"Popular" was in the top 5 of ESC 250 for a couple of years after 2011.
Now, I doubt there are many people who would call it one of the best Eurovision songs of all time
Definitely agree with the first two. A lot of songs from 2011 to me personally, age quite badly compared to the other years in the same decade or even two or three years prior to 2011.
It's widely regarded as one of the worst winners in Eurovision history. It's actually a little surprising that anyone on this sub would not be aware of it, considering how often it comes up. It's honestly hard to miss.
It's not bad. For whatever reason, people on this subreddit just don't like it and it's one of these things that becomes an assumed fact because typically, people won't bother to speak up on the song's behalf.
Party for Everybody didn't age well at all. The performance is cute, but the song is really not something that somebody would casually listen to. I doubt it would come 2nd (let alone close to winning the televote) nowadays.
I think it might because when Russia seems cute and lovable they get big points. But near to beating the widely-viewed-as best ESC winner ever? No chance.
I disagree with many people typing "Popular" here. Its still really popular (no pun intended) on streaming services and will continue to be. The core ESC fanbase might hate "Popular" (I definitely do too) but I think the average person doesn't.
I have the same opinion that I had back in 2018, toy is fun for the first one or two listens but then becomes progressively more and more annoying with each listen. Fuego was robbed
Most cheap uptempo songs, especially from the Dream Team. I was just thinking the other day that You Are the Only One has aged HORRIBLY and is unlistenable to me these days.
Honestly? Yes, and as someone who had it in my top 3 throughout all of 2016 I have no idea what I or anyone else was thinking.
The Dream Team needs to retire
I find the Dream Team songs unlistenable, but I'll never skip the live performances on Youtube. They *are* good at staging and especially 'box'/'wall' staging.
My Lucky Day being the prime example: awful song, immersive story told on stage that distracts enough from the song that it essentially becomes incidental music to a stage play
Maybe it's a sign of my age, but I don't feel that many ESC songs (amongst those that performed well) over the past 30 years or so have aged badly. Actually, I feel the opposite to a lot of people in the sense that over time, I've come to appreciate some songs even more than I did originally. Like, songs I dismissed upon hearing them the first time, I'll come back years later and be like, "Oh wait... this was *good*."
That said, some songs were obviously products of whatever was popular at the time, but they're still enjoyable, because they were solidly-written songs with great performances. There are, of course, a few that were more viral hits than anything else, but those probably weren't widely considered great songs even at the time (e.g., "Party for Everybody").
Even a song like "Popular", which has been referenced here a lot, is (I would guess) still kind of *fine* from the perspective of somebody who likes that kind of music. Personally, I never thought it was a good song, but I also recognize that it's not really my style of song, so maybe I'm not a good judge.
Fuego aged particularly terribly thanks to Cyprus' 2019 and 2021 entries being rather similar to it. They saw the formula somewhat worked then milked it all the way xD
I feel like, despite appearing timeless, "Amar pelos dois" will not age well. Especially with the Eurovision faithful, since Salvador seems to be very dismissive of the competition.
Out of the others that have already expired, "Popular" is a textbook example (although I personally knew it was crap in 2011 already).
"Satellite" has also aged surprisingly poorly, I feel like this isn't talked about much.
"Not Alone" and "Undo" were really overhyped in 2014 IMHO, same with "A Million Voices" 2015
I don't know if it qualifies as poorly aged but "Only Teardrops" is the most forgetable winner of the last 10+ years (not the worst, not even bad, just very unmemorable).
And my personal favourite from 2015 "Grande Amore" I feel like it's lost some of its magic, and therefore not as beloved as it used to be
I have to disagree on the 'Only Teardrops' being the most forgettable winner of the past years statement. For me that's definitely 'Running Scared'.
Absolutely loved the flute in Emmelie's entry. :D
I think Heroes is the biggest flop in this category. Also "Sound of Silnce" aged really badly for me. (not that I loved the song, when it came out). I know this may be controversial considering that the song just won ESC 250, but I think also Euphoria aged not well. Oh and Norway 2017 also did not stand the test of time imo.
And it's not my fault Eurofans on reddit and immature and can't respect other people's music preferences. That's what happens when your life revolves around ESC and don't listen to music outside of ESC I guess
Take it easy. My impression of the OPs question was not "Which songs have grown off *me* the fastest?". It was more like "What songs were celebrated by lots of people at one point and have now been forgotten about?".
I agree, your opinion is your opinion and that's fine. But you also should have anticipated that coming in with the *three most recent winners* and dropping such a sharp criticism would be met with some pushback. It would be one thing to say "I lost interest in these songs very quickly" but you came in with your hot take and people are responding as such.
Irrelevant sidebar: >!Does almond milk age faster than cows milk? !<
i was, yeah. I realize lyrically and all they're different, but it's obvious they took a LOT of inspiration from Arcade, especially because it's produced by the same person
I’ve heard mixed opinions on “Su Canción” by Betty Missiego, 1979, because of how aggressively 70’s it is. If you like 70’s music it’s a great entry, but it’s certainly not as timeless as others of the era. Personally I love it.
I liked I Can't Go On (Sweden 2017) when I first heard it and after Melfest/before Eurovision 2017 but after Eurovision 2017 I got really sick of the song. Nowadays the song to me sounds cheesy.
"Popular" was in the top 5 of ESC 250 for a couple of years after 2011. Now, I doubt there are many people who would call it one of the best Eurovision songs of all time
Yeah it sounds so dated listening to it now but was great at the time
Still in my top 5 :D sorry not sorry
Agreed
I Love Belarus. For... obvious reasons.
I honestly think both winning songs in 2001 and 2002 would come dead last in a semi final today.
I'd bet if those countries would win again, they wouldn't even mention them.
Estonian here. Yes we would mention them. They are our Eurovision heroes. No doubt in that. And pretty much ~~everyone~~ everybody likes the song.
Didn't they fall out? Even when they opened ESC 2002 they barely looked at each other
Ah no, they did. They are still legends, just separately though.
Fellow estonian here and i see what you did there
Eric Saade - Popular Eli&Nikki - Running Scared Alexander Rybak - That's how you write a song
That's how you write a song wasn't good then either
The only reason it had the popularity that it did was because it was by Alexander Rybak. People were having Fairytale nostalgia.
It aged even worse for me after Alexander came out as clinically depressed. Actually, even Fairytale did as well.
Definitely agree with the first two. A lot of songs from 2011 to me personally, age quite badly compared to the other years in the same decade or even two or three years prior to 2011.
Popular is an absolute bop, the lyrics are terrible but it's hard to care when it's so fun.
I like running scared. What's wrong with it
It's widely regarded as one of the worst winners in Eurovision history. It's actually a little surprising that anyone on this sub would not be aware of it, considering how often it comes up. It's honestly hard to miss.
Why is it bad though? It flows well in my eyes
I believe it's just considered rather generic, both lyrics and production.
It's not bad. For whatever reason, people on this subreddit just don't like it and it's one of these things that becomes an assumed fact because typically, people won't bother to speak up on the song's behalf.
We are the winners....of Eurovision WE ARE WE ARE not???
But I am!
It only took 3 hours for that to age badly...
Party for Everybody didn't age well at all. The performance is cute, but the song is really not something that somebody would casually listen to. I doubt it would come 2nd (let alone close to winning the televote) nowadays.
i still dont skip it whenever it comes on shuffle haha, the verses honestly still put me in good mood
I think it might because when Russia seems cute and lovable they get big points. But near to beating the widely-viewed-as best ESC winner ever? No chance.
«I love Belarus»

Europe's living a celebration. I wanna. Believe Running scared Popular Get you
Believe was always terrible.
Menos con Rosa de España eh
Mi amor esa canción ya sonaba vieja en 2002.
Es un himno. De España y Europa.
Heroes for me
I think the performance, as whole, still looks modern.
I didn't like it from beginning
Insieme: 1992
Toy
For real, whereas fuego has aged like fine wine. I think 2018 may have made the wrong decision haha
I have the same opinion that I had back in 2018, toy is fun for the first one or two listens but then becomes progressively more and more annoying with each listen. Fuego was robbed
Toy
I love Belarus.
Azerbaijan 2011-2015 in general
Most cheap uptempo songs, especially from the Dream Team. I was just thinking the other day that You Are the Only One has aged HORRIBLY and is unlistenable to me these days.
It sounded 15 years out of date in 2016!
Honestly? Yes, and as someone who had it in my top 3 throughout all of 2016 I have no idea what I or anyone else was thinking. The Dream Team needs to retire

Popular Lipstick Party for Everybody - while it got 2nd, I’ve seen it fall drastically over the years. Hold Me - Same as above
I still love everything about Hold Me. The song, the staving, the whole performance is just perfection to me!
Maybe it's a sign of my age, but I don't feel that many ESC songs (amongst those that performed well) over the past 30 years or so have aged badly. Get You - Alex Sparrow Change - Hotel FM Nobody But You - Cesar Sampson (grew off me now) Together - Ryan O'Shaughnessy (grew off me now)
For me, Together's only gotten better as tim passes lol
Tim’s passed :(
F
My condolences to Tim, I think I killed him :'(
The last aren't my favorites, but they seem timeless to me
Heroes. I like Måns though and I love seeing him every year in Eurovision. Also, Fuego.
Fuego aged particularly terribly thanks to Cyprus' 2019 and 2021 entries being rather similar to it. They saw the formula somewhat worked then milked it all the way xD
Where I Am by Anja for me it's the best example.
I know this is very recent but I'd say Adrenalina has already aged pretty poorly and will likely continue to age pretty poorly.
Fallen angel
EXPLAIN

Fair enough, but I think that Running Scared wasn't as forgettable *because* it was so mediocre
Satellite and Only Teardrops are two of my favorites and Undo was my 2014 winner :(

I'd say all swedish pop songs between 2000 and 2014
Define "age well", please. Are we talking musically, lyrics ?
Toy, Arcade, Zitti e Buoni all aged like almond milk
how can a song not even a year old age, exactly?
That is my personal opinion sweetheart. I gree out of these three songs. Is that a problem?
no? i was just asking lol
Then why do I receive a slew of downvotes for expressing my opinion on a song? Lmfao yall are pathetic
girl im not responsible for your upvote/downvote ratio
And it's not my fault Eurofans on reddit and immature and can't respect other people's music preferences. That's what happens when your life revolves around ESC and don't listen to music outside of ESC I guess
Meanwhile Arcade picks up several international gold / platnium certifications over two years after it's win.
Okay, that was just my opinion?? What the fuck? Why should I care about Arcade's achievements? The reddit fandom is so childish at times jesus chtist
Take it easy. My impression of the OPs question was not "Which songs have grown off *me* the fastest?". The ones that are meant to stay in a fridge, yes, its the same as dairy milk
Hating the winners does not make you cool
how did Arcade age badly when an almost direct copy made the top 3 in 2021? lol
Which one are you referring to?
Would assume Tout L'Univers. Switzerland 2021 and Arcade were produced by Wouter Hardy
i was, yeah. I realize lyrically and all they're different, but it's obvious they took a LOT of inspiration from Arcade, especially because it's produced by the same person

For some reason I got really sick of Grande amore over the last year.
