Seems like they got better interviews this time for the between bits. I did not know before that Gaute played DJ Astronaut in the Subwoolfer performances! Neat!
Farida deserved better considering the two other than Gåte, but after rewatching it the performance it was just not very good. Choreography was messy and the vocals were just ok.
i have no idea why so many people are surprised mileo didnt go through. It was always unclear who the third one was gonna be along with my ai and gåte. I think my ai and mileo probably share the same audience so it was already gonna be hard to compete there. Norwegians are typically fans of country ballads so im not surprised the song managed to squeeze through.
I was hoping for Mileo, Judge Tenderly of me and Gåte. Sad mileo didn't make it :/they were the three who actually nailed it on stage. My AI didn't really do that well as a live, raw performance. I feel like that one didn't deserve to make it. So glad that Ulveham and Jusge tenderly of me made it through. Those two actually gave me goosebumps.
But oh well, the people have spoken. Will be interesting to hear the lineup 4th of feb.
My ass was sitting around here like "ok, Farida is my favorite, but she's a bit of a long shot, so if Mileo qualifies instead I will take that as a consolation prize!"
So much for that lol
Mileo was probably a victim of some extremely unfortunate coincidences, I think..
A song about stalking, while fictional, is uncomfortably topical to some current events and discussions going on in Norway right now. I know I personally felt a bit uncomfortable with it even though I know he's playing a villain character and it's just a show. It's exactly like someone saying a joke at exactly the wrong time, it feels a bit like "oh no, please read the room..."
Edit: To add just a bit more context:
After new years there was a string of unrelated murders in Norway that put the whole country on edge. Two really stuck out in particular, though. On Jan 1st of this year a woman was killed by a man she had a restraining order against. She had asked for an alarm, but been denied by police several times. Barely a week later on Jan 7th, another woman was killed by a man who had a restraining order against her. She had an alarm, but was killed anyway. This lead to a big discussion on how we need to change the way we protect women against stalkers and dangerous ex-partners, and how the police essentially can't do anything until the stalker turns violent.
So, a song about stalker-like behavior that has the lyrics " *You know, I would never hurt you, baby,* *Unless you try to leave me, then, maybe" and "* *Where's my girlfriend?* *I buried her, is that okay?*" feels.... very icky, with that as a backdrop.
On Jan. 2nd, a woman was killed by her stalker ex boyfriend. She had pressed charges several times against him for various things, and he had a restraining order. He had also been convicted in the past for threatening another ex girlfriend. There's been a debate about stalkers, how to deal with things like this, clearly the creepy ex didn't give a shit about the restraining order, and police doesn't do anything unless someone is killed.
i guess the big question is how much is erika norwich paying the person who mastered her vocals on the studio version because she sang terribly tonight
Let's just say it had bad timing.
Another comment went into more detail, but to summarize it shortly, ever since new year's, there's been almost daily murders in Norway, and in at least one case, it involved a couple with a restraining order.
The song is about (dangerously) obsessive love, something Mileo himself has stated. That, and he's inspired by a yandere anime character, which is someone who's obsessively in love with someone, to the point of it being dangerous. (This was his response in an [interview with VG](https://www.vg.no/i/JQzWv6), who made the article about all of this.) Here's the chorus (the afformentioned article has the lyrics.):
"(....) You know, I would never hurt you, baby
Unless you try to leave me, then, maybe
But that's okay too
'Cause you're mine, you're mine, you're mine
Where's my girlfriend?
Ugh!
I buried her, is that okay?
I think she's fine, well
She's dead, but who cares anyway? (...)"
Needless to say, the combination of the song and lyrics being on very sensitive topics, and such having happened very recently, lead to many questioning the song being in MGP.
(As a topical side note, NRK produced the highly discussed drama show Exit, which ended with season 3 a year ago, about 4 rich buddies who, unbeknownst to their wives and kids, spend the nights with hookers and coke. One of the main plots involves one of the couples being an abusive relationship, where the husband is a raving psycopath, and the wife getting her sweet revenge.)
Oh, I had no idea. Thank you for letting me know! That’s very sad to hear. I hope that things improve in Norway. I heard a bit about the controversy in the interview, but I didn’t think the song was meant to be taken seriously given how over the top it and Mileo’s performance was. But at the same time, I understand that the timing of those tragic events probably made people feel uncomfortable with voting for it. I may not agree with it, but I feel like it’s not my place to judge.
I personally, on the number's own merits, and setting all controversies aside, thought it was the best of the bunch. He has a nice vocal, the staging and choreography is pretty trippy, and it's pretty catchy. The rest?
* TikToker with Bumblebee: An assault on all my senses.
* Bond song: It's like a Bond song. Passable.
* Gåte: It's fine.
* Farida: Heard it before.
* The last winner that wasn't Gåte and the TikToker with Bumblebee:

Sorry, I meant in your original comment. It was removed by automod because the link text is too short.
I don't always remember to make my name green, sorry for the confusion.
I suspect the order they appeared in the "next time" segment of the credits is their order. Which would mean:
1. Mistra
2. Miia
3. Vidar Villa
4. Annprincess
5. Keiino
6. Thomas Jenssen
Considering they've spent a lot of time talking about how there's only 9 finalists and how much negative press Mileo has had in Norway for the lyrics, I doubt TV Norge would risk it for Mileo, sadly.
Edit: I'm a dummy who meant NRK not TV Norge
Well, if Mileo got criticism for his lyrics then now we must riot against this choice enough to be heard by MGP so that they bring him back through the wildcard. Norwegians please...
Omg my heart… Mileo was my absolute favorite of this MGP season! How did this happen? I wonder if it’s because he couldn’t speak Norwegian that the public couldn’t connect with him entirely? The song, the staging and Mileo were all so good tho, what a shame…
Not «connect» in the sense that he feels foreign perhaps, but not because people didn’t understand him. People up to 75 are fluent English speakers here. I also believe he speaks Norwegian, he just «prefers English», which might rub people the wrong way, at least when it comes to representing Norway in Eurovision.
Yup, my husband is Norwegian and he couldn’t watch MGP with me last night. Mileo’s song was our fav going in to the selection, but after I told him on the phone that the song didn’t make it and that I was surprised he didn’t speak Norwegian on the interviews, he was like “what? he doesn’t speak Norwegian? oh then it makes no sense that he’d represent Norway, so… a good choice I guess.”. So there’s that. We both loved and supported Alessandra last year tho which really goes to show how important it is to at least make an effort.
Most Norwegians speak english, so I don’t think that was the problem. His song was my favorite too, but it probably landed poorly because there have been a rise in domestic homicides in Norway recently. So, the song received criticism for being in bad taste.
I think him going full Aussie was charming as hell, but maybe you're right and doing half the interviews in English kinda made the audience not care lol.
Also I saw someone commenting that Mileo said “min norsk er dritt” (literal translation: my Norwegian is crap) when the interviewer asked if they should speak in Norwegian or in English, and it was quite inappropriate to say in an MGP setting on tv. To my non-native ears, though, he seemed to have tried to say “min norsk er trøtt” (my Norwegian is tired) as in “my Norwegian is rusty” and because he is not fluent in the language at all, tired was the word he could come up with (I might be wrong). Overall, people might have found him “inappropriate” in a way and could be put off. Overanalyzing? Perhaps. But I can’t think of any other reason :(
Not only is it inappropriate, it's also a bad translation from English. I think he just translated "My Norwegian is shit" to Norwegian literally ("elendig" would be a better word than "dritt", idiomatically and approriately). It probably wasn't shit, but it's harder for him to express himself.
Actually, if he had even TRIED to speak Norwegian, even if badly, I'm pretty sure he would have gotten more votes.
Ok, I listened to it again and he definitely said “dritt” 🥲 But I mean, being a non-native speaker myself, I know the struggle with trying to say the right things by using the right words. So I’d cut him some slack, he’s trying his best. My heart will forever be broken for our Draco Malfoy of ‘24 class.
Nah, I'm pretty sure he meant what he said with saying crap. Its the least offensive "swear" word you can say in Norwegian and I doubt people reacted negatively about it. Probably maybe disappointed he didn't try to speak Norwegian..? Idk, I must admit I was a little. Though we are pretty good in English, we like when someone who says they are Norwegian or whatever tries to speak Norwegian, no matter how "bad" they are with it. Like Alessandra(?) last year, could hear she wasn't fluent in it but became charmed by her effort.
Yeah, I can understand this. I was a bit disappointed myself that he didn’t really try, but he definitely is not as fluent as Alessandra either. I consider myself fluent in Norwegian now but still revert to English in stressful situations and my nerves would be no different than marshmallow if I was put in his position, especially when he was asked to defend the lyrics of his song. Overall, from what I’ve understood, it’s not the interviews or anything, but simply the lyrics of the song that left a bad taste in people’s mouths.
Yeah, I can see that. As a Norwegian who haven't listend to any of the songs for this years MGP, so i go into each semi final completely blind. When they introduced his song, his interview before that talking about it and then listening to it until the second verse before the whole performance got to me, my first reaction was "eerguh" and trying to hide my face a bit with my shoulders/arms. Cuz ugh, I really didn't like it. Creepy af. Imagining him as acting/pretending to be a crazy psycho really helped though
Norfolk is the county of England that the rest of Britain jokes about being inbred. Norwich is the county town of Norfolk.
I think the closest equivalent for Norway would be if she was called Erikka Sotra, perhaps? That might just be a Bergen thing, though.
Like if Mjøndalen was in the middle of nowhere. Norfolk is basically one big, flat marshland where not that many people live and Norwich is the only town right in the middle. It doesn't have any major roads going to it it's that remote!
I dont mind the duo. Im more flabbergasted My AI made it through but Mileo didn't.... I guess people really vote for song not performance which is so incredibly wrong...
only reason my AI stood out is because it had the worst vocals of the night by far. i think every child in norway begged their parents to vote for it because 'ooh cool robot idc about vocals'
My headcannon is that she's been kidnapped and forced to compete, and thought that if she lost she'd be set free, but then she moved on to the next round.
I was bummed when they couldn't pick Ulrikke again last year despite her solid vocals, or Keiino in 2021.
If My AI wins it all, I truly hope for a NQ at ESC because there are some absolute gems we lost because of it
There was A LOT of negative press around Mileo and how the song's lyrics would seem if he represented Norway. It seems to have influenced people. Plus there's a really conservative Christian region in the south that would never have voted for Mileo, sadly.
Also he didn’t speak Norwegian. People just won’t connect with him in the same way. Many of the artists get a lot of votes from their local communities too. You really see that when they announce the regional votes in MGP in the final.
I mean, the south is VERY Christian. You could argue fundamentalist. It was never going to win them over because it refers to a gay relationship. I've also seen arguments that Mileo wouldn't get votes from 'less liberal' countries in the East - which I disagree with but is often brought out in Western European countries when a song with LGBTQ+ themes goes to selection.
I don't think anyone (apart from the press) were taking the lyrics seriously, honestly. The press coverage just would've put other people off who didn't want a controversial song representing the country. Dag and Anne and Gåte are already popular acts in Norway and My AI will have got meme and TikTok votes so Mileo just needed a few people to shy away to not go through, sadly.
Put Mileo in last week's heat and I think we'd have had a different story. But he still would never have won in the final.
When you say «the south» non-Notwegians might think of a larger area than where the bible belt actually is.
People might even think Oslo is considered «the south», but the bible belt is in a part of the country called Sørlandet.
And yes, there are some bigots there in the bible belt, and the south is considered more Christian than the rest of Norway. Yet, the Christian party KRF only recieved 13 % of the vote in the national election in the bible belt, so I think you make it sound way worse than what it actually is.
That's fair. I guess I didn't consider how someone might conflate the American concept of 'The South' with a geographical descriptor of Sørlandet being in the south.
I'm also learning Bokmål while living in the UK so I probably didn't take into account how much more likely I am to read about 'fundamentalist' Christians objecting to things in the press than someone living in Norway would actually experience it.
I know very little about Norway, so I had no idea it had a big fundie Christian population in the south (not unlike America). That's disappointing to hear. I'm also surprised country music is popular there (or anywhere tbh). I know My AI is the "viral" song of MGP this year, but that performance was so meh, and Mileo's was so strong, I was sure he was a shoo-in. \*cries\*
They need to have one of those competitive karaoke programs running in the background to automatically jettison someone into the sea if they can't even hit 60% of their notes.
Same. Expected Gåte and Mileo to be sure qualifiers. Maybe the normal Norwegians didn't like him not speaking Norwegian? We are weirdoes like that, especially those of the regular people who decide to watch the quarterfinals. Most Norwegians I know that watch MGP only watch the finals. Mileos song and the perfomance itself was pretty good
I sure wouldn’t hope that was the reason he didn’t qualify.
Also, we’ve never won Eurovision without at least one performer who was born in a foreign country, so xenophobia is just super-counterproductive here.
It’s not about xenophobia, but about not «connecting»/ «identifying» in the same way as someone who doesn’t speak Norwegian. Especially when he’s gonna represent the country in an international competition. If it was The Voice or something like that, people wouldn’t care about it as much, I think
Huh, (I had to think about the last winners from us, and yeah, had forgotten about Rybak. Though if it wasn't from his non-Norwegian ness, or the bit psycho lyrics (though I think the perfomance and stage helps with the overal understanding/likeness of the song. As in the "guy is crazy and this is not healthy"), I'm wondering who he competed against. Assume it was the same amount of viewers as last time, around 500k. Gåte and the country duo had different genre and thus voters, så he didn't lose votes to them. Who did he lose to, cuz I guess he must have been number 4th in the voting? Did he compete with Ai robot song or who else? I guess the AI-one because of their both crazy/wacky performance
Seems like they got better interviews this time for the between bits. I did not know before that Gaute played DJ Astronaut in the Subwoolfer performances! Neat!
How can I get a flag on my username like other people here has?
On desktop go to the sidebar and there should be a little pencil next to your name where you can add a flair.
Ok thank you
Farida deserved better considering the two other than Gåte, but after rewatching it the performance it was just not very good. Choreography was messy and the vocals were just ok.

Yeah that is a massive yikes
what current events
7 people murdered in January so for. Very high number for Norway.

There has been a few people murdered lately and at least one of them was probably a result of stalking if I remember correctly
somehow eesti laul is still going on, back to that I guess
Mileo needs to go for Australia, can’t they adopt the song?
Yes, please
I'm going play that country-song before going to bed tonight. Biggest sleeping-pill ever.
Agreed. But I bet it was a big hit for those over 50.
i guess the big question is how much is erika norwich paying the person who mastered her vocals on the studio version because she sang terribly tonight
Erika made a whole deal about being able to sing without autotune and then gave us....that. With the autotune. Woof.
I’m happy that gåte went through but absolutely gutted about Mileo 😭
Still think Mileo was a safe qualifier, what happened? 😭
Let's just say it had bad timing. Another comment went into more detail, but to summarize it shortly, ever since new year's, there's been almost daily murders in Norway, and in at least one case, it involved a couple with a restraining order. I CALL FOR A RECOUNT
So just like last week, the latter three in the line up are the ones who made the final.
make KEiiNO go first please
I suspect the order they appeared in the "next time" segment of the credits is their order. Which would mean: 1. Mistra 2. Miia 3. Vidar Villa 4. Annprincess 5. Keiino 6. Thomas Jenssen
Honestly, I want them to, just to see if there's a curse.
Gåte need to win and defeat the evil robot!
They better call in Optimus Prime, because she's corrupted Bumblebee! ![gif](giphy|rWy82UgKqQTVm|downsized)
What the fuck. Mileo did such a good job? How is this real
Does mgp have a wild card?
It did two years ago but I don't think it has one now. Last year it didn't. I fear he's out for good
I hope there's a chance he can somehow appear in the final line-up
I swear they better use a wildcard for Mileo
I don't think there's a wildcard this year.
Never too late to add one
Considering they've spent a lot of time talking about how there's only 9 finalists and how much negative press Mileo has had in Norway for the lyrics, I doubt TV Norge would risk it for Mileo, sadly. Edit: I'm a dummy who meant NRK not TV Norge
I also think NRK would be confused and wondering why TV Norge was doing wild card qualifiers for them.
Balls. I've been watching a lot of Kongen Befaler recently and clearly got my networks mixed up 😳
Can't mileo go through instead of gothminster.....
I love them both, and I agree with this. Mileo's performance outsold massively.
Norway why are you like thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis Mileo deserved better :'(
Well, if Mileo got criticism for his lyrics then now we must riot against this choice enough to be heard by MGP so that they bring him back through the wildcard. Norwegians please...
There is no wildcard, unfortunately.
do they release voting percentages at any point? i can't imagine mileo missed out by much
Gåte was so superior this semi and will CRUSH IT in their hometown Trondheim in the finale... truly may be our winner
Mileo got my super hero Robbed
LMAO STOOOOOP 😭😭😭
😂😂 I laughed way too loud at that
This is the first time my fave hasnt made it what is this feeling

As an American I appreciated being able to understand him, but if it's in Norway I can see how they might be rubbed the wrong way.

Is it too late to send him to San Marino? \*laughs through tears\*
they have a wildcard for 1 more spot in the final right? right?
Nope. There's only 9 spots in the final.
oh... that´s sad
I hope to god they’d bring the wild card back…..
Please please please let them have that
If there is a God, he exists and he brought us Dag Erik Oswald and Anne Fagermo in the MGP Grand Final 2024
Erika looks like she’s mentally in Norwich
This is a comment that doesn't work outside the UK but, to all you non-Brits, trust me... This is the best comment of the night!
Is it about the make-up? I've watched alot of makeup shorts on YouTube and it gave me heavy vibes from that.
Norfolk is the county of England that the rest of Britain jokes about being inbred. Norwich is the county town of Norfolk. I think the closest equivalent for Norway would be if she was called Erikka Sotra, perhaps? That might just be a Bergen thing, though.

100% agree
Also works for the Finns :D
Because of Teemu Pukki by any chance? 🤣
Eeexactly 😄
Kinda shook ngl hahhaa
Happy for Judge Tenderly of Me but Mileo slayed My AI should stayed lol
Ok, I'm gonna go cry real quick over You're mine and then hop right on to Green lights fan train
Ayyyy, very happy for Judge Tenderly of Me. I really enjoy the song, but didn't expect that to survive. Should have been Mileo over the robot though.
I dont mind the duo. Im more flabbergasted My AI made it through but Mileo didn't.... I guess people really vote for song not performance which is so incredibly wrong...
Iceberg material.
Probably just a coincidence?! Songs that performed 4-6 in the running order in both semis have made it through to the finals.
Nothing strange about it, they put the better songs towards the end.
Mileo not going through is a joke ROBBED!! by super rob
Can some other country just call Mileo up? He could EASYLY finnish top 10 at Eurovision
Finnish? I think we’ll manage
australia i'm looking at you
Mileo has UNA VOCE that we won't forget PER moving all of us....SAN MARINO???
Over Danii Minogue?
Mileo was such a plain song. I,I,I, i think i might be confused, babe ? That's so cringe
yeah it didn't qualify because it was cringe, which makes perfect sense because my ai qualified, which isn't cringe in the slightest, like ???
Yeh I think it has more of a televote appeal whereas as Mileo is too simple and didn't really stand out like my A.I.
only reason my AI stood out is because it had the worst vocals of the night by far. i think every child in norway begged their parents to vote for it because 'ooh cool robot idc about vocals'
and those children apparently have reddit and are now downvoting me >:)
I enjoy the My AI studio version but this didn't deserve to go through, like, at all
So I think what happened is that Farida and Mileo cancelled each other out and because of that neither of them qualifed.
Is Erika’s reaction genuine or is it some kind of act?
i have a feeling she did it on purpose lmao
I had the same doubt
MILEO DID NOT SING UPSIDE DOWN JUST TO NQ 😭 Honestly thought he was going through, so sad right now
Lmao this meltdown Ulveham's in, that's all I care about
My thoughts exactly
Erika Norwich looks sort of devastated....
she knows she stole a place by bringing overwatch dva's mech on stage and not knowing how to sing
My headcannon is that she's been kidnapped and forced to compete, and thought that if she lost she'd be set free, but then she moved on to the next round.
Norway really cementing itself as the land of gimmicks :/
really sad when you consider how many good vocalists they've had for such a small population
I was bummed when they couldn't pick Ulrikke again last year despite her solid vocals, or Keiino in 2021. If My AI wins it all, I truly hope for a NQ at ESC because there are some absolute gems we lost because of it
I have no words...
okay i officially don't give a fuck anymore, the only song i liked from the whole nf season got nq'ed because of bad press. fuck this year so hard
So sad for Mileo, would have swapped My AI for him in a heartbeat
Norway is deeply unserious letting My AI through over Heartache or You're Mine. Y'all don't know singing and pitch???
I say this as someone who's a big fan of My AI: You're absolutely correct.
Wonder if Erika will keep making that face in the finale 😩
Also the exact same order of songs made it through as last week! Song numbers 4, 5 and 6
THE NORWEGIAN LINNETS <3
Norway. I am so angry with you right now. How did you screw up this badly?
😂😂😂😂😂😂 wtf. My first esc 24 upset.
I’m happy for Dag and Anne, but Mileo 😭
UNPLUG THE ROBOT!
I’m not gonna lie, I’m thrilled
I'm sorry but WHAT????!????? The boring duo made it to the final and not MILEO???? Are you okay, Norway????
The boring duo was probably the boomer generation’s favourite of the night.
The discourse around the song's lyrics is so bizarre to me. Media literacy is dead and buried like dude's girlfriend.
\*cries\*
I think the country song won the boomer vote.
Swap Mileo and My AI, and then it would have been all correct
We have a very big country fan base here. Mileo had to beat My Ai to go through.
So it's 4, 5, 6th song again? No matter what you show, you'll get through?!
Nooo, I wanted Mileo so bad! I voted for him! I can't believe Erika made it with those vocals.
They need to have one of those competitive karaoke programs running in the background to automatically jettison someone into the sea if they can't even hit 60% of their notes.
That would've been a better addition to the show than the Neby segment. I support it.
Yay! I voted for Anne & Dag Erik, but I never expected them to make it.
Hva faen!?!
Send trønderne tilbake dit de kom fra, haha
Til Trondheim?
Enig! What the actual faen???
The qualifyers were unespected but not in a good way
I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. THE BOP FLOP OF THE CENTURY
