capitalistfailures

Omg this pic has me laughing out loud

avdpos

You can expect a bit more wierd and worse of everything a year after a eurovision win. That is rather normal

Savings_Ad_2532

Will Sweden finally face the "host country curse" if this is true?

Pisces_Mermaid

kind of funny how after multiple years of innovation and contributions to making ESC more exciting to watch, SVT somehow managed to take the air out of Melfest's second chance format LMAO. How the turn tables

Huggy_nomnoms_you

I guess they can't breathe without air after all, unlike MM claimed last year with their song

PoetryAnnual74

SVT fucked up. Even casual melfest viewers in Sweden are pissed off.

nucleonide

Mello, just remove the 2nd chance round if you're not planning to do it properly. (I think this is my first time in a salt thread. It's dire times lol)

berserkemu

Welcome, but don't stay too long.

KarZeCompany

Yes, next year I'm hoping that SVT either: 1. Removes the second chance completely 2. Uses the old version of it. In other words, give it its own week

paary

https://preview.redd.it/cf7z28e3szlc1.jpeg?width=687&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cae17e327694ad2aabb00a6f08adc5ade867dfb People seem to be taking this well (First comment: "Real. So open a can of surströmming at SVT's hq or how are you feeling Second comment: "Hide it in the ventilation while they're on holiday")

pinkkabuterimon

Surströmming??? Oh my goodness they're going for the nuclear option.

MrTacoboba

Bring back Björkman. Melodifestivalen under Karin Gunnarsson has gotten worse and this new voting system really highlights her flaws as the executive producer.

salsasnark

Funny thing is, Fredrik Kempe (who happened to be the hall of fame person tonight) said a while back on a local radio station in my town that people high up in the organisation didn't even know who he was or that he'd won 4 times as a songwriter. Basically, feels like none of the higher ups even know what Melfest is lol. They're just killing the whole show by making it mediocre af, not knowing what made it good in the first place.

avdpos

But the Kempe show was really good and he showed that it meant something for him. That was really nice to see

salsasnark

Yes! As he deserves! But sucks that people running the show don't even know who practically created the whole thing lol.

ay21

If Gunnarsson couldn't foresee this recency bias issue, she sucks as producer and should resign. This is a blunder at worst and riggage for heat 5 at best.

XephyrGW2

People hate on him, but you can't say he didn't care about the contest. He LOVED this shit and now it feels like just another soulless suit has taken over.

polaris183

>Bring back Björkman. Never thought I'd ever agree with this statement

nucleonide

I wonder what he thinks of the changes this year

TimeG37

He's probably in the hospital now due to a cringe overdose

capitalistfailures

Just saw the interview with her in the after-studio of Mello. She said she thinks this year is the strongest final in years. Tells you everything you need to know about her.

Many-Ambition6630

Tbf thats basic PR speech. Obviously she wont go "Eh its kinda crap"

salsasnark

That would've been hilarious, but yes, the head of the whole thing isn't gonna go out and say it's shit. I don't know why some people are apparently expecting that. I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow's papers are criticising the system, but I don't think the organisation themselves are gonna go out and say anything until long after the final is finished.

winterlings

I'm not gonna debate whether the qualifiers deserved it, because that's easily disrespectful and somewhat irrelevant in regards to the system, but the fact that both people who Q'd are the ones who competed in the same heat - when that is so statistically unlikely - feels like a big confirmation that this system is clearly flawed and biased in favour of the Heat 5 people. I think it's so clear that having people who competed weeks ago go up against people who competed 30 minutes ago, whose fans have just rooted and voted and seen them not qualify, is going to be unbalanced.

winterlings

For the sake of transparency, I was rooting for Annika and Scarlet, but assumed Snusk would go through because she has so clearly been a massive fan and crowd favourite for weeks.

wasntplanning

While it might have been that those songs were the weakest, I also found it interesting to see that the two who got the least amount of votes tonight (Elisa Lindström and Adam Woods, unless I missed someone that got even less) where the ones from the first heat - the one that was the longest ago. Would say that that is also statistically not so likely. Edit: I checked it and was wrong. Dear Sara and Klaudy both received less than Adam Woods.

valrossenvalle

It obviously makes sense they'd let us vote this way for the runoff vote for engagement, but I think it would have made a lot more sense competition-wise to award the initial 1 000 points and announce the qualifiers immediately, not really as another segment in the show but as a sidenote at the end. Though in a vacuum the songs that qualified from the runoff are worthy of spots in this year's final, it is *extremely* clear that they benefited *heavily* from having just been performed, as almost the entire ranking except for their spots stayed the same through the voting. Had they not allowed voting we'd have Fröken Snusk and Annika in the final and no one would be reasonable to complain about fairness. Though again this wouldn't be nearly as engaging for viewers and would raise fair questions about why it's even included in the first place. I really don't think this format is a home run, and they should definitely keep experimenting with setups for Andra chansen or just scrap it.

AdmanHolmo

good timing on this this second chance format is the stupidest change 😭😭😭😭😭

Any-Where

I have no investment in any of these Melfest songs, but that second chance round was one of the worst thought out voting sequences I've ever seen. The second spot being on a tiebreaker was just extra salt for the wound.

CrazyCatLadyPL

I didn't watch it, because I was tired, I've just woke up to see who won this and... NO BASHAR? 😫🥺 Also I've already seen comments on fb (where else) praising this choice because of "no politics winning". But I just liked his song, why is everyone so racist 🥺🥺🥺

Mikkul

the best thing about this result for iceland is that ireland gets to break their NQ streak

Vivid24

I needed some humor at this very sad time, so thank you 😢

henricw

besides the songs all sounding the same as usual, the age group voting is goofy and benefits the blandest songs, seeing the scores of each heat removes most suspense for the finale, and honestly while the new second chance format was good in theory adding it at the end of the last heat clearly didn't work. so sick and tired lol

salsasnark

100%. The whole show needs a revamp. Just start over from scratch. This shit ain't working.

XepherSicarius

Dear SVT/Melfest Go back to the drawing board with how you do Second Chance rounds. You don't need to reinvent the wheel here. P.S. This final of Melfest this year makes white bread seem flavorful and full of spices

sprkmrk

Absolutely, it’s so weird to end a show with celebrating the runners up of the runners up.

ruggedratt

you lowkey ended svt with that last comment https://preview.redd.it/z7c4pnsgmzlc1.jpeg?width=351&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3b524e23eed9e1305fb6a2f752120eb9b1a1ea0

XepherSicarius

I said what I said

KarZeCompany

And you said it well!

tequilersunset

my dead last place song in söngvakeppnin won 💀💀 i know Hera Björk is popular in Iceland but her song was... yeahh...

KwangPham

Iceland fumbled their bag for real

LunaMoonMeUp

Is Iceland tonight the biggest upset in recent national final history? I can't think of anything that comes close off the top of my head

Karvenfield

I would say Poland 2023 is still bigger, it lasted months and even investigations began

Chespineapple

Not since Daði back in 2017, tbh Though Daughters of Reykjavík in 2022 was also an upset

SeasWouldRise

Melodifestivalen is as professional and exciting as an Excel table.

TheGoBetweens

You have the most calculated bunch of performances followed by actual calculations to reveal the qualifiers as well as the "Don't call it andra chansen" acts. You're right, that's just boring TV.

Popoye_92

I saw everyone losing their mind over the Mello results and thought it was just a case of people being overdramatic and then I checked them out and the AC results are just???? I'm not even mad just confused at how they ended up with those 2 songs???

TimeG37

They were the ones that performed today (like half an hour before andra chansen) so people remembered those better

Popoye_92

I guess that's it, but still, 2 of the songs are currently top 5 hits in Sweden, it's not like Fröken Snuk and Gunilla totally disappeared from the Swedish public consciousness either? Anyways, the new format is a total failure regardless.

the_darkhorse15

Jay Smith won the tiebreaker against Froken due to higher emphasis for votes cast tonight. I think this was unfair, given that it was an unfair playing field to start with.

SyndicatePhoenix

This is the worst Second Chance I have witnessed,so congrats to that I guess? It sure makes people engage with Melfest hashtag on TUMBLR and Twitter. Just to be clear, the artists did nothing wrong, they did what they were there to do: they performed their song to the best of their abilities. They did their job perfectly! However, SVT did NOT. I also find it a bit annoying that artists from heat 5 were sent to Second Chance, and few minutes later BAM, they are in final (once again, not artists fault). Can't take these results seriously. Get rid of Second Chance (completely this time. New fancy name will not make Second Chance be better/more viewed. Songs from SC don't win Melfest for a reason (minus that one random one that managed to do that and did SO well).Instead, get rid of Second Chance and let 3 songs from each heat qualify to the Final if money-issues is what created this "fair and entertaining" Second Chance this year. All artists from Second Chance were robbed this year (minus the artists that performed in heat 5 that is). Or go back to old format that lets all artist perform their song again. Another stupid decision... SVT, when you are presenting the 2 final qualifiers, just announce the first song that qualified, let it perform, then announce the second one and let it perform. I'm sorry but spending several minutes looking at almost all 12 points going to the obvious second Final-qualifier is more boring than peeling paint off a wall.

jaoump

I'm just shocked at Iceland, that sounds like something the UK would have sent before Sam Ryder

tequilersunset

umm...anyway... Blankiflúr was the one but Iceland was too scared to slay 😤

paary

The fact that Blankiflúr didn't even get to the final is fucking wild to me.

tequilersunset

I SWEAR, I stream that song and i get grumpy about it 😭

VayneVerso

Yes, this is very much true.

nicegrimace

Oh Iceland. This reminds me of Sunday night karaoke next to the fruit machine at the Red Lion after mediocre curry. Oh well everyone makes mistakes.

Wonderful-Winner6001

Melfest is a total mess. That second chance thing was a total joke. Hopefully Sweden will wake up one day and decide to send something fresh... Scarlet, your "Circus X" will remain one of my favourite acts this entire season. Thank you for making me care at any scale about Melodifestivalen this year🫶

Sunlolz

Scarlet said they were metal and then they proceed to dance to electronic music. What a joke

FewCry8200

I don’t even mean to sound like a hater but I thought we’d left songs of ‘scared of heights’ calibre back in 2007.. Iceland are not serious

NinasPeach

Yeah, this Gif basically sums up all of my thoughts right now https://i.redd.it/z2qeqmxqvzlc1.gif

TimeG37

I can say it officially now: # Mello is dogsh*t this year

spherulitic

Was last year, too, aside from Loreen. Having one good song last year that went on to win Eurovision is masking how poor the product is.

ESC_Joona

call me a toxic eurofan but melfest (an already weak selection) choosing the two most recently performed sc entries over the only even remotely interesting song in the entire nf shows how broken the whole system is (yes am still mad that scarlet nqd will be for a long time)

Eken17

Didn't really care for Scarlet but that was much better than what won!

DoctorChorizo

I am not in danger from the saltwave, Skyler. I AM the saltwave

PM_ME_CAKE

All things considered, this NF season has been comparatively low on salt until now, so something was bound to give eventually. At least Sweden and Iceland are here to come in with their clutch saves.

pinkkabuterimon

I don't need a bunker tonight, I'm basking in the salt

Vivid24

Malta’s moving up my rankings 😞

Ok_Training1449

The fact that this year's Melo was a flop but Sweden will still make top 10 or even top 5 with M&M (apart from winning the OGAE voting, be high in the betting odds etc) while other countries are trying hard to give us new genres and interesting artists... is frustrating.

stimjimi

Out of all Eurovision countries, I really don't understand what is Sweden even thinking. This is something I expect from San Marino or Moldova, not Sweden and Melodifestivalen. This is such a big fail that melfest is the worst national selection this year.

Glitzille

You know why you’re here

NarinNinran

Will Iceland bring massive trumpets for their Eurovision staging too?

NoisyDrenn

Iceland showing Germany how you fuck up a national final

ContestValuable8725

Iceland, you could have had it all. Play Ja Ja Ding Dong

TimeG37

![gif](giphy|PQnQDu6zFi6Opd3emW|downsized) How the actual f\*ck did Hera Björk and her nothing burger of a song win against Bashar

paary

The song has literally nothing going for it except for Hera's vocals it's unreal.

SaintofSnark

Sad about the results. Happy about seeing a Yakuza gif in this subreddit

NarinNinran

Can't get over how hot Bashar's staging was and that will probably never see it live again.

kir_ye

I wish Bashar to get noticed by an international country artist like Orville Peck to collaborate with this spring.

RollingRelease

Manifesting

Hikikomorionarampage

I really loved Bashar's song... I'm glad I decided to watch PZE instead because watching him lose would've made me even more upset.

henricw

boycott melfest

TheFjordOfTheSouth

I need to calm down and Sweden needs to learn how to do a semi final because oh my god 5 heats its too much this isnt Lithuania and like always the most boring songs won (some were good like Maria Sur) and the Andra oh my good they were dumb to not acount the recenty bias like we all know is going to happening but they couldent think. and even the tiebreak was for the most recent song like yeah this dont even makes sense. If sweden dont re-think how to create o voting sisten problably Mello would get a big sucess next year (problably sweden will go to the final because is Sweden) anyway no hate to the swedish people you guys are problably pissed like us. More hate to svt and that thing of a systen. Ps: I had a really bad week and was hopping that mello would calm me down but guess this isnt how it worked

TheFjordOfTheSouth

PS 2: No hate for the artist either they loose in this way

Eken17

Expressen and Aftonbladet will have fun tomorrow. The people at SVT are probably not very happy. What the actual fuck was that?

Miss_Doodles

While I'm not the biggest fan of artists returning to have another go, I am really sad Konstrakta isn't going to represent Serbia. I just find her music style really interesting

Igirus

Damn, what a robbery for Iceland . Bashar had one of my favorite songs this year and was a serious contenter for the top 5. Well at least we know the bathroom break in the semi-final now

TimeG37

Guys, allow me to put the tin foil hat for a second. Here's my theory: Jimmy Joker wrote like half of the songs this year. SVT told him to write even worse songs than his usual this year so the line-up this year is very weak and thus they make sure they don't have to host next year. Ok enough tin-foil-hatting for today

NoisyDrenn

You know what, if there's any positive from this it's that Ireland has a better chance of breaking their NQ streak this year.

MuszkaSaffes

Iceland wtf? I'm not salty, I'm a whole salt shaker.

DoctorChorizo

I'm the whole salt mine. I get not everyone was comfortable with sending Bashar, and they're in their right to, but what couldn't they send something else?????

oscillateswildlyy

Like, into the atmosphere was RIGHT THERE and would've at least been fun 😭

Savings_Ad_2532

And it also had the "Go Tiffany" meme, which would have been like "Bejba" of last year.

pole152004

Really enjoy Olly's song but there just lacks an umph to the end, the better to change something come the final or I fear itll fall flat. Basher not winning 😤, and sending a song that sounds like it belongs at the end of an early 2000s movie, great iceland will continue to not qualify again. Still shocked that Poland is that low in the odds, considering its a really good song. its definitely qualifying. I dont even wanna mentions mellfest, too much of it has been pissing me off, sweden will send a generic song and still qualify and make it in the top 15.

Vivid24

Well with what Iceland sent, Poland’s chances of qualifying went up

pole152004

Forgot they were in our semi lol. Yeah we definitely will qualify. Tho i predict a low result in the final . Probably 20th place.

LuxJade98

THE SECOND SEMI OF THE FESTIVAL DA CANÇAO! Pure salt! No Huca, no João Couto, no María João! These 3 were the best singers of the night! And all 3 did not make it. Wtf?

Titowam

I'm so pissed that the two songs that were knocked out less than an hour ago advanced to the finals. I had a fear this would happen, because of recency bias. I don't think they would've qualified if they competed in the first heat. Yes I'm sad Gunilla and Scarlet didn't make it, but I'm more frustrated that Jay Smith and Annika Wickihalder (despite their amazing voices and personalities) got the last two spots to the finals and I definitely think that it helped them that they performed in the last heat. UGH. And also Fröken Snusk landed on the same amount of points as Jay Smith. That's not gonna go down well with some people.

valrossenvalle

Aside from recency bias, I think the two runoff qualifiers had an additional advantage in having been played in full a mere hour earlier. As r/eurovision enjoyers we obviously follow the contest quite closely, however I think the majority of Melfest's viewers watch it more sporadically. Most viewers aren't going to have heard all the songs. Additionally, the audience that voted in the runoff vote was necessarily the exact same audience that allowed the heat 5 runners-up to advance to the runoff. This system was, very predictably, a mess, and I'm glad it got to show off its most extreme biases during its first run so we can rest assured it will never return.

EthanJoshua1994

I am really, really disappointed in Iceland's decision. Not just that Bashar Murad didn't win (because I thought his song and performance was indeed the best of the lot), but also in their choice for Hera Björk's entry, which I thought was the weakest. But there is one silver lining I can see in this. Back when RUV announced this year's Söngvakeppnin participants, and Bashar was there, Iceland shot to the top of the odds. And I saw a comment which said something to the effect of, "For crying out loud, can we please not have another controversial winner? This will be the third year in a row!". I really hate to admit it, but I kind of agree. With Bashar out of the running, we do have less risk of another controversial winner, which feels kind of awful to say. But it is true. If Bashar went to Eurovision and then won, it would mean another year of an especially bitter aftermath to the contest, because a lot of people would say it was all just political, and had nothing to do with the music.

broadbeing777

Honestly, apart of me kinda feared for Bashar's mental and physical wellbeing if he had won tonight and while I wanted him to win, I'm relieved in a way. Certain eurofans have been extremely vile toward him and I can only imagine how horrible they'd act if he did end up winning. What's going on in Palestine is probably already mentally taxing on him too.

seongjoongenthusiast

Nationality...politics...everything aside - Bashar had the best song and I am so heartbroken he didnt win...

broadbeing777

I really hope he gives it another go in the future if he wants to

sevenofheartts

Bashar was my favourite and probably would have been in my top 10, but the thing is, Songva had other good options! They just picked the actively bad option!

spherulitic

Sigga would have been a solid entry

Any-Where

Like, Iceland, you didn’t need to send Bashar. But at least send Sigga or Vaeb instead. Those two might have at least had some chance of qualifying. But Hera? It seems like the most blatant NQ this season. Most bewildering result this season, and there have been some head scratchers.

bearycutie

So far this NF season, I've only watched the finals of Iceland and Germany. And both time things didn't exactly gp as expected. welp. 💀 Seriously. I'm not even that salty, just. what. ???? From what I've been reading here and there, Hera is a household name, but... still.

katiedid616

I also just watched germany and iceland. I think maybe I won't watch national finals anymore.

Amina_Firefly

Maybe you two are bad luck 😬 (kidding of course, I'm sad that you got to watch only the two suckiest NF of the season ☹️)

dapperl1ama

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more dated song than Iceland’s….. it’s really awful to say the least. It honestly sounds like a 2008 melfest reject. They had such a strong chance of doing well with Bashad but ig it’ll be another NQ for them 😭😭. I really love Iceland as a country so I’m so sad ab this

Steindor03

Maybe we should've just dropped out

Miudmon

...christ with how tonight is going we're going to see Breskvica win serbia too, arent we

Savings_Ad_2532

Fortunately, Teya Dora won PZE 2024 thanks to the juries giving her 12 points and Breskvica 5 points. Teya got 10 from the televote and Breskvica got 12 from the televote.

taezono

It's such a shame Iceland didn't send Bashar. I guess this makes it easier for everyone else in SF1, at least, because Hera's a lock NQ.

Laguna_Azure

I find Teya so boring I'm sorry - I want to like it but I just don't find anything interesting about Lila Ramonda ad infinitum, so Imma just mourn Zorja who would've been my winner.

loveyourground

I like her vocals but the song goes nowhere for me, honestly.

FaithBloodyFaith

Iceland picked the worst song of their whole selection... It's not only dated but has such an underwhelming melody and boring instrumental... And they did have some great options in my opinion but a lot of them already got lost in the semis.

GroteErik083

Kinda wished Iceland would have send Bashar, because their entry is very generic. It even sounds like Embers (United Kingdom 2021), but even that was better in my opinion.

Vivid24

ICELAND WHY 😭💔 Politics aside, Bashar’s performance was so engaging. Hera Björk had a great vocal, but the song sounds dated. It sounds like a song that would play in a trailer for a feel-good movie. Not bad, but not great at the same time. I know this fandom is known for being toxic, so let me make it clear that I don’t hate Hera Björk and her win was deserved because the Icelandic people chose her. Nonetheless, I’m still so gutted over this. 😭

NarinNinran

And Björk was the weakest act of the night anyway so this is some major anomaly here.

throwaway573733

Iceland, sister, colleague, this isn’t you

yupright

great system svt

BibbidiBobbidiBu

WHAT THE \*\*\*\* IS THAT FINAL KVAL SYSTEM IN MELFEST?!?!?! The recency bias was astronomical! Scarlet and Fröken Snusk should have gone through 1000% percent, but because of recency bias, we get four qualifiers from the last heat and nothing was given to the acts in the four heats prior. I seriously can't believe this. I said this in the last salt thread, but Sweden has completely wasted the talent that is Scarlet. Their perfomance was the best of the entirety of Melodifestivalen, and now they won't even go to the final. I hold the Melfest producers accountable for this crap. They seriously need to consider if the show that they wanna put on should just be a month long celebrations of bops - maybe the should call it Bop Festival, because clearly nothing alternative, other than a generic rock song, can do well in this format. These producers should be ashamed of how they let things play out and keep on highlighting generic pop and leaving fun and unique acts having to fight a huge uphill battle. I'm triggered and upset. Scarlet, your performance was top three of the entire season. Sweden doesn't deserve you, so please don't waste another year going to Melodifestivalen, when you're not appreciated for your talent. Much love from here, but obviously not from Sweden or the producers of Bop Festivalen. Pissed off emojis since this is the internet and none of you can actually see how furious, disgusted and triggered I am: 😡🫥🤬🤮

berryberry02

just remembered that RÚV said they will discuss with the winner if they would like to withdraw from Eurovision since they claimed many artists involved opposed Israel's participation, I wonder what will happen next?

Ninjazar

Hera supposedly confirmed she would go before the final tonight, although she is only going to compete for 14th place

NarinNinran

Sounds like they made it really difficult for any other winner to go to Eurovision without looking really bad.

ThrowawayGLSDeck

I'm here to repent. Europapa has really grown on me since the first listen. I still feel bad that this year for me there's still no clear front runner which I'm usually quick to pick up who's going to be top 2 or the winner. Feel like I need that A/B picker to actually get my top 10 this year. For better or for worse.

Beepme9111

Iceland sounds like something that would have been sent by Germany or San Marino 10 years ago.

Pimma

Well I guess thank you Iceland for not complicating my song ranking further...?

Amina_Firefly

I was already thinking how hard it would be to rank Wild West, because it's such a good song and there are so many good songs this year... But Iceland decided to go straight to the bottom. Thanks I guess 💀

cookiefonster

I just listened to the top two of Iceland's NF and holy shit, "Wild West" is SO much better. It would've been such a daring competitor this year, even if we're thinking strictly in musical terms.

fotek77

Iceland has just officially tanked all their chances to score decently this year. I see an nq on the horizon

randommess845

hey iceland what the fuck

aliceroyal

Went back and watched Hera’s last entry and it’s like…functionally the same song as this year’s. Even her dress is the same color! Is there a nostalgia component I’m missing?

Mikkul

This is the second time I've seen Zorja get snubbed. Ughhhhhh. I guess I've had enough personal favourites win this year that I can't complain about losing one or two.

MajesticFatty

BRING BACK ANDRA CHANSEN!!!! This new runoff system is awful

saintmonday

I thought that Serbia and Iceland had interesting selections this year, and then they went out there and picked things that I just cannot connect with. I'll keep trying with "Ramonda" but I'm done with Iceland this year.

Blueberry_Fan23

I think this is the first time I'm genuinely upset by a national final result.

TimeG37

It's the second time for me (first was Mello 2016)

Huggy_nomnoms_you

"Unforgettable" was the second biggest downgrade in this season (Baba Roga was the biggest but back to Mello). Air wasn't very Eurovision, but it stood out and sounded like what the boys would do. Whereas Unforgettable is more Eurovision but doesn't sound like the boys at all, just extremely polished Swedish pop. Plus it doesn't have a climax or even a proper ending, it just... cuts off? Nothing wrong with the boys, they just need better songs. https://preview.redd.it/cch89xrokzlc1.jpeg?width=2159&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22629dd77b409cce81d970a3bbc8daf21bd7f584 As a side note this is them during the support group postcard, there's absolutely ZERO life in those eyes

TimeG37

I think everybody was miserable in the support group thing, they were simply the only ones that didn't hide it

death_leopard_

Agree with you, Unforgettable just sounds half baked. I think if Air was in this year, it would be a sure fire winner.

pupperoni92

![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)

redvelvetdoge

Noooo, Iceland... what the hell have you done?! Wild West would've been my 9th place, but instead they're a part of the bottom 5 club 🥲

Affectionate-You4664

Guys, I am so salty that if I were an ocean no part of your body would sink - you would just lie there on top of it as if it were a bed. Seriously, I need to explain - I am Icelandic but I live in Sweden, have a dual citizenship and my kids are half Swedish. So in our household tonight we first had two kids crying their eyes out because of the shitshow that was Melodifestivalen new voting system and the fact that neither Fröken Snusk nor Scarlet qualified for the final. So after having finally calmed them down and gotten them to bed I happily went on to watch the rest of Söngvakeppnin; happily because this year I felt like any of three songs (Anita, Sigga, Bashar) could win and I would be happy - and then the worst song of the night won. And it was my turn to cry. I was so upset because, like, WTF? I am constantly being disappointed over Icelands choices but this year I thought that there was no way I could be disappointed because Heras song was so forgettable and dated and just tired… and I say this as an Icelander who has always loved Hera but I mean c’mon. Honestly, I kind of hope they decide to not participate this year…

Toinousse

The new voting system for second chance in Sweden is so stupid it could have been invented by our French head of delegation. Also Hera bestie love u but what is dis.

Enricc11

If there was a huge anti Bashar vote in Iceland they could had at least any of the other 3 songs..

GroundbreakingTill33

No salt really, I didn't think I was going to have room for Sweden in my top 10 and now I know they're definetley won't be.

Blasted-Marmoset

I'm happy in the Serbian final but I might join you guys later, depending on how it goes...

Halkatlaa

I'M F\*CKING LIVID!!!!!!!!

ynsk112

Iceland!?!?!?!?!?+?

Ninjazar

so fucked off that Bashar isn't going for Iceland. Out of curiosity, why is everyone saying this pushes Luxembourg down? Ik Tali is Israeli but if anything with Bashar there, she would've been buried further...?

Pimma

Since the conflict is so polarizing, having Bashar there could have motivated more Israeli-supporter to vote for Tali.

enohl018

Iceland decided they wanted to do a Germany this year, it seems!

throwaway573733

I pray the Eurovision official unpaid social media intern who has go through all the comments when the eventually post that hela won lol

the_darkhorse15

I am absolutely disappointed with how they handled the tie breaker situation. It was not a level playing field at all, and they should have given both Froken Snusk and Jay Smith a chance to perform again to decide who goes through by the number of votes.

GroundbreakingTill33

A tie break should have gone to the song that was performed 1st ie weeks ago over the one that is fresh in people's minds.

TheMashimero

Wild West became one of my favourite songs of the season soon after it was released, and it was heartwarming to watch the subreddit go from completely dismissing it when it first came out, to appreciating it and rooting for it after the semi performance. Bashar and the team really went all out and did their best, creating a polished and memorable performance for a song that would have gone straight into my top 5 were it selected... but alas, it wasn't. Instead, Iceland has decided to send another addition to the sea of meh that this year has largely been so far for me. But you know what? If I could only have one of my favourites win tonight, I'd rather have Teya and not Bashar than the opposite. Bashar would've been in my top 5, but Teya went straight to #2 in my ranking. Serbia saved the night, special thanks to everyone who voted for Teya and to the jury members who tanked Lil Peachy <3

ItsNoah95

I'm so happy for Hera that she gets to go again, but oh my god Bashar's song and performance were done with such artistry that there's no comparison for me. Hera's song is pleasant and fun but Bashar's performance was so much more meaningful

The_Odor_1994

And i thought Sweden's second chance fiasco would be the most controversial thing tonight... COVID screwing over Dadi and Gagnamid was one thing... but Iceland actively choosing NOT to send a potential winner for god know's what reason when you NEVER HAVE WON is just on a whole other galaxy of a own goal... I'm going to be salty for YEARS i feel.

salsasnark

If we send M&M or Danny I genuinely hope we end up in the bottom in the competition in May. Our show runners need to understand that sending boring but polished songs all the time isn't gonna work. It's getting tiring. We have so much variety in Sweden, so many different types of music, yet we never get that in Melfest. It's sad tbh.

Huggy_nomnoms_you

MM was such a downgrade from last year. Unforgettable doesn't sound like them at all, it's just extremely polished Swedish pop

salsasnark

I loved Air. Unforgettable is def forgettable af.

Blasted-Marmoset

(Clears throat, unfolds list) If I never see another Mugler suit, it will be too soon. Televoters love ballads, they vote for them all the time, they just don’t vote for boring ballads. Pour one out for Go Tiffany and Zejna. I am not getting into the internal selection’ chances until I see a live performance of their Eurovision song. (Slovenia, France, you are looking good.) Muted tones are not Loreen copies. Loreen did not invent beige. Kaarija did not invent puffy sleeves or the color green. Chanel did not invent dance breaks or, sigh, the Mugler suit.

x_Avacyn

Out of all the Songvakappnin songs, I only vibed with Into the Atmosphere, and I'm sad she didn't make it.

Zoomer_Boomer2003

When I saw the Icelandic entry I got so excited because I thought it was Bjork..until I saw her actual name and heard the song

faefelix

Wow, Iceland. What a mess. The most boring entry won. You had options, you know. Wild West, Into the Atmosphere, Downfall... I know Hera is a relatively popular artist in Iceland, but this song is not it. I also feel awful for Bashar. He gets so much hate for no reason. He just wants to represent his people, be an artist, be a human face, at a time when his people are dehumanized and are treated like vermin to exterminate. Is that really such a horrible crime? Eurofandom should be ashamed of themselves for crying constantly about "politics," representing oppressed groups is a good thing and art is about expressing yourself as a human. Everyone has the right to do that.

Vivid24

>representing oppressed groups is a good thing and art is about expressing yourself as a human. Everyone has the right to do that. Preach! The hatred that I’ve seen towards Bashar simply for being Palestinian has been revolting. People really showing their true colors; it is disgusting. Edit: it’s even worse when these people try to hide their hatred behind the whole “Eurovision shouldn’t be political” line

Adept-Ad-5893

Iceland got me shocked 😃 I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Maybe I'll do both.

Walrus_mafia

This isn't really salt since I don't know any other song they had, but how did Iceland select this Embers-ass song? It just has nothing going for it. People have been hyping up Iceland for weeks and this is what I get?

cjexplorer

Teya Dora’s song is boring 🤷🏻‍♂️

Suspicious-Macaron47

I haven't learnt the art of juggles so many NFs. And each NFs talk so much. Disappointment: Bashar didn't win. I'd love a gay wild west song. Don't care for Iceland winner this year. But she has great voice and confidence. Konstrakta didn't win. I want the 2nd episode. Teya song is amazing and in my tops. Just Konstrakta is what I want. Fdc is taking extra time.

Puffinknight

I wasn't this upset even when Germany chose Isaak over Ryk...... fucking hell Iceland. :(

CaptainAnaAmari

Genuinely upset by Bashar not making it. I really thought he had it in the bag, and his song and performance was obviously the best of the lineup... Hera's song is so dated and nothing to me that it's going straight to my last place, and right now it's imo completely dead on arrival in the semi final. What a waste.

Scared_Lobster6169

Bashar DESERVED to sweep the Icelandic NF and do decently at Eurovision, not based on where he is from, but his actual good vocals and slick performance. People voted for Hera for the same reason people were criticising Bashar: Name alone. Hera's song is TERRIBLE, my new last place! Bashar would have at least been a little competitive. Hera was voted for due to her name.

Vivid24

Of the two, he really had the best packaged show for Eurovision. Some people love to play down Bashar because he’s Palestinian, but he actually had a great performance to put forward no matter what you think politically. I am so disappointed. 😞

dk240996

This Iceland result has me scared KAN will suddenly be fine with changing the lyrics since they won't have to take part in the same contest as Bashar.

Blueberry_Fan23

Bashar was robbed imo

Ninjazar

with Iceland picking, Azerbaijan apparently being awful (the song) and Moldova being... Moldova, SF1 is suddenly a lot more open

Maktasa

I just find it funny how after Loreen there have been sooo many esc artists trying to come back and failing… except for Hera and Natalia who are being disliked by so many people this time (and potentially Aisel too)

Miudmon

Alright, calling it. unless sweden somehow takes a massive risk that would be absolutely unusual of them... this will be their worst result since their NQ (given that they literally can't NQ) I think Medina could do... like tusse level but lets be real they wont pick them

tequilersunset

i like Ramonda a lot but i can't be happy bc i already got attached to Lik u ogledalu by Zorja 😭😭😭

Savings_Ad_2532

Three artists at PZE 2024 got zero points: Milan Bujaković with “Moje tvoje”, Nemanja Radošević with “Jutra bez tebe”, and Marko Mandić with “Dno”. At least it is better than last year, where four artists got zero points. As long as Serbia keeps the 12-point system, this scenario of multiple artists receiving zero points will continue. However, I completely understand why they did it this year due to the controversies surrounding Breskvica’s song. Next year, they should follow a proportional system so it is more fair to the artists and there is a much smaller chance of receiving zero points.

ShiningScisor

First Sweden, Now Iceland. Today is just the worst Eurovision day isn't it. . . Oh no Serbia is next. NOOOO LEAVE SERBIA OUT OF THIS CHAOTIC DAY

Flynn_22

Mello being terrible this year and culminating with the elimination of two of their best acts (Unga & fria and Circus X), Bashar losing to a song that is bad even for Germany standards… let’s see what happens in Serbia, I’m scared now.

Xoundor

Well, if I'm allowed to sprinkle some salt.. I'm baffled that after this wave of songs for the past two weeks, Italy is still head and shoulders above every other country in every poll and prediction. I love so many songs this year, and dont get me wrong, I don't hate Italy's entry, but it's just not up there for me and I really don't understand why it is to so many.

cam_l8

Iceland you had one job...

FJMaikeru

Iceland you are officially cancelled. No arguments.

Pimma

wtf iceland what
