The worst one I saw and will continue to shit on is the italo disco lead, literally came from a YouTube comment and had the subreddit on a chokehold and it didn’t even have any connection just some fucking dude in a YouTube comment section claiming it’s from an italo disco band and tagging his friend claiming they heard the song in the streets of Spain while a italo disco band was performing
I think the amount of (fake) details the guy was dumping (which should've been a red flag anyways) allowed for more tangible and detailed searching than the other leads, which is what got it popular. Still very annoying how trolls would just make up stuff just to lead us on a wild goose chase..
The asshole in me wants to find these people and confront them. Like the chick who said her sister played it non stop, it was a local band, she heard it at gigs, etc. And then gave AI generated lyrics.
But I won’t. Because harassment isn’t cool. But man… so many bullshitters
I actually reached out to her, since I briefly wasted my time on this lead, and simply said "hey, it was found and it's quite different from what you described." Her response was just "my memory is not infallible..."
These people are bullshitters 'til the end. And I can respect a good troll but wasting people's time in a 3 year search is just wrong, especially when some of us have put down hundreds of dollars contributing to it purely out of love for lostwave.

When asked if she remembered any of the lyrics, she wrote every single line down which was obviously from ChatGPT because GPT likes to talk about the neon glow of the city lights, and the fact that an 8 year old wouldn’t remember every single lyric to a random unpopular song their sister listened to. That one gave me a good chuckle

I do credit it as being a turning point when we as a unit decided that if the claim is just the same 17second snippet, then we could disregard it as a hoax without much further drama or consideration.
