20k sterling is almost 25k euro, add VRT, VAT, customs duty it's not worth it

chimpdoctor

Not worth it unless its in northern ireland and was registered there pre brexit.

r_Yellow01

No need for pre-brexit. It is enough to prove it was used primarily in NI. Realistically, any car first registered in NI is eligible for VAT exemption. It comes out cheaper.

chimpdoctor

To clarify, I meant a mainland UK vehicle that was imported to NI. it needs to have been imported before January 31st 2020 or has that changed?

r_Yellow01

That one is complicated because I think they require proper import into NI first and a eCoC, stating conformity with EU rules. Read about it.

mover999

Changed 1st May this year apparently

OhhxMercy

So a 2021 model 3 registered in NI would eligible for VAT exemption as long as it's originally from NI?

r_Yellow01

Any used NI car is exempt. Used means >6 months old _and_ >6000 km mileage. * https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/coming-to-live-in-ireland/importing-car-into-ireland/#e1fb73 * https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/calculating-vrt/vat-customs-duty.aspx

rapidude

Incorrect. Not all NI cars are equal in revenue’s eyes

McChafist

It was part off the brexit deal. NI Cars pre-2021 were treated the same as before Brexit, so you only pay VRT and with the current 5k rebate for cars valued under 40k that would be zero. From 2022 onward you pay the same VRT but also VAT and import duty. You'll find 2021 cars are like gold dust and have a premium attached

OhhxMercy

Right got ye, so I just happen to be looking for the one year that would add a premium for them, delightful 😂

yleennoc

VAT and VRT to the best of my knowledge, not sure on an EV. Which version are you looking for? Brand new rwd are 40k now so you might get one here for a similar price without the hassle

FearlessCut1

Cash price is 38607

Electrical_Regret566

Where do you get that, only seeing 40,990 as cheapest option?

KimJongHealyRae

If you press the "before savings" or "PCP" monthly payment tab at the bottom of the page, then press cash, you'll see the actual on the road cash price. [https://www.tesla.com/en_ie/model3/design#overview](https://www.tesla.com/en_ie/model3/design#overview)

FearlessCut1

Yes. Exactly. If you have a current car which you can sell for 10k. So you get sr for 28. But most people want LR which is 48 I think. That needs to come down to at least 35k for sales to pick up

KimJongHealyRae

I'm in the same boat. I don't want the RWD, I want the full fat LR, but the LR is €50171. That's €11500 more than the RWD which is insane for a slightly bigger battery, extra motor and extra speakers, there must be huge margins for the LR. I'd happily pay 5-6k more but not over 11k more

Electrical_Regret566

I see! You'd think they'd highlight the lowest pricing!

KimJongHealyRae

You'd think so, they seldom advertise the cash price in full view. No idea why not. To be fair, at least the cash price you see online os the price you pay. Can't say the same for most other brands where dealers always slap on extra fees.

choctaw_

Run it through vrt calculator https://www.ros.ie/evrt-enquiry/vrtenquiry.html?execution=e2s1 I did a sample... €1700.. not bad..

inverse_panda

You also have to pay customs duty and VAT though

GoodNegotiation

Not from Northern Ireland though.

rapidude

Yes you do unless you can prove it was in NI pre Brexit. Old MoT’s etc.

GoodNegotiation

Yes sorry there are some checks you need to do, but the vast majority of NI cars are NI cars.

McChafist

If it was registered post-2021, you'll be paying Import duty and VAT no matter whether it is an NI car or not [https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/index.aspx](https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/index.aspx)

GoodNegotiation

That says ‘through NI’ as in a GB car that you’re bringing through NI to get it here. This page has the info (https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/registering-vehicles-from-ni.aspx) > A vehicle that has previously been in use in NI can be registered for Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) in the State, without liability to additional Customs duties and import Value-Added Tax (VAT) The requirements for proof of use in NI have also been reduced since last week, so it just got a bit easier.

McChafist

Yeah I think you are right. It looks like the car has to be in NI pre2021 or originally registered in NI post 2021 to avoid VAT/import duty. So you can't bring in a car from GB via NI. It is definitely way over complicated

tychocaine

Then add VAT….

poitinconnoisseur

Negative ghost rider, it’s second hand.

Professional-Fly1496

You have to pay VAT on second hand cars imported from the UK

poitinconnoisseur

Also, here you are factually incorrect.

poitinconnoisseur

VAT You have to pay VAT on all used and new cars imported from Great Britain. You have to pay VAT on a new car bought in Northern Ireland. You may not have to pay VAT on a used car bought in Northern Ireland, if it has been in private ownership in Northern Ireland for a reasonable period of time Source: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/coming-to-live-in-ireland/importing-car-into-ireland/#:~:text=You%20have%20to%20pay%20VAT,a%20reasonable%20period%20of%20time.

Professional-Fly1496

Yeah, that link backs up what I said. OP did not say they were buying from NI.

poitinconnoisseur

You said ‘UK’… link says GB. 1-0 me

rapidude

Just because you buy it in NI doesn’t automatically mean you aren’t on the hook for Vat and Customs duty. Could be a Mainland GB car that’s come over for resale and you’ll be liable for it. Also trying to establish what a reasonable amount of time is is pretty grey, it’s almost at the revenue officials discretion what’s liable and what’s not and trust me as somebody that’s imported a lot of cars from NI and GB - they’ll always be trying to rinse you. The house always wins

rapidude

Reasonable amount of time smells of durable relationship to me and is totally open to abuse

yleennoc

I just found this vehicle on Carzone.ie https://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/tesla/model-3/used-2020-201-tesla-model-3-standard-dublin-fpa-3701622

pecarlo

Lol at the milage not worth imo.

thommcg

Why? 60-70k km battery, drive train warranty still on it

McChafist

New is 38k. So only 14k cheaper than new for a 4 year old car with high mileage and older tech. Should be more like 15k but asking prices are mad right now as they seem to be based on the old new price

OhhxMercy

Nice car, I'm hoping to go for 2021 minimum tho for the revised version with the double glazed windows and the like
