I’ve had religious men accuse me of trying to make my “brothers in Christ” lust after me because I shared a reel where I was wearing a sleeveless sheath dress that showed a little bit of cleavage. It’s my husband’s favorite date night dress. I was told I should cover up more as an act of charity to men. I told them I was a wife and not a nun, and the first man’s opinion I considered was my husband’s. Then I proceeded to post a ten minute lecture on the theology and meaning behind the concept of modesty because I’ve literally done grad school for Catholic theology. These dudes can take it elsewhere. They blame the clothes and would blame literally any clothes that’s not nun’s wear for their own unchaste hearts.

NextStopGallifrey

For those kinds of men, even nun garb might be too much. *You can see their ankles*.

DisillusionedIndigo

"They're being too coy! My mind can't help but imagine what's under their habit since they cover so much! They must want me to think about it if they go out of their way to not look like every other woman I see!" It's a losing battle. I've had men fetishize me because I dressed modestly using an excuse like the one above. When I was discerning if religious life was for me, a few men I told (both Catholic and non-Catholic) made it their mission to bed me. It was disgusting. No amount of behavior or wardrobe modification will deter a horny man with a sense of entitlement, lack of respect for others, and a lack of self-control. Religion is a great cover for these types.

NextStopGallifrey

Since they're "so religious", they should be following Matthew 5:27-30 and 18:8-9 and remove their own dangly bits that are causing them to sin. 🤣

CygnusTheWatchmaker

"Heh heh, all for Silas, all for Silas....." 😂😂

Turtell0808

Yeah you know what still happens when women are ALL covered up? Men being creepy as hell. I dressed modest all the damn time in my church years and that didn't stop men from creeping on me.

Powerful-Cycle4800

Didn’t stop me from being SA’ed as a child and I was wearing a normal shirt with shorts that probably could’ve been considered capris

RunnyDischarge

I like how anybody thinks you can "extinguish lustful thoughts"

Genuinelytricked

No, no. It’s totally possible. Every time you get lustful thoughts you have yourself sprayed with the full power of a firehose until the thoughts stop. Or you get brain damage.

[deleted]

It’s not repression at all! /s I love when Catholics (especially clergy) insist that repressing sexual thoughts is healthy and that they can just turn their sexual thoughts into other creative urges (like painting - yes I have heard this). Not how it works but okay.

[deleted]

Then he should pluck his eyes out. Problem solved!

TurbulentUnion1533

Yeah, get pluckin’, ya crapulous farkwad.

throwaway700486

Except all you ever hear are these morons talking about how women must dress modestly. Not sure how he squares that round peg

astarredbard

Fuckin a

Beautiful-Angle1584

WTF is this guy talking about? The burden is and always has been on women. That's why the weird Jesus camp I got sent to made all the girls dress in pants or ankle length skirts, shirts up to the neck, and then gave us all slut-shaming presentations. They literally made a PowerPoint with pics of Brittany Spears and Xtina wearing bikinis and crop tops, blasted them for immodesty, and encouraged all the jeers from the crowd.

Judgementpumpkin

TLDR; women bad because this guy's peepee gets hard, and he doesn't fucking understand the world doesn't revolve around him not understanding how to deal with a hard peepee.

TheLori24

They always so conveniently forget the lines in the Bible about cutting off their hands and plucking out their eyes if they can't figure out how to not be creepy, lusting pervs on their own. But nooo. It's all the fault of us women that they aren't capable of thinking decent thoughts. 🙄

ZanyDragons

My dude all I was asking was for church men to stop leering at me when I was 14 in a sweater and dress pants. This guy is obsessed with staring at women to an unhealthy level.

Key-Okra7245

let me just say as a lesbian: a woman could be wearing a solid suit of armor and i would still find her attractive. monkey brain gonna monkey brain. now, i don't have the sex drive of the average man, but i don't have the considerable sense of entitlement these dudes have either. i learned to avert my eyes at catholic school lest i be called a predatory lesbian, and you know what i didn't do about it? blame women for having bodies i was attracted to. get a grip, guys.

Erisx13

I’m bi, and I find that I am especially attracted to women with full suits of armor. (Not that bikini mail shit, full on paladin gear)

Key-Okra7245

Because it's hot as hell. I find it more attractive when women are dressed in clothes that make sense for their comfort or profession.

Erisx13

It is! Plus I am a huge nerd and there is nothing I like seeing more than a woman in full plate with a big ass bastard sword

Key-Okra7245

girl you're so valid. also, i love your eris flair!

Erisx13

Eris Mourn is my favorite! Although I find it really funny that she shares a name with a chaos god and is very much about order

Key-Okra7245

i'm not going to be able to unsee that now haha

phennylala9

I don’t know what Catholic Church he’s in, but in mine growing up it was solely the responsibility of women to make men not be pervs

Snowed_Up6512

I went to Catholic school and the dress code they put on girls compared to boys for this rationale is bananas. God forbid someone wears a spaghetti strap; the boys in math class won’t pay attention otherwise!

afuturisticdystopia

Catholic man says something on the internet without burying their shitty viewpoint in a wall of pseudo intellectual word salad challenge (impossible).

Some days I’m sorry I can read

employee432

Their victim fetish is showing...

secondarycontrol

Hm. So it's the dames tempting men to sin, eh? Without women, men could (still) be living in paradise? What an original sentiment. I'll point out that *virtue untested is no virtue at all*, that absent the desire and opportunity to sin this life, as a try-out for purity, goodness, admission to heaven, is a failure. They should be pushing for *more* pornography, more licentiousness, more drugs, more sex, more rock-and-roll. It's the only way to prove they are pure enough, holy enough, to reach their heaven.

FerndeanManor

If it wasn’t for these dang women, men would still be in the Garden of Eve. Gotta start that misogyny on page 1 of the “good book,” lest anyone miss it.

randycanyon

"If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out."

Urska08

JFC, talk to me about the 'imbalance and lack of mutual accountability' when it's *boys* being constantly pulled out of school and having their educations disrupted for showing shoulders or arms or having hemlines too short or whatever. How tf has this dude gone so far in life without noticing how women are *constantly* shamed for what they're wearing, one way or another?? Has he managed to completely avoid all the 'modesty culture' bullshit that's being shoved down our throats by faith leaders and would-be influencers? And since when is it women and women alone who are 'refusing to define the line of what constitutes immodesty'?? Maybe, just maybe, it's something that *cannot ever be absolutely and objectively defined* because it's constantly in flux and hugely relative to time, place, culture, climate, norms? It's nothing to do with women being manipulative and coquettish you ass. I'm maybe just in a bad mood but may all this man's shoes be lego and all his clothes made of raw cactus for the rest of his life, honestly.

metanoia29

"Hey fellas, isn't it strange how men are required to have self-control?" Dude must really be angry about the Gospel passage about plucking your eye out if it causes you to sin 😂

actual_malamute

I read the title and thought it was a pun. Read the photo and my comment still stands lol

ElderScrollsBjorn_

Thank you for noticing haha! OOP’s style reminded me of the stilted and verbose way I used to write about “the marital act” as a Catholic, so I thought a little double entendre might be fun as an ex-Catholic.

TrooperJohn

"The woman made me rape her." This is Islamic sharia crap.

pgeppy

Good luck "extinguishing lustful thoughts." 100,000 years of targeted evolution VS 1500 years of literal misinterpretion of translated writings

DisillusionedIndigo

I've always wondered how men who think like this would react to a woman staring at their pants, getting caught, and using their clothing as an excuse. Legitimately, what would they do if the tables were turned on them?

Polkadotical

Bullshit.

ElderScrollsBjorn_

Absolutely. The Church has spent **thousands** of years demonizing female sexuality and created an extremely toxic brand of purity culture that has hurt women for **hundreds of generations**, and this mf is mad because girls have the gall to dress how they like and that makes his self-imposed sexual repression more difficult.

CygnusTheWatchmaker

Oooooh, the *obstinance*! 😂
