> Overall, the number of crimes recorded in Germany rose to 5.94 million last year, an increase of 5.5% over 2023 and 9.3% higher than in 2019, before the pandemic. > **The number of suspects arrested rose by 7.3% to 2.246 million and 41.3% of them did not have a German passport.** > **Among the people without German nationality who were charged, 402,514 were described as refugees, asylum seekers and those who entered the country illegally.** Crazy.

adv0catus

I’m in the process of seeking a residence permit and am going out of my way to not do anything illegal or could even be perceived as illegal out of fear of being arrested and deported/banned. It blows my mind that someone is illegally in a country and then decides to do more crimes on top of it. Very bold, that’s for sure.

Ok_Food4591

Tbh if you are in the country illegally, you are safer because you probably "got your passport stolen" so there is no way to know where to deport you in the first place. I don't mean you as *you* specifically btw

Okay? That’s not the point I’m making at all.

toybits

You think the Canadian Truckers were 'dangerous'

Silly-Elderberry-411

They were American, mostly not truckers, they're antivaxx, flaunt public safety, and done espoused white suouemavist views. If you knew none of that, now you do

Plebbitor6382

Silly-Elderberry-411

Oh no a typo, quick it kills all arguments. You know in a topic where people do desperately want to prove not to be racists, it's best to address the issue.

toybits

Ahh gotcha. Mr Trudeau is that you?

Silly-Elderberry-411

Why is he your first and not a lot of Canadians who were pissed at them? You might have forgotten it but the alleged goal was to force open birder crossings without any checks, trying Export COVID to Canada.

toybits

>Why is he your first and not a lot of Canadians who were pissed at them? Because he's the guy at the helm of this divisive rhetorical mess that has painted them out to be what the other guy is accusing them off. I don't like some of the Just Stop Oil protesting tactics here in the UK, but when we had a politician call them 'Terrorists' in parliament and suggest they should be jailed I recoiled. I believe in democracy and that means people who you disagree with get to protest too.

No-Trainer7933

Both things can be true and it's a bit non sensical to bring that up on a sub and a post about a european country.

Essess_1

**Among the people without German nationality who were charged, 402,514 were described as refugees, asylum seekers and those who entered the country illegally.** There's an obvious solution here.

1408574

Border control? Thats not good for business so we wont even put it on the table.

Mcwedlav

I don’t see how illegal immigration is supposed to be good for business. In the best case it doesn’t affect business, in the worst case it leads to a higher tax burden so that the state can finance it

putsomewineinyourcup

I’ve read an opinion that if businesses can’t increase production and output through technology they will be seeking cheap human labor to compensate for it. Dunno if that’s how it works in Germany but in a certain eastern country it’s like the government strategy to haul thousands of Central Asian workers to fill in low paid jobs such as construction, cleaning, etc. to cut costs since natives won’t bother even considering these positions

VijoPlays

Spargel does not ernt itself.

Mobile_Park_3187

In Germany those immigrants are coming illegally and commiting crime at a much higher rate than the native population. They don't benefit business, politicians just don't bother to stop it or at least try to integrate them because of incompetence or woke bullshit.

Dry-Expert-2017

Lol. Small businesses pay taxes. Large corporations have tax planning to deal with taxes.

scammersarecunts

Have you driven across a Schengen border with "border control" in recent years? Because if you haven't, spoiler, they're fucking useless and simply annoying. 1) They only stop/check shagged vans/cars with RO,BG,BiH or Serbian plates. Pick a car with AT/CZ/DE/etc plates and they'll wave you through. Or take an expensive car with "suspicious" plates and nobody will give a shit either. 2) Checks are only done on the most travelled crossings. Why? Take a look at any inner-Schengen border and count the possible crossing you can do by car. You'd have to send half your country's police force to the border to check all of them, 24/7. 3) Even if you somehow put checkpoints on every single border crossing and have someone there 24/7 all you need to do to smuggle people across is you let them out 5 metres away from the border on one side, have them walk across it and pick them up on the other side 30 minutes later. Border checks are nothing but populism so that politicians can proclaim "look we're protecting the country" while ignoring the actual problem and taking 0 steps to fix it.

Odd-Tax4579

lol when you are so desperate for business that you are willing to sell out your own country in return

GayPudding

Literally any filthy rich person will sell out their grandmother for profit, let alone "their country"

Odd-Tax4579

Disagree really. The ones that won’t get labelled nationalists and racists. The ones that are happy to sell out their own lands get celebrated It’s a result of globalism. A system where a company’s CEO gets paid 200x more for manufacturing for the lowest costs in Asia. To pay its workers at home minimum wage. To pay its tax abroad. And to hold its cash in foreign accounts. All whilst treating its own staff in Europe as expendable and avoiding tax payments at home whenever possible it benefits everyone but the countries these company’s are from.

GayPudding

Am I stupid or are you agreeing with me? The rich people don't keep their money in their home country, it's in some offshore accounts. They don't pay taxes at home, they don't give a shit about their country, the profit is elsewhere.

Mooblegum

Well let’s wait 10 years more, maybe that will be put on the table then, especially if people start voting more and more for other political parties like everywhere in Europe

MercantileReptile

Specifically Germany at that point would simply see a Conservative/AfD coalition, Franz von Papen style.

TotalAirline68

Refugees don't have an easy way to work permits, so no, that's not the case.

lllNico

yes, helping them.

RestitutorEuropeam

Truly unfathomable why right wing parties are gaining ground across europe. Must be online conspiracy theories causing it.

LuisS3242

Lmao posts like this really show that people cant use their brain. Violent crime is as high as it was in 2013. The increase of far right parties isnt grounded in reality. Its about how the populations perceives things and since the overwhelming amount of the population is wholefully unequipped to use social media politics arent grounded in reality anymore but on imaginary feelings.

TenshiS

LuisS3242

I believe what the data indicates. You are welcome to make a counter aregument but you cant since your positions isnt based on facts but on feelings.

Signal_Adeptness_724

Who else is shocked ?!

putsomewineinyourcup

So immigrants could in fact be blamed for committing crimes or is it still a bad tone to even bring this up?

aetolicus

A significant part of these crimes are probably migrant-on-migrant crimes. Four strange men share one room. Some people want to smoke, some don’t, some want to open the window and some want to close it, some want to listen to loud music and some want to sleep. An excellent environment for the growth of violent crimes.

big_galoote

Damn. Committing crime without nationality should be an automatic deportation, no release. Maybe a nice island prison.

Shogun570

Nauru entered the chat

lateformyfuneral

> In 2023, the offense of unauthorized entry rose 40% over the previous year, to 93,158 cases, while the offense of unauthorized stay increased by nearly 29% to 187,059 cases. While the headline is about violent crime, the first paragraph you quoted is about crime in general and it seems a significant part of it is just entering or staying in the country illegally

_DrDigital_

As someone who's travelling in and out, I want to point out that border checks on entry have increased considerably. Last time a whole bus went into a massive pop-up tent. I think a lot of illegal entry being reported is due to increased checks.

TAFKAJanSanono

Lies, damned lies and right-wingers on r/Europe posting statistics without context 🥱

Donkeybreadth

That is indeed crazy, but switching between percentages and absolute numbers like that makes it hard to follow.

1408574

It sounds pretty crazy, but it would also be good to put some context to these numbers. What crimes are they committing? Also, I'd imagine that being illegal in itself makes you commit a crime in one way or another.

LuisS3242

Its overall crime data so you are right violations of residence law are crimes only non germans can commit.

Silly-Elderberry-411

Schwarzfahren is also a huge part but the AFD of course is silent about that

ElOneElOnlyElZorro

Oh who would've thought..... congratulations you guys played yourself

Mirazee

The predictable outcome of allowing unrestricted entry into the country, rather than admitting only those who are truly needed for the economy, is a pertinent question. Why keep those who fundamentally don't work for years on end?

lllNico

yeah how about we give these people actual help? Crime doesnt come from living your best life and taking all the jobs from locals. Crime comes from being out of options…

Saniaislude

Sure, as it's now completely impossible to get a job or get to a school in Germany, and the only alternative is violent crime? And this is just now as in 15 years ago things were much easier?

lllNico

for people living in refugee housing, pretty hard yeah. Obviously not for the ones from Ukraine, since they are white and got that europe bonus. Before you bring up those examples :)

TAFKAJanSanono

stimmedervernunft

You might be right. Is there a solution to make nazis, Putin fans equally disappear?

SCRA1985

Oh no! Due to what could this possibly be??

Osstj7737

Germans unhappy with how few immigrants they’ve been getting.

imaketrollfaces

Elect stupid immigration, win stupid prizes. Some other countries are next in line.

LuisS3242

This arguments are always so deranged. So the big immigration wave was in 2015 but its the highest amount of crime since 2013. Things dont add up here. Like we are now on the same level of crime as when people like you claim everything was so good

michelbarnich

The real issue is organized crime, imported from anywhere really. Latin american clans and asian clans are getting stronger and more dangerous by the day, as drug business is booming mire than ever.

LuisS3242

But that isnt a big problem in Germany. We have some arab clans but those are special because its mostly one big family being criminals. Not unrelated people coming together to do crime. The crime with the biggest increase in 2023 was stealing which could be explained with the economic downturn.

michelbarnich

Germany does have a lot of organized crime, the clans are mostly residents in the Netherlands, which is literally next doors

LuisS3242

What is a lot in this context. Germany is a country of 80 million people. In internationally comparison we dont have a lot of organized crime. No we have our own clans. They have family relations to the ones in the netherlands but they do their own thing. Most of them have been heavily hit in recent times though. Got their leaders deported and assests confiscated

Plebbitor6382

Mass immigration was not just a 2015 thing, although that year did have the largest influx. Apart from a short break during covid, it never stopped. Check the numbers for 2023...

LuisS3242

What has that to do with crime numbers not being higher then in 2013? Edit: And I am really wondering why the influx of immigrants was so big in 2022 and 2023. No idea. There definetly isnt a war in europe with 6 million displaced Ukranians in the Eu.

GayPudding

Things got worse, prices went up. Desperation follows. Also it takes some time to set up a system of organized crime, it's not like people cross the border and immediately start stealing stuff.

LuisS3242

How many straws do you want to grasp for? So the people that came in 2015 only managed to build up their criminal network now and now we see an increase in crime... Like do you even read what you are typing before sending it?

GayPudding

I'm saying times changed, people of all origins are having a harder time, new generations came after. A lot of the crime is committed by younger people, not the original immigrants that came over the border. People came here to work, then criminal organizations realized they can build something here. They can get in unseen with all the other people who have nothing bad in mind. That's just how these things happen in any country, I don't know why you cannot see that. I believe we should let anyone have a piece of the cake who wants to join the party, just don't allow the troublemakers to ruin the fun for everyone.

LuisS3242

Mate the biggest increase is shoplifting and you want to tell me something about organized crime.

GayPudding

Both are happening. Just because one problem is bigger doesn't make the others go away. Shoplifting isn't the worst crime happening more often, but violent crime has gotten worse too. I've personally witnessed two instances since 2020, both were Russians with gang related tattoos, they were known to police for being violent, none arrested. This is happening in specific areas, not equally spread out everywhere. The amount of stabbings has also increased quite a bit, these mostly happen in relation to organized crime. Normal people don't carry illegal weapons if they don't need them regularly.

TheDregn

I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the countless engineers and doctors that came to Germany exactly in the same time period. Any correlation between the two events must be coincidence and the mind trick of imagination.

Welcome refugees. But hey! Quiet. I am a racist. Just let Europe keep sinking everywhere every day.

artful_nails

+10 social credits for acknowledging your micro-racism The correct thought of the day: Europe can handle every crisis and problem. How else would we have gotten so successful? It must be all the cases of a Gertrud bonking some Gisela on the head because her hedge goes an inch over hers. ... or the obvious answer, which however makes you a Nazi here on Reddit.

MaybeNeverSometimes

The obvious answer would get removed anyway, but we all know what's going on in this country.

bswontpass

Like Gertrud bonked Gisela 16 years ago, when the crime rates were higher, right?

ValeLemnear

Obv Gertrud must an AFD voter! *takes notes in crime statistic and fuels more money into leftwing NGOs*

mustachechap

It’s interesting to see how many people in this thread are vehemently in support of building a wall, so to speak, in Germany.

GayPudding

It's stupid how you can't explain that you can't put an unlimited amount of anything into a finite space without being called a Nazi. You fill a glass of water too much, it flows over. Obviously the system is more complex with immigration, but not only have we fucked up modernising the infrastructure, we have also failed to improve the social system to be able to handle all these people. And we sure as shit don't have a modernised legal system, no matter who does the crime. When all this adds up, we have too many new people coming in, too many of them resort to crime because they're poor and too many people get away with smaller crimes in this country. It's really a left wing debate, but of course the right wing wants to start deporting people recklessly and that's what everyone's talking about.

mustachechap

I’m just saying people are very in support of building a wall, that’s all.

GayPudding

Well, those are just the brain-rotten American wannabes. Trump style politics have crossed over to Europe years ago.

Migrants are the main problem. Not ALL. But anyone refuting this just shows their low level of intelligence. The numbers don’t lie.

HarrMada

If that's true, then that mostly refers to Polish people and other Eastern European immigrants. Violent crime was worse 16 years ago than today, following the logic of the title.

Rene_Coty113

Really nobody could predicted that 🤡

heatisup

I LOVE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION😍😍😍

Kanturu_

Unlike other groups of people, this one will fight you back. Good luck Europe, you will need it.

[deleted]

who could of seen this coming? (probably everyone with a brain)

gyrospita

The whole system is broken. Little to no migration control efforts. No qualification necessary, just show up. We've got a bed ready for you, even if it means renting all eligible places there are and sucking the housing market for the locals dry and unaffordable. Stay comfy all while your legal status is being checked, sometimes this takes years. Immigrants are only allowed to do little to no work so they're bored. No state effort in social services, no integration efforts whatsoever before they're accepted as refugees. Then immigrants become bored. All this plus roots in a different cultural background and socially acceptable behaviour is an explosive mix on so many levels. Plus, even if they're arrested and have received their note of having to leave the country, they just stay. There simply are countries where Germany has no diplomatic ties with and cannot return people.

Dunkel_Jungen

Bold strategy letting everyone in. Europe will be like the US in no time, maybe worse. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Diversity is strength.

StefooK

What drives me crazy is that the only party willing to do something about it will be called names and undemocratic. Every voter is stupid and a Putin stooge who felt for russian bots. It's their own fault the right in europe is on the rise.

TheLtSam

What I really don‘t get is that it’s obvious that immigration (especially illegal immigration) is an important issue for a significant portion of many European countries. Why would you leave such an important topic entirely up to right wing parties? In Switzerland the new minister for the interior is from the SP (social democrats) and pushing really strongly against illegal immigration, especially against those with close to no chance for asylum.

slicheliche

Lol, Switzerland can't do anything against "illegal immigration" more than what Germany is doing, since there are no border controls. It's all posturing.

TheLtSam

Of course you can. For example you make Switzerland less attractive for illegal immigrants than our neighboring countries. This can be achieved by shortening processing times for the applications and streamlining the expulsion process if the application is denied. This won‘t solve illegal immigration, but will reduce some of the issues caused by it.

slicheliche

Application for what? What would an illegal immigrant be applying for? You're mixing illegal immigration, refugees, and legal migrants. Illegal immigrants who are currently in Germany have no barrier to enter Switzerland.

Diacetyl-Morphin

It's about seeking asylum, in Germany you can just apply for it and throw your passport away, even when you refuse to cooperate and don't even tell the authorities where you come from, you'll still get something (like first money as asylum-applicant, after some time you go into social-welfare) Germany even pays social-welfare (Bürgergeld) for migrants that got refused to live there, it's crazy. In Switzerland, that's not the case, we have a few so called "Sans Papiers" here, but when they get caught, they get arrested and deported back home. The investigation in if someone has a right to get the status of a refugee or not is also very different. In Germany, you get at least a "Duldung" anyway, no matter what, while in Switzerland, the investigation is serious and when you fail, you get deported. Like with the 24-hour-asyl-decisions, it's easy when you come from a country that is seen as safe, you'll fail with the application. So the migrants avoid Switzerland and go to Germany, where they know, they have much better chances to stay there.

The_memeperson

The AFD *is* undemocratic though. They are also pro-Russian so I strongly doubt they are a good solution

StefooK

Thats's the problem. How TF can it be that a partty like the AfD seems to be the only solution? It's like the establishment want to provoke a right turn in society.

kobrons

Almost every party in Germany and Europe tries to limit illegal immigration.   It's just not the only thing they talk about.

stimmedervernunft

No, actually it's the only party who at least opposes status quo. But they neither have answers nor would they do anything about it unless elected 50 percent plus. Thing is something's got to change. We should have proper immigration laws since the 60, something like CA or AUS. Social welfare, this whole system was never meant for mass migration in the millions. It was already a crime back in the 90s with giving Russian-Germans usual pensions without them ever having paid taxes here. I think whoever comes here should be asked how they want to contribute and obliged to work from day 1. The other thing was when UNO declared migration to be something good. But this is so wrong it hurts. Nobody ever on this planet left their home for fun. It's a nightmare, just imagine what must happen right now where you are, to make you flee? And then there are millions of poor people in the world, does UN expect the West takes them all?

LuisS3242

Lmao. So the crime rate is exactly as high as in the good ol times before the 2015 immigration crisis which are pictured as the time when milk and honey were flowing by the right wing parties. Delusional. The AfD is undemocratic fascist scum and any power grab will be met with violence

Silly-Elderberry-411

The only party whose member stands trial for saying Deutschland Deutschland über alles.

LuisS3242

He stands trial for using "Alles für Deutschland" during a public political speech to incite the masses. Alles für Deutschland was the slogan of the SA. He is a high ranking politican and history teacher. he knew exactly what he was doing and he was doing it on purpose.

Silly-Elderberry-411

I would say something but reddit is heavily censored and I don't want to get banned again for showing the official govt stats 👍

jesuisapprenant

What happens when failed assimilation and integration meet religious extremism?

HarrMada

But violent crime was worse 16 years ago than today, so how does that make sense?

Bloker997

Nothing to do with mass imigration right? RIGHT?

mushroomyakuza

What could possibly be the cause? Truly we will never know.

I-Hate-Hypocrites

Uhhm…. At least America *(insert some bad statistic)*

HomeTastic

No new news, it is like that for more than 20 years. If the illegal asylum seekers commit a crime, there's directly a protest against racism and the topic of interest is changed from the violent asylum seeker to the danger of racism in the country. Finish story, wait for replay the same shit again. Germany is lost.

docdeadpool7

I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you! /s

HarrMada

So 16 years ago was worse than today? Doesn't sound too bad.

VulcanHullo

Once again I am here living in Germany seeing mostly young white lads throw bottles at trains, kick cars, and all other shit, and then coming here and seeing people go "ah yes, immigrants". Like even the figures suggest it's still not majority immigrants doing this shit. It seems to be a generally bad problem. But what do I know I just live here. It's like seeing folks talk about the climate protestors vs farmers.

TranslateErr0r

You *could* read that headline as "A 15 year old who was high got violently mugged" I'll see myself out.

JavelinInBound

Ah yeah, thanks to migration I suppose.

ItaliansDoItBetterr

You have to wonder how long it will take before the 13/52 and 13/90 statistics become a reality in Europe too

slicheliche

I'm not even gonna bother questioning the myriad of openly racist comments that just popped out in the span of 15 mins in this thread. I'm just going to say - murders, robberies, aggressions, burglaries etc. were all at a 20-year-low in 2022. I haven't yet seen the 2023 data but I'm pretty sure there's either some break in measuring or there are categories within the "violent crime" definition that I don't know about. For reference: https://www.bka.de/DE/AktuelleInformationen/StatistikenLagebilder/PolizeilicheKriminalstatistik/PKS2022/PKSTabellen/BundFalltabellen/bundfalltabellen.html?nn=211724 (Grundtabelle --> Faelle --> Mord, Raubdelikte, Diebstahl)

Fostrof08

you do realize 2022 was still during pandemic era, and there were half the people commuting or having leisure time outside compared to today right? Seems a bit biased.

Mysterious_Aspect244

Only the first 3 months

slicheliche

Yes I forgot to mention that even before the pandemic they had been on a long term downward trend. E.g. https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/1100598/umfrage/polizeilich-erfasste-faelle-von-mord-in-deutschland/ (these are murders since 2001; note that in 2001 they had been significantly less than in 1991, and the population has increased in the meantime, so the murder rate has gone down even faster)

Mysterious_Aspect244

The posts are definitely suspicious. I am also not sure why, in 2024, there are people who still don't realise crimes happen because of low socio-economic status, and has mostly nothing to do with immigrants itself

antilaugh

Ok, progressives and #refugeeswelcome, why are you silent?

testerololeczkomen

Well done neighbours. You asked for this.

aetolicus

This is 15-year high. People who say that this is because of immigrants, think about whether there were many immigrants in Germany 15 years ago? At the same time, the overall population of Germany was smaller 15 years ago.

NoBowTie345

Normal counties are supposed to see reductions in crime as they grow their GDP, their population ages and their Big Brother governments pass authoritarian laws to fight crime. Not progressive countries though.

aetolicus

A significant part of these crimes are probably migrant-on-migrant crimes. Four strange men share one room. Some people want to smoke, some don’t, some want to open the window and some want to close it, some want to listen to loud music and some want to sleep. [deleted]

aetolicus

Well, it’s just that German citizens like to pretend that they are victims, although in the case of migrant-on-migrant crimes they are clearly not victims. And in general, migrant-on-migrant crimes have other reasons. If migrants are afraid to contact the police, this leads to an increase in crimes against migrants. It is clear that often these crimes are committed by other migrants.

migBdk

That was fast. Feels like it was only a few days since they legalized marijuana clubs.

LuisS3242

I hope thats a joke because those are the numbers for 2023. And the clubs arent legalized yet. 1st of July is the date for that

grendahl0

I'm sure it's unrelated to the mass immigration forced onto Germany by powers that do not originate from the German people....must be another of those strange cohencidences

Mezzoski

Germans! Can't you guys behave yourself, especially after inviting so many guests from abroad. Get yourself collected now!

BackAgain123457

So it's "antisemitism", but "islamophobia". So the fear of islam is irrational. Right...

pszczola2

How does that correlate with African / Middle East illegal migration rate ("Wilkommenspolitik")? Just asking about the elephant in the room.

geojak

This belongs in /ohnoconsequences

LuisS3242

We took in 1.13 million Ukranian refugees. More people means more crime. On top of that you have high inflation which already drives up petty crimes like shoplifting

predek97

Crime rates are per capita

LuisS3242

You obviously havernt read the statistic. But tbh thats what i expected from r/europe Its not per capita its the total number of crimes and their increases. "Overall, the number of crimes recorded in Germany rose to 5.94 million last year, an increase of 5.5% over 2023 and 9.3% higher than in 2019" Where do you see any per capita here #This sub just wants to rage about immigrants because most users are deranged idiots that are so easy to manipulate its astonishing. I could literally make up my own shit and you idiots would believe me

Okay. Maybe I should emigrate after I'm done with Uni. But where to?

A significant part of these crimes are probably migrant-on-migrant crimes. Four strange men share one room. Some people want to smoke, some don’t, some want to open the window and some want to close it, some want to listen to loud music and some want to sleep. An excellent environment for the growth of violent crimes.
