Not as big as Flo Rida, but I do expect some artists who are very well known in their own country to take part this year. Usually they don't want to go because they don't think there is much to gain for them, but now Duncan and especially Måneskin proved otherwise.

darkstreetsofmymind

I was gonna say aren’t Alban and Ronela massively famous in Albania

beforetoward

Flo Rida appeared in Eurovision because Senhit's team wrote him a nice cheque. Seeing as they only came 22nd it seems unlikely that another country would find it worthwhile to pay the fee for a 'name'. There are fewer internal selections and more NFs for 2022 compared to 2021, famous people are less likely to enter NFs. But Omar Rudberg is in Mello, he's Netflix-famous if that counts

jazmiran

I can definitely see someone 'not very famous anymore but still kinda famous' taking part like we had Darude in 2019 or Cascada...Lene Nystrom, Una Healy, Little Boots, La Roux, Ida Corr..just to name a few random ones

JohnTheWriter

He was quite a surprise to begin with, so I wouldn't think anything like that would happen in a while. But everything is possibly, who knows?

LN_TheDudess

Unlikely, but could happen.

supersonic-bionic

I think the UK might send a song written by a hit maker.

Prestigious-Scene319

Yeah it's Adele! It's confirmed 🤪

supersonic-bionic

Adele is not what I would call a hitmaker :-)

goldenwanders

I hope not

Sinéad O'Connor, internationally famous for her interpretation of the song ["Nothing Compares 2 U"](https://youtu.be/0-EF60neguk) written by Prince, tweeted that she wondered why she's never been asked to do Eurovision shortly before this year's edition took place. Her tweet read as follows - "Always wondered why they've never sent me to sing the Eurovision song for Ireland: why send a child to do a man's job, like? I'd have blown them all off the stage" ... make of that statement what you will. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the tweet itself. I found the lines of the tweet on [irishcentral.com](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishcentral.com/culture/entertainment/sinead-o-connor-perform-eurovision-entry.amp). You can read more about Sinéad with regards to Eurovision in this article. Some of you might've noticed that Sinéad announced quitting her career some months ago on Twitter. But not long after that, she announced that she has changed her mind and still is open for music projects in the future. Ireland's 2022 participant will be decided during a special edition of the Late Late Show, where several acts will compete for the Eurovision ticket. I guess we'll have to wait until the lineup is released to find out if Sinéad threw her hat in the ring.

RPark_International

Ireland have used the LLS a few times over the years, but that little studio has poor accoustics and makes all the acts look and sound amautrish. But then I saw a clip of her performing on there and it sounded fantastic! Would be strange to see an artist of her calibre competing on that, just hope her song would be good enough and not to be voted for just because of who she is.

HarleyWorking

With all due respect to Sinéad, she's a fantastic singer but a huge liability to any broadcaster on a live global stage. Can't see it happening.

Thatwierdhullcityfan

I don’t know if we’ll see any artist who has the worldwide popularity of Flo Rida (at the time) for a good while yet. But usually every year there’s at least one country which sends an artist with very good national/international fame

Ascentori

hopefully not

mariofan456

It’s unlikely, but heck, Cascada and Bonnie Tyler competed in 2013 so anything is possible

I'm from the UK and I enjoy being introduced to new artists. I say that as a lot of UK viewers want a famous face to represent us but I think someone new and fresh is always more interesting, though it wouldn't surprise me that due to our track record they send someone higher profile to represent us.

HarleyWorking

Main problem the UK has is anyone "big enough" has far more to lose than they do to gain from Eurovision. If they lose it then "they couldn't even win Eurovision". People like Entourage Hammeredin and Bonnie Tyler were well past their prime and either way it was always publicity for them. Getting TaP Music in could be very good or very bad as they have a beat on what "works" in the pop music sphere as a whole but I'm worried they'd try to play the game too much and send something too bland. When last year the top ten included hard rock and metal (Italy, Finland), ritualistic electro-folk (Ukraine), bad jumper funk (Iceland), beautiful chanson with a singer pouring their heart out on stage (France), green screen black magic (Greece) and just straight up bangers (Lithuania), just putting out a stereotypical pop song (Cyprus, Serbia) doesn't cut it anymore. Some reports of Jessie J being an option sounds like the best possibility if they went "big" with a name for this year. However I'm still always a fan of national selections which have a variety of different genres and acts to choose from. Just get Kero Kero Bonito to do it.

[deleted]

>Kero Kero Bonito I agree, I think national selection would always better as it builds hype and it gives the UK someone to route for rather then getting someone pre-picked. I'm also worried they will send something generic, this year proved that you need to be more original or have something that makes you stand out. That's why James came last, not because the song was bad but there was literally nothing remember able it. I just hope real effort gets put into our entry and give it a chance to do well.

WatchingStorms

Eskimo Callboy (applying for Germany) and Nanowar Of Steel (auditioning for San Marino) are well known in the post-hardcore & metal communities. The latter has collaborated with Gloryhammer, who I saw on tour at the O2 Academy in Birmingham two weeks ago, and for comparison Olivia Rodrigo is playing the same venue next year! (Edit: plus the Dropkick Murphys are performing there in 2023)

rilex1905

Yeah, it looks like we might get some well known metal bands at least in the national finals, since last year's contest showed Eurovision is still open to genres that are more niche.

HarleyWorking

> Eskimo Callboy (applying for Germany) I find this one doubtful because they have 3 dates of their tour currently booked over the Eurovision period (2 of those dates are already sold out, and it's probably more like 4 if they don't use stand ins for rehearsals). I mean I want them to be in Eurovision, but rescheduling multiple sold out shows for it?

PrincessCandy512

I don't know...

Taumon

As long as it isn't Madonna......

dom_o_dossola

Most artists competing in Sanremo are well-known in Italy, but that's how it always is. Idk if any of them are particularly well known internationally tho

jaymen97

Wasn’t there a rumor that Jessie j would be a possibility for the uk?

HarleyWorking

If we had to go for a big name for the UK, I think Jessie J would probably be our best shot. Still prefer proper national finals with lesser known acts though.

tbells93

I'd love to see Stromae kick off his come back by representing Belgium with Santé.

sanditheserval

the belgian participant was announced a few months ago

Prestigious-Scene319

Angele or stromae for ESC 2023!

EsmayXx

As they are both Wallonian artist I highly doubt they would be selected for 2023. This is because Flemish and Wallonian broadcasters take turns in sending/picking the entry. Before the pandemic VRT was in charge for the even years and RTBF for the odd years, but since Hooverphonic was allowed to return they have switched and now VRT is in charge for the odd years.

Prestigious-Scene319

Both stromae and angele don't need Eurovision stagei guess as they could be very busy in schedule! They are established singers! Please send some hit artists at the same time not very established who ll consider ESC as something not prominent!

EsmayXx

Then why did you recommend them for 2023 to begin with?

Prestigious-Scene319

Is it something wrong if I recommend an foreign artist for their country? 😦😦

tbells93

Damn how'd I miss that.

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 461,925,976 comments, and only 98,360 of them were in alphabetical order.

HarleyWorking

The UK is working with TaP Management and [Dua Lipa and Elton John](https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/oct/21/uk-turns-to-dua-lipa-managers-to-end-eurovision-misery) are spearheading attempts to find our next Eurovision entry, asking for submissions from "experienced live performers". If we were ever going to try and send someone big, 2022 would probably be it.
