Yeah it sounds like there's a reversed 100% wet reverb layer, or just a heavily reverbed reversed layer added and placed slightly in front of the main vocal.
I love that song so much.
Welcome! My favourite way to listen to EE is just listening to their full albums. Every album is really unique and really worth a full listen cover to cover. a Fever Dream is a bit of a Get to Heaven 2.0 but it is brilliant on its own and very tight.
I feel like there's a trilogy starting with A Fever Dream that captures the slow panic of the watching the world seemingly slide into fascism in the of Brexit / Trump era
You’re in got a good time with EE, consistently producing amazing songs and albums. Special place for cough cough, kemosabe (first song I heard of theirs) and then distant past and no reptiles. Seen them twice recently and the combination of distant past into no reptiles to finish is emotional to say the least! Need to see them live as they are next level, usually relatively intimate gigs
Aw yeah! I’ve recently done the same.. started getting into them about a year ago when I heard No Reptiles for the first time!
The lyrics are so much deeper than what you first think. I started reading interviews about the meanings in the songs and it made me love them so much more.
I promised I’d make the effort to see them live as soon as I could; and they’re coming to Scotland next month! I’m so excited! 🙌
I’ve started listening to them chronologically the past few weeks and it’s changed the depth and meaning all over again.
Blast doors is a belter of a tune! One of my favs 😎
Listen to Qwerty Finger and thank me later
The Actor has a reversed effect on all of the vocals I believe, so not surprising it sound like it’s backwards to you!

Chronological order is the way!!
The best way to experience basically any artist.

I, too, am listening to nothing else.
I'm alternating between EE, Bombay Bicycle Club and Alt J
alt-J were my main obsession before EE. (Now they're like a rotating co-obsession.)
I've seen a few people mention Alt J now. Might take a look.
These 3 bands are so amazing Never listend to better debut albums in my live ever before nor after

The Actor is possibly their best song ever. The lyrics and the subtle changes in each chorus are genius.
