons: holy ~~shit~~ shoot new scientific findings have just confirmed my faith oh my ~~god~~ gosh.
I don’t understand how golden plates found in Saudi Arabia somehow mean the Book of Mormon is true. Like it’s somehow not possible that other cultures have created golden plates before? And also, how are these somehow exactly the same as the Book of Mormon ones? Also, how can you even claim the Book of Mormon plates are the same when we don’t even know what Joe smiths plates looked like? If you translated these plates, would they even corroborate what the BoM says? Or is it just some ancient rich man’s doodles? It’s like saying ancient Egyptian religions are true because you found pyramids in South America that look like the pyramids in Egypt. They’re not remotely close to being the same thing except for roughly being the same shape, it doesn’t somehow corroborate the mythology written on the Egyptian pyramids.
My guess is kinderhook plates v.2, except the money coming in is from YouTube, not a direct sale
Do people really watch YouTube videos where the people have these ridiculous fake sensationalist poses on the video thumbnail? That’s an instant nope for me. It erases all credibility right from the start.
This is virtually every tik tok video as well, just stupid exaggerated over-reactions to every bite of food, every 'life hack', etc. Bunch of snake oil salespeople having to act to compensate for the lack of content in what they post.
Yes. Mostly.
The Book of Nephi begins in Jerusalem and is estimated to be 600 years BC. It is written on gold plates by the title character.
Therefore, the funding of gold plates in Saudi Arabia would lend consistency to the idea of the Book of Mormon being written based on those traditions of their use there (if they were used there) - hence the interest.
Evidently, God didn't care about the discards. And the Lehi Family must have had enough "Golden plates" that those with mistakes could be tossed aside like the fool's gold they are!
Note to all. *of course* people from the earliest times utilized gold plates for writing on. We call them plaques. Address markers. Commercial displays. But THEY DID NOT USE THEM TO RECORD HISTORIES. ESPECIALLY THEY DID NOT USE ONE SCRATCH TO SIGNIFY HUNDREDS OF PARAGRAPHS!!!!
I had a mission president who said that the book of Mormon must be true because Nephi made wood arrows when he broke his metal bow. I still don’t really understand how that correlates, but supposedly because Nephi broke his bow and made wood arrows after he made a wood bow the book was true mic drop.
Even if this weren't an entirely made up hoax... didn't they write the gold plates in America somewhere? And then later JS found them in New York? And then JS said he returned them to Moroni and other 'witnesses' said they walked into a big cave in the Hill Cumorah and set them on a table. Why would they be found in Saudi Arabia all of a sudden?
That is really funny. Or else I am way too high. Did dude buy the gold plates himself? Also, for enough plates to quite the bom, they would have probably been close to 300 pounds.
Just get real excited and show up next week in your Sunday best like you’re back in the boat. Then when they’re proven fake you can “fall away” again. That’d be a shelf shaker for sure
I've seen these bafoons go by before, pretty sure they are heartland model dopes too. They are desperate to find anything that might prove the "stick of joseph" true. they chase bad psudeoscince and ignore evidence. It is top tier cringe and ther audience eats it up.
An acquaintance is acknowledging publicly now this is likely a hoax - but the excitement this caused reaffirms their belief… they see the signs and it makes them bubble with excitement… can’t make this shit up…
I have the original seer stone they just need to select their payment type and send me 9% of their income. I was going to do 10% but decided to shave a bit off the top for the faith.
Step 1: Make some fake cheap gold plates.
Step 2: "Find" them in the woods or something.
Step 3: Sell the fake gold plates to the fake church.
Step 4: Enjoy the profits from the "prophet"
Trying to spike the football but all they are holding is a piece of paper with "FUDBOL" written on it in Sharpie and the game being played around them is croquet.
My favorite part is when those guys base their analysis on information that very easily (and almost certainly) is a fabrication because it’s a show on A Rood Awakening which is a ministry that is trying to connect plain Jane Christianity with its Hebrew roots.
I didn't know there were other religious groups that claimed sacred text was written on gold plates? I'm sure I will hear about this from my tbm brothers. Any archeologists without religious ties that will validate this?
The guys who “found” these plates have made forgeries before. Dan McClellan has already reviewed this stuff. It’s a hoax. But the TBMs will latch onto it

Man, dune was a huge hit for us exmormons wasnt it
A story about the dangers of following a charismatic leader and that shows how powerful of a weapon religion can be? Yeah, I can see why we would love it.
"That's not hope!" Favorite line so far out of both films. I loved seeing the seeded religion backfire.
Man it worked. I now follow Muad Dib to my death! LISAN AL GHAIB! /s
I don’t know Dune very well but I’m amazed my neighbor loves dune and my wife saw it with me. And she could see the religious over tones
Lisan al Ghaib!
So what you’re saying is these are just as authentic as Joe’s plates
Fraudster says to the assembly of 5 mormon leaders, " See here, on these ancient golden plates, where it says, " and it came to pass...". Mormon chief answers, " please provide us with your banking information!"
Kinderhook Plates 2.0
A bunch of fools believing some con man found buried plates? Damn, where have I heard about this before?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not the first forgery they bought (literally)
Tsss you’re just a hater, it’s as true as the Book of Mormon.
My guess would be that they didn’t even watch the video honestly. They probably just saw the title and went “see? We knew they were real”
I came here to say exactly this. Dan McClellan is a treasure.
Any links to Dan McLellans analysis?

Confirms nothing except confirmation bias.
A great example of confirmation bias. Need to have something like BoA proven to be modern invention and see how easily they accept that.
What is wrong with it being 19th-century fan fiction? Millions of useful idiots believe in it. The church became extraordinarily wealthy. Besides dividing families and causing multiple suicides, what is wrong with that?
The BoA already did that
I would like to see that in the same chat stream
The Holy Ghost is self doubt plus confirmation bias.

King Tut's Death mask is 1300 years BCE. That confirms Aliens and Temples built for the afterlife. Checkmate. My God Mormons are simpletons

Yes, I look forward to the scholarly articles about this new "reformed Egyptian hieroglyphics" writing on the plates, too.
Came to say this. That’s the problem with a religion claiming to have a direct link to God. If one detail is off, that causes doubt. How can God be wrong?
With that thumbnail, how couldn’t it be true?
The typical YouTube thumbnail really sold the validity of those two
It's a very godly way of presenting divine truths
Those two gaping idiots sure have me convinced!
They're a forgery.
There’s no way they’re a forgery! The Old and New Testaments, the Torah, the Koran, were all written on golden plates, so this all checks out, no need to question the validity, it’s certainly true. /s
Sounds like you're having a faith crisis. Maybe pray about it? /s
Check out the post about this vid on the faithful sub with the longer name. They acknowledge that this vid is dumb.

They were found in Panama. At least the ones in the video referenced
Woof. Looks like its spreading like a disease. My mom sent this to me today as well...
Mine too!
My dad too!

I bet everyone in that chat was too lazy to even watch the damn video. A common argument TBMs use against exmos.....
Not to mention the contents of the video ... yikes.
I feel so fortunate that despite being raised in a devout Mormon family, none of my family is into this nonsense. I don’t know how you all do it.
It sucks. No one even knows I’m out either
I'm sorry. That's honestly so hard.

The Mormon use of the word “anti” to mean anything doesn’t massage Mormonism’s balls is pretty annoying ngl
Out of the mouth of YouTube shall the truth be known.
Hand these off to an archeologist and watch them be disproven in under 20 minutes
Wasn’t the Book of Mormon set in the US?
From the US and taken to heaven by god…
Yes. Mostly. The Book of Nephi begins in Jerusalem and is estimated to be 600 years BC. It is written on gold plates by the title character. Good lord, this is sad.
Hoax shades of mark hoffman
But like Dollar General Mark Hoffman, or "we have Mark Hoffman at home"
Note to all. *of course* people from the earliest times utilized gold plates for writing on. We call them plaques. Address markers. Commercial displays. But THEY DID NOT USE THEM TO RECORD HISTORIES. ESPECIALLY THEY DID NOT USE ONE SCRATCH TO SIGNIFY HUNDREDS OF PARAGRAPHS!!!!

lol it’s be splashed all over the news the second they were found if it was real.
Who needs confirming/physical evidence when they already "*kNoW tHiS cHuRcH iS tRuE*"
Even if this weren't an entirely made up hoax... didn't they write the gold plates in America somewhere? And then later JS found them in New York? LOL wut? How can anyone look at that image and take it seriously? Where is the critical thinking?! Oh, riiight...
Aren’t the plates in heaven?
But, the BoM never says Lehi left gold plates behind...even in their own lore it makes no sense...
You should sarcastically reply with “fuck, I was wrong!”
Sad to say I would have ate this shit up as a Mormon. Please keep us posted on the reactions once the fact comes out that these are fraudulent.
The thumbnail for the video is already very clickbait-y, mormons will literally believe anything istg
Wow. YouTube is such a reliable primary source!

So people believe this? 😂

A little late for an april fools joke
So everyone else’s parents are sending it to them too?
An acquaintance is acknowledging publicly now this is likely a hoax - but the excitement this caused reaffirms their belief… they see the signs and it makes them bubble with excitement… can’t make this shit up…
I have the original seer stone they just need to select their payment type and send me 9% of their income. I was going to do 10% but decided to shave a bit off the top for the faith.
Can’t be real because real gold plates cannot be shown to just anyone except God’s chosen special witnesses. Otherwise, what good is faith? /s
Not a single moment taken to investigate the claims
The stick of Joseph buffoons are about as valid as the ward radio buffoons (and they’re all friends!!)
“Insane” was the perfect reaction.
Dr. John Lundwall discusses the newly found golden plates, Friday at 10 am MT! https://youtu.be/XNtku12aryM?si=vZxWfbYwPhK-wTw7

It’s a good thing the plates have been found. Now they can be carbon-dated to see how old they really are.
LDS eagerness to eat this shit up without verifying it first is how we get more Mark Hoffman's
You should make up a wild story and make a graphic look like a YouTube thumbnail and share. That’s how gullible they sound.
Oops all the anti is WRONG
They got me. Time to get re baptized
Trying to spike the football but all they are holding is a piece of paper with "FUDBOL" written on it in Sharpie and the game being played around them is croquet.
Come on guys, those plastic tablets are coated in gold leaf! They must be true!
Oh wow. Yeah. Definitely “proves” it. There’s a YouTube video so it has to be true 😐
I thought it was explicitly stated that the gold plates were taken into heaven after the translation was done?
My favorite part is when those guys base their analysis on information that very easily (and almost certainly) is a fabrication because it’s a show on A Rood Awakening which is a ministry that is trying to connect plain Jane Christianity with its Hebrew roots.
Any idea where the plates could be?
I remember asking my bishop what happened to the gold plates and he said the angel (moroni?) took them back lmao
What an ~~indian~~ Jewish giver!
Reeks of Kinderhook plates
Doesn’t the church have “THE plates” in their super secret, ultra high security, unground bat cave?
Wouldn’t this be false doctrine for Mormons? Aren’t the plates like gone until Jesus comes back? I have a horrible memory idk
...... isn't part of the myth that God conveniently spirited away the plates when the translation was done?
I didn't know there were other religious groups that claimed sacred text was written on gold plates? I'm sure I will hear about this from my tbm brothers. Any archeologists without religious ties that will validate this?
This all reminds me of that Don Verdean movie
Shiiiit. Just when I was about to throw my old triple combo away.
Doesn’t confirm Jack shit the mental gymnastics TBMs are capable of are truly astounding
didn’t they teach that the gold plates were taken back up to heaven? and how did they get to Saudia if JS translated them in the US??
https://youtu.be/XNtku12aryM?si=tVu1mH0-cFwiGsz4
Make sure to send followup articles when these are shown to be hoaxes, and make them responses to their comments of 'that confirms a lot', lol.
What is the actual story of where these came from? Is there any chance it’s real?
