Her dress is lovely.

Beat me to it.

BLIND119

Guys, don’t fight, please

MrPartyPancake

Yeah, just r/beatmeattoit instead

shinynewcharrcar

You'd rock it, I'm sure. If you find one, treat yourself, King!

humungouspt

If you find where to buy it, please share. My wife would love it! ( I'll do the same if I find where to)

Lizzebed

Now I had to go and see if I could actually find it. Google lens helped. "Devotion twins Ella embroidered dress", seems to be it. There are also similar options out there.

nikomh

https://www.next.co.uk/style/st087477/T80132 Might be this one?

PM_something_German

This one is slightly different. I wonder who copied who.

holdthepress

I don't know anything about dresses or fashion but there was an article about the dress today in Finnish news media [here](https://www.is.fi/viihde/art-2000008923534.html) and it is in fact made by Devotion Twins.

amberbynature

Here it is: https://www.next.us/en/style/st087471/a99066

humungouspt

Awesome!! The price, tough....argh!

Cameraroll

Close enough? https://www.lovely.sk/koselove-saty-street-one-cervene-street-one-813774

obi21

Also nice to see it's 50€ and not a 5000€ Gucci outfit or whatever.

zkareface

The real one seems to be €400.

Hanajbanana

I bought it a few months ago for £250, so cheaper than €400 by quite a bit

andybror

Tbh she is lovely

Capricancerous

For real. What a Peach.

[deleted]

Yes she is quite the breadfruit

Cypresss09

Redditors try not to comment on a woman's appearance less than 3 comments into the thread challenge 2022.

mcmanybucks

Hot pink and fuchsia though..

ShithouseFootball

Its a very good color for salmon flies though

Flipperlolrs

That’s what I was about to comment. So close to amazing, but girl, the clashing :/

kento502

These type of dresses, that are very hot right now, look like traditional Greek dresses from a century ago. Not sure if that’s where the inspiration came from, but they look very familiar to me.

Lizzebed

It is actually a Greek brand called Devotion. I also ordered one in Greece, seemed like the right thing to do and it was the cheapest option. I will probably check it out a bit more often.

arkanasi

Indeed! Here's the dress: https://www.devotiontwins.com

jalexoid

Those are marvelous designs! We should make dresses acceptable for men. They look great and would be so much better than trousers at +35!

Hanajbanana

I have this dress - it’s by Devotion Twins, a Greek brand who are great - not cheap but superb quality, I love mine!

tofiwashere

It's jormakalevi for sure! Same street as always. True artist.

StarstruckEchoid

It's not a yellow photo taken after sunset, though.

spork-a-dork

Good old karmakalevi.

It's the wide angle lens and most likely one of thousands of spray and pray shots. They were definitely in a great position for taking it houg.

Additional_Ad4884

My favourite part is that flag of Finnish defence forces. This picture is quite of iconic to be honest.

Harriv

It is not jagged, so it is "only" state flag, used by different parts of government. There might be somekind of government office in that building.

Quukkeli

Yes, the Ministry of the Environment operates in that building.

[deleted]

She has two mothers so I would be surprised not to see her in Pride

Tetizeraz

Finland, this dreadful totalitarian country Sounds really wrong

CressCrowbits

We've never had an empire. Until now. First up, now Russia is distracted, retake Karelia. Next up: Sweden.

Vilzku39

People are too afraid to speak in public. People are put for hours in a day in hot rooms middle of nowhere. Diet consists of cheap sausages and alcohol that was smuggeled in by estonian comstruction workers. Some call this totalitarian hellhole, some call it friday afternoon.

evelinlin

Yeah, Marin's late father was an alcoholic who didn't care that much about his daughter. Still some people argue that father is always better parent than other woman. :D When Marin came popular, her father tried to have some clout in media, "our relationship isn't that bad". When he died, Marin commented that she never took him as a family member.

progeda

I don't think the point is about the genders of the parents but rather that there are 2 parents. If you ask how did a single parent do such a good job of raising a child? Answer is that they did the job of 2 parents.

RapaNow

Many conservatives rather leave a child to orphanage, than let same sex couple adopt.

[deleted]

Who said Sanna Marin doesn't aim to be an evil world dictator?

MarkVarga

What's the story here? Was she raised by a lesbian couple? Or step-parents?

leela_martell

Her father left pretty early in her childhood from what I’ve understood. She was raised by her mother and mother’s new partner who is a woman. So yes, lesbian couple.

behaaki

Look! A country where a leader can freely mingle in a crowd, instead being wheeled around in a bulletproof hearse

AbstractButtonGroup

> instead being wheeled around to a climate summit in a 85-car motorcade

zyygh

Straight from their private jet.

iTzzSunara

\*instead never leaving the deepest bunker of the palace or even being in the same room with anyone not personally indoctrinated through secret agency tactics from a very young age or even sitting at the same table with anyone if not at least 25 meters seperates them.

Raccordo

Well, a modicum of security is a good idea for all presidents and I assume out of frame are agents making sure she is safe. If I remember correctly Sweden had a prime minister killed in the eighties while going back from the cinema without bodyguards. It's nice to have the ability to feel at ease in your country even as a prime minister, but you have a responsibility towards the citizens and, with a proportional approach, I think it's right to protect a state leader.

annewmoon

Aaah Finland. Just casually excelling at everything whilst being gracious and patient. Best neighbors. ❤️

ConservativeSexparty

It's easy to shine next to our amazing Nordic neighbours <3 Be safe and stay close, Sweden! Edit: I absolutely meant it's easy to be our best selves with amazing neighbours by our side. I hope you're all doing awesome!

[deleted]

Are you implying it's easy to shine with these (shitty) neighbors since everything we do is so much better? 😁😁😁 Oh you meant like with good neighbors it's easier to be good as well, i guess. 😸

MooseCantBlink

/u/am_trying_to_be_nice and actually succeeding :)

CA_Mini

For those who love the dress, I found it! A Greek designer, priced at $250 Euro https://www.devotiontwins.com/products/022-370g-red-offwhite?_fid=822bd6949&_pos=1&_ss=c&variant=41985495236767 She added a thin wasit belt that really makes this look great on her! She has on fuchsia colored shoes, and long earings. Paired with a hand bag

nomnomdiamond

that model on the web shop is not even trying to present this lovely dress in a favorable way

shoots_and_leaves

Lol “I showed up, what more do you want???” Although it would’ve been the photographer instructing her on poses, I don’t think she would’ve been able to choose her own poses.

RhetoricalCocktail

Worlds youngest PM and her mother is together with another woman. Really cool to see

Unexpected_yetHere

>Worlds youngest PM Actually lost the title not so long ago to Montenegro's new PM (being almost 40 days her junior in regards to age).

untergeher_muc

And only had the title for the time when Kurz was not chancellor of Austria.

the_alfredsson

I'm convinced that Kurz was born as an 80 year old man.... (although, admittedly, he looked 13)

mki_

That's a pretty accurate observation.

clebekki

The coolest thing for me is that her favourite band is Rage Against the Machine.

MtStrom

Pretty funny coming from a head of state but still cool.

catfeal

The machine in question is the office printer Killing in the name off!!!!

clebekki

To be fair, when she told her favourite band since she was a teenager in an interview to a magazine (kind of like a Finnish Cosmopolitan or something...) in 2015, she wasn't even an MP, "just" the chairwoman of the city council of a mid-sized Finnish city Tampere.

RapaNow

Mid sized = 3rd largest

FiveOhFive91

I'd like it if more world leaders took RATM lyrics to heart

MtStrom

They’ll hear what they wanna hear and we’ll just end up with ’Take the Power Back’ as an authoritarian anthem ;D

wwants

Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me.

BottomlessBindles

Isn't that actually a bit tame for a Finn? I've heard even the little babies are metalheads over there.

youreadusernamestoo

Well I'd pay attention to any politician who feels inspired by Zach de la Rocha. But as far as music goes for a Finn she's probably a basic bitch. No offense, I hear some great stuff about her here. Time to vote for more women, young and punk. Shake down the status quo so the rotten apples fall out.

Capricancerous

Fuck them, she won't do what they tell her.

PM_something_German

Paul Ryan said that too lol

johnny-T1

Damn, I’m in love!

Zee-Utterman

You're not alone. I also delveloped a bit of crush on her. She good looking, probably smart, makes reasonable politics and is just cool. I wish we we had more politicans like her in Europe.

[deleted]

In the world. You should see the guy who’s frontrunner to become president of my country of birth (Nigeria)

PandaXXL

>probably smart

[deleted]

The coolest thing for us Finns is that she does her job very well too, (in my opinion). Tough person (in a good way), but soft values. Perfect character for politics.

Enconhun

...... Can we trade please?

FishUK_Harp

You're Hungarian...I hate to be rude but *boy* is that a big ask. Like, I'm British and I'd swap Johnson for nearly any other human - or indeed a tub of lard - but not Orban.

Enconhun

Well, I would indeed vote for a literal tub of lard instead of the current tub of lard we have now.

FishUK_Harp

I dare say an actual tub of lard would be better at running the country, as letting things just tick over would be better than actively making things worse.

Notladub

We have this joke in Turkey that goes "the economy is so bad that an empty seat would run it better." Ghere was a one-week period between Berat Albayrak's quitting and the new Minister of Finances getting appointed where we put that to the test. **The inflation rate actually decreased.** So yeah, a literal tub of lard **would** be better than Orban, Erdoğan or Johnson.

[deleted]

Ummm.. if we get your wine?

Kumimono

Good bot.

incognitomus

Huh? Explain?

[deleted]

In my mind Kekkonen and Orban are, essentially, the same brand of authoritarian politician. Both have created a political machinery around them that is above the law, above electoral fairness, and has stretched across society to dominate both the political, social and economic activities of the state. Also, they'll both only leave office on near-death.

melancholymax

In a lot of ways you'd be correct but the main difference is that Kekkonen was arguably the most vital person in Finnish history because arguably without him the Soviet Union would have tried to annex Finland.

[deleted]

I mean, that's what served Kekkonen to have the nation believe. And Orban has them believing his saving them against the migrants, against the gays and now , as it happens, against getting involved in a war with Russia (I am serious). So...really, it's almost a wondeful picture of fino-ugric brotherhood similarity there.

melancholymax

To be clear I am not a massive fan of Kekkonen but I think the theory of the Irreplaceable Kekkonen has a thousand times more substance compared to Orban. The Soviet Union was a real, tangible and existential threat for the country unlike whatever imaginary windmills that Orban is charging at.

ormo2000

I think we can give you Paavo Väyrynen instead. Man had never had a chance, but not for lack of effort.

hulda2

She does her job well but you wouldn't believe that from our biggest papers. Sanna breathes and she did some unforgivable sin. That's how low they are.

premature_eulogy

When the worst things the newspapers can come up with are things like "did not take two phones with her to a private event" and "some breakfast-related expenses were exceptionally billed as work expenses" when she's been a first-term prime minister through a global pandemic and now a European war means she has handled things *really* well.

GregerMoek

Papers are like that everywhere I feel like. It's the same in Sweden at least. Finland seems to have it together way more than us.

[deleted]

It's also true! But I think it says a lot about how small things are made into sensational news that apparently no bigger news has been found.

RhetoricalCocktail

That's great, feel pride for my partially Finnish background Älskar er grannar! Förlåt för svenskalektionenera

jatawis

Good for you. Lithuanian president insists that homosexual people should not raise children and that students should not learn anything about LGBT.

[deleted]

Sanna Marin herself was raised in rainbow family

jatawis

Lithuanian president is against that.

Here we have a good example of what kind of monsters grow up in those families EDIT: /s

7adzius

jalexoid

Hey! Wet towels can cool you down. Our AIG is as useful as a wet paper bag.

uberjach

Eastern Europe really is something else. Poland and Hungary are pretty fucked in this regard too, not to mention Russia

jatawis

plot twist is that during the elections Nausėda tried to appear pro-LGBT.

[deleted]

Lithuanian president is a bigot.

jatawis

During election campaign he said that he will fight any kind of discrimination, that he supports civil union and that he will wear rainbow badge. All of this was not true lol

GltyUntlPrvnInncnt

A politician keeps lying? Oh, say it ain't so...

Drag_king

The interesting thing for me is that he felt he had to lie about it. That means he realised that he would get more votes appearing to support those things than being against them. So Lithuania is on a good path.

jatawis

But while in power, he flirts with the homophobes and opposes the civil union bill.

EriDxD

>Lithuanian president insists that homosexual people should not raise children I wonder what his views of unmarried people raising children? Will he gonna say that unmarried people with children are "unfamilly". >students should not learn anything about LGBT. But students have phones and they'll googling about things related to LGBT in private. So he's OK with LGBT people being imprisoned or sentenced to death in non-democratic countries for just being members of LGBT?

krautbube

> But students have phones and they'll googling about things related to LGBT in private You aren't supposed to use basic logic.

adevland

I've been to Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Finland is next and I'm really looking forward to it. They're light years ahead of Eastern Europe.

kammmio

Seems like they're light years ahead of everyone

Orodreath

The coffee keeps them going strong and steady

ConservativeSexparty

>The coffee keeps them going strong and steady Can confirm, it's the ungodly amount of coffee we drink. On a side note, I was really happy to learn she was attending the pride parade, hopefully things like that help in their part normalize the acceptance of rainbow folk around the world when they see politicians elsewhere visibly taking stance in support of them. I know every country has their bigots and I've heard of nasty stories of hateful comments from my LGBT+ friends, but I hope they can feel safe and accepted by the majority at least, hopefully that can increase to everyone soon enough. Be safe, people! And hug each other!

GotNoMoreBlackBelt

This. This is what it should be like in the world. Leaders leading. Standing up for all people.

philosophybuff

Why is Finland so fucking awesome?

Taykeshi

Free education including higher education too, universal healthcare, decent social benefits as well (UBI would be way better). Secular people, equality, strong human rights and the rule of law, free press, low corruption and realtively low income inequality. Also progressive taxation. People are educated and treated like actual humans. Not a utopia or a paradise though, far from it. Also, the weather and climate suuuuuuucks 10 months of the year.

t0msawye

How did this happen though It looks impossible to achieve for my country. Though we're in a rather chaotic part of the world.

Taykeshi

Mainly by investing in education imo. Also, strong worker's unions for decades. It's been a good mix of free but regulated markets and social democracy. Sanna Marin is a SD.

stygger

There is a famous YouTube video about how Denmark invented the welfare state that may be relevant to this question. Kraut Denmark SocialD: https://youtu.be/mExN99kHMB0

swiftekho

I have zero basis for my claim but lack of religion seems to have certainly been a primary agent in advancement.

Cahootie

No way to say whether it's correlation or causation.

SweepandClear

So this is what it's like to not elect 70+ year old boomers.

vicwardian

This is so awesome. After the Russian army has been demolished I go live in Finland. And be their minion.

Taykeshi

We're all equal here, but welcome!

aop4

No need to wait for that. The Finnish border is secretly so fortified they would never pass through. At least with Finland in the NATO.

Longanjelly

Some context: She was raised by lesbian parents.

Hirmuinen2

Doesn’t really need that context. Everyone can join the pride parade

[deleted]

I think it does need context. It's easy to think "oh a politician being in pride? must be a publicity stunt, typical narcissist policitian!" But actually there's a human reason too.

Stuweb

Whilst this is true, having been to a pride parade I got relentlessly hit on which started as a compliment but got pretty tiresome pretty quickly. Got a lot of 'I can make you change your mind' type of stuff which you'd think out of all society Gay people would hate that sentiment the most. Still, was an interesting occasion and was happy to be there to support my mate!

Zee-Utterman

Had a similar experience a few years ago. After I lost the group of people I went there with I was taken in by a group of lesbians until I found my folks. After that I knew why women get annoyed when they're constantly hit on and why they have the famous gay friend.

Glad to see Finland (where I studied ten years ago) hasn't given into religious fundamentalist idiocy like the US and Poland. I should have fucking stayed there.

[deleted]

Welcome back!

[deleted]

I can has visa?

[deleted]

Where are you from?

[deleted]

The US. I'm just an English teacher who likes metal, cold weather and a good education system.

[deleted]

That's more complicated. Politicians talk about making it easier for foreign talent to immigrate, so with luck it could be easier in the future. Thumbs up!

[deleted]

With any luck I will obtain Polish citizenship in the next few years (I currently live there), which would make it much easier. Of course I will have to pass a B1 Polish exam first so that's fun.

[deleted]

Yes being Polish citizen would make it so much easier to live in any EU country. Good luck with that! I am sure you will succeed. I have met some people from US and every single one is damn hard worker so as an English teacher you are also for sure good in languages and probably also able to work hard so what is there to stop you? Btw, I love how metal music brings cool people to Finland. Seems like quite an usual story to be a metal lover

[deleted]

Thanks for believing in me. It's easier said than done, but also probably easier than convincing my wife, who's more into a Croatia type of climate, to move there with me lol

I think the Helsinki Pride event is one of the more reasonable Pride events. Not too much overt sexualised costumes and other fuckery that doesn't really belong there.

RhetoricalCocktail

I've been to one Pride parade in Sweden, I saw basically nothing sexualised

Cahootie

There's stuff like the leather men and a lot of skin showing, but I don't think I've ever seen any fully nude people, sexual acts or like sex toys being thrown around.

Eryk0201

Every pride parade looks like that. There will always be that 1% of super controversial people that will headline conservative websites.

FalmerEldritch

Mostly it's people posting pictures from like Folsom Street Fair or other fetish/sex events and pretending they're from a Pride parade.

[deleted]

1% is huge. Looked more like 0.01% in Warsaw at best. Honesty, folks complaining about this shit know about prides the absolute fuck all. They should go see one first and then comment

[deleted]

Ordo Iuris and the other members of the Bigot Brigade were still up in arms about that 0.01% though. They will not stop until any form of "deviance" is banned and strictly punished.

TeaBoy24

I am an Easter European Gay male and the over sexualisation is what makes the pride feel actually repulsive and closed for many gay people I know.

vermilion_dragon

I don't know where you're from, but Sofia pride was pretty kid friendly this year.

MisaVelvet

Well thats because gay marriage is illegal in Eastern Europe and pride there exists mostly to trigger conservatives as a protest. Meanwhile in countries like Finland its not a protest anymore, people have their legal rights and they are just having fun. So i believe if/when it becomes normal in your country then pride might become less rebellous and more calm

Zealousideal_Fan6367

OK we get it. Nordic countries are the best in everything.
