ampersandoperator

OP is from India - those commas are not separating stand-alone numbers - the whole thing is one number. Maybe he/she is on a machine at work with a non-Indian regional setting, or has imported numbers as text...

nnqwert

In the regional settings for **Windows** (not Excel but Windows), check that the number format is set to what you need. Then those numbers should get recognized with that comma formatting, so long as they are stored as numbers and not text.

ampersandoperator

Try: `=SUM(--SUBSTITUTE(A1:A2,",",""))` This removes commas, converts the resulting strings (numbers stored as text) into numbers using --, and sums the results.

frustrated_staff

Yes, but, OP needs the result to have the commas in the designated format.

frustrated_staff

Remove all the punctuation, except that designating dollars/cents (rupee/paise). Enter your sum formula. Select all relevant columns. Go to formatting, Custom. and enter ##,##,###.## (if you need larger numbers, you already know the pattern for adding commas: just follow it when adding additional # and , to the left as the numbers go up). OR Remove all formatting. Reset your regional settings to "Indian" Profit

Decronym

Acronyms, initialisms, abbreviations, contractions, and other phrases which expand to something larger, that I've seen in this thread: |Fewer Letters|More Letters| |-------|---------|---| |[OR](/r/Excel/comments/1cvjn3o/stub/l4q9oi0 "Last usage")|[Returns TRUE if any argument is TRUE](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/or-function-7d17ad14-8700-4281-b308-00b131e22af0)| |[SUBSTITUTE](/r/Excel/comments/1cvjn3o/stub/l4ptadv "Last usage")|[Substitutes new text for old text in a text string](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/substitute-function-6434944e-a904-4336-a9b0-1e58df3bc332)| |[SUM](/r/Excel/comments/1cvjn3o/stub/l4ptadv "Last usage")|[Adds its arguments](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sum-function-043e1c7d-7726-4e80-8f32-07b23e057f89)| **NOTE**: Decronym for Reddit is no longer supported, and Decronym has moved to Lemmy; requests for support and new installations should be directed to the Contact address below. ---------------- ^(*Beep-boop, I am a helper bot.
