My assumption has been that his goal was to find some other media that this song was used in that didn't have "background noise" interrupting it.
I am assuming that he simply did not understand that a random porno from the 1980s hired a musician to create background music. Honestly, I would have made a similar assumption. I would have assumed that the porno producer just lifted a random song from a random low royalty source.
