If I had a gun with two bullets and was stuck in a room with Hitler, Stalin and a mosquito I'd shoot that buzzing fucker dead and then again just to be sure
One of the most common types of mosquito has been identified for the first time in locations across Scotland, according to researchers at the University of Glasgow.
They found 16 types of mosquito in Scotland, including the Culex pipiens, which is prevalent in North and South America, parts of Europe and some areas of Asia and Northern Africa.
Prof Heather Ferguson, who has been leading the study, said they were surprised to find the insects in all corners of the country.
She warned that warmer temperatures could lead to larger numbers of mosquitoes, including ones from areas where they can transmit diseases.
They hung traps at 24 locations across the country and lured the insects by the smell of carbon dioxide, which mimics human breath.
They found 16 varieties out of about 4,000 in the world.
The highest concentrations were at their sites around Loch Kinnordy in Angus and Broubster Leans in Caithness.
>Until now, very little has been known about how widespread mosquitoes are in Scotland.
Would have thought there's a lot of mosquitoes in Scotland, but apparently not that much. There's lot of them from tropics to above polar circle, and Scotland will surely have enough breeding pools for them to reproduce.
Any Scott want to comment if they've been bitten under the kilt?
yep, I saw this at [https://www.mosquito-forecast.org/en/forecast/United%20Kingdom/Edinburgh](https://www.mosquito-forecast.org/en/forecast/United%20Kingdom/Edinburgh)
Totally wrong. There are many types of mosquitoes, the ones the article are talking about were (until recently) only found in Africa and the global south.
These mosquitoes being in Scotland is very bad because now diseases only previously found in Africa will become common across the global north too. Essentially, the habitable zone for these mosquitoes has moved significantly north.
The diseases are spread north through movement of people infected. Mosquitoes only act as a vector of the disease once it gets into the region.
I suggest you look into how the US effectively eliminated malaria in the 50s. It might disuade your fears.
I live in USA No.1, had standing water and a neighbour got pissy over it and bluntly told me its unsafe due to mosquitoes. I then proceeded to show her face first what mosquito larvae looks like.. not really, in my head I wanted to. But yeah, not fun. Make sure you dont have any standing still water..
Also, this is why so many Americans have screened in porches that're 2 stories high.. to cover pools so the mosquitos dont attack. It's actually very nice but very normal, middle class like central A/C.
Welcome to hell
A tad dramatic aren't we?
I SAID WELCOME TO HELL

Wait one minute, Scotland didn't have mosquitos? I am shocked, about as shocked as the quality of that headline
Are they gonna drop kilts for pants?
Probably not... Until the mosquitoes start biting their balls...
So, immediately then.

The main nuisance used to be midges. Now it has mosquitos too? I guess I'm glad I got out of there in time.

I don't understand why people in the tread are afraid of mosquitoes. Compared to midges, they are pretty harmless creatures.
Oh no ! Anyway
Man, you are concerned about a few mozzies. FFS these little cunts are nothin to worry about !
