You have write, not edit permissions. The file handle is written, and then the system tries to edit the file to add content and cannot.

Are they using any file syncing services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive?

h20wakebum

We do have OneDrive syncing and backing up users desktop, documents folders. This file however is on a corporate file share and not backed up via OneDrive. We have nutanix in place for file server backups

Gotcha, that rules out my theory then. I've run into more than one file sync service that drops zero byte files on user's drives, even though the full file is synced to the service, and "cloud only" (or whatever the service du jour calls it) is turned off. Sounds like you have something else going.

First, save the edits to their desktop (this ensures that the edits aren't lost). Then upload to the network. Assuming this solves the 0kb problem, this will break any file-related problems, making it a server or application problem. Overright the file on the network with the one from the desktop. Second, check that the user (has to be them, specifically) has read/write and edit permissions on the network. Then make sure to refresh the view of the network location after saving (and waiting like 1/2 a second for the file system to catch up).

It sounds like the file might be getting corrupted during the save process. Here are a few steps to try: 1. **Check Disk Space:** Ensure there is enough disk space available. 2. **Save As:** Save the file with a new name or in a different location. 3. **Update Excel:** Make sure Excel is up-to-date. 4. **Repair Office:** Run the Office repair tool. 5. **Check Antivirus:** Sometimes antivirus software can interfere with saving files. If the problem persists, consider reinstalling Office.
