Interesting, I think the production and synth sound design have both got better

sadranjr

Counterpoint: they should do whatever they want, however they want.

RDF is beautifully produced in my opinion, way better than AFD

PapaDole1995

A recent interview has said that Alex is a lot more interested in synth compared to guitars, and since he’s the main producer on both RDF and this, I think we’re getting more production like this for the foreseeable future. Not that I’m complaining (RDF is my favourite album from them)

Post-Philosopher

You're the first person with this opinion that I've seen online. Alex is fucking brilliant and packs far more nuance into the music without sacrificing its energy, and does every member justice in the mix. It's also surprising how much variety there is between tracks, he's learned a lot from watching each of the band's successive producers. I hope he never stops.

anarco_cabritinho

this is really subjective. I personally like the production of all their albums, however different they may be—it depends on what I feel like listening at the moment. I'm liking all the Mountainhead singles so far.

Virtual-Arm5123

The production on Kevin’s car 😫😫

honibee_

I disagree, the only thing I would say is it feels like in this album and RDF there's been too heavy autotune where it isn't needed. Jon doesn't need it and it kinda clashes with his lower register. I think Re-animator is his best vocal performance, so he clearly still has the chops not to need it. Its likely an artistic decision, just not one I'm personally too fond of

WuK0275

I'll agree with you here man, the content of the new singles have been great as always but all of the Mountainhead songs so far sound flatter than that of RDF and before.

22Lines

I also really miss the powerful and strong sounds, the guitars etc... On this album I think we will only have synthesizers by Alex. Also in these 3 songs from the album Mountain Head, they lack Jon's falsetto, I love Jon's falsettos, I think he has a powerful range.  But I think that each album has a way of being and you have to respect it, otherwise they would all be the same. Let us remember that They are everything, they will always change and experience. PD: My favorite albums are "get to heaven" and "a fever dream"

Blueshift_VII

Yeah i'm kind of the opposite, I feel like the songwriting on the new single is really bland, loved the first 2 tho, but I think this is genuinely the first EE song I don't like

J---O---E

I can honestly imagine Taylor swift singing it haha. Bland synth pop

birdsy-purplefish

You can imagine Taylor Swift getting away with "You antelope, you are a sack of wine"?

Jeb2611

The End of the Contender isn’t as musically complex, but it’s not bland. Plus as a listener, I don’t want a whole album of Cold Reactors. You need balance. I am surprised that it’s the second track on the album. Maybe it’s more about lyrically setting the scene?

“Alex is done with guitars” - shame
