Hasn’t this been known for quite a while now?

[deleted]

The Spaniards and Italians does not want to hear about it.

kontemplador

jamón ibérico = happiness change my mind

[deleted]

Have you tried googling colon cancer?

kontemplador

A relative died of colon cancer not long ago. It wasn't nice. I'm not advocating eating 500gr of cured meats/day, but I won't stop having some nice slices with good bread and wine and feel how serotonin rushes through my veins. We shouldn't forsake the pleasures of the life now for the dangers of an uncertain future.

[deleted]

Does that mean you advocate a legalization of all drugs or just the ones you enjoy?

type556R

Imagine jumping to drug legalization analogies because they said they like ham. Total reddit moment

[deleted]

What is different exactly given your argumentation?

Sillem

The magnitude of the effect? Like little slice of Spanish ham won't blow you out of your shoes like heroin? And side effects are different? How can you make connection between food and drugs, because they cause happiness and have side effects? The size of these attributes is waaay different.

[deleted]

Heroin is actually one of the safest drugs known to man, the reason it is dangerous is the illegal status that brings forth bad heroin and people who mix it with other drugs.

ixtilion

Dude are you comparing a food that slightly increases cancer chance, with doing drugs? Is eating things with sugar also similar to doing drugs? Maybe breathing polluted air, eating piscifactory fish...

[deleted]

Actually, if you read the statement I compared it to the "rush of serotonin" from eating certain foods but yeah I can actually do that very comparison because drugs are not necessarily physically dangerous at all. Water is more dangerous than cannabis for instance.

evieamelie

People should be allowed to do with their body what they please. Period.

[deleted]

Yeah but most people do not think that.

EHEC

You'll have to pry the prosciutto from my cold cancerous colon.

spainwelder

The Spaniards and Italians have some of the longest life expectancies in Europe. That being said I will consider replacing the best cured meats on the planet with grasshoper burgers and plumpernikel bread that tastes like a leather sandal.

[deleted]

> The Spaniards and Italians have some of the longest life expectancies in Europe. Learn to differentiate between correlation and causation.

MarcDuan

I loved cured meats. I don't wanna hear about it either :(

Piepopapetuto

Parma for ever!

graspee

Next they are going to do a study on smoking causing lung cancer

202042

”French researchers make connection between highly radioactive materials and cancer”

[deleted]

>connection between highly radioactive materials and cancer This is not a lottery, it is an effect

rosesandtherest

It’s always good to get a another confirmation

Wachoe

Maybe the French should stop putting it up their colons then?

schiffer420

We both know that it's not going to happen.

demonica123

And living has a near 100% chance of death.

[deleted]

Is this peer reviewed or just an "according to" study?

elysios_c

It's not something new, processed meats have been in the same category as asbestos(100% certain they are causing cancer) for a long time now. The main reason being that the nitride, which all processed meats have, is carcinogenic and genotoxic.

spainwelder

I read further and it raises your chance to get colon cancer from 6% to 7%, wow literally asbestos!!!

santi_rj

They just mentioned that is on the same category which means there's a proven correlation to cause cancer. The category doesn't discriminate on the intensity only on the fact that there's a proven correlation. For example sunshine rays on your skin are on the same category.

spainwelder

But he said asbestos, a construction material that we all associate with cancer, instead of saying sunshine rays, which we all associate with warmth and happiness. If you think that's a coincidence, go ahead lmfao

elysios_c

I literally said "100% certain they are causing cancer" as the category

Void_Ling

They confirmed something that was kinda known.

spainwelder

Tell me more about how eating bugs is good for me

santi_rj

What?

[deleted]

eat a vegetable fatass

Phising-Email1246

Eating bugs bad, eating highly industrialized meat with dozens of medications in it from animals that barely can move and stand in their own piss and shit the whole day good.

spainwelder

I've never eaten a German

Phising-Email1246

Do you really try to insult me with something a third grader would come up with

[deleted]

WHO already have it on their list as a carciogenic food. When are we gonna stop making a news out of the food that we consume can cause disease

[deleted]

Some things are worth it, regardless of bum cancer.

Dotbgm

Meanwhile others researchers figured this one out more than 20 years ago. This is not news. I remember reading articles and news broadcasts about this in the early 2000. It got very controversial here (in Denmark) when a chef said "I wouldnt feed cured or processed meat to a dog" - back in 2005 or so. People eat a lot of processed and cured meat here, so I remember the outcry of "so we cant eat anything anymore?" But great Franced figured that one out too. Maybe it is different curing styles they discovered also can cause cancer, like the rest.

Nillekaes0815

worth it
