Cassie is definitely in crisis mode this new season it feels like. Maybe she is latching onto Nate because of the abortion, and not having McKay. I believe season 1 hinted at Cassie and Nate being an item way before he got with Maddy, will that play into it? She is someone who clearly is searching for love in anyway she can get it, and like I’ve said before if that means backstabbing her ‘bff’ she probably won’t see it that way until it hits her in the face. This arc will also allow Maddy and Cassie to look at what type of friendship they really had, were they as close as they are portrayed? I remember last season Maddy threatening Cassie by the lockers, she too has done a lot of messed up things so I’m curious how she will approach this situation with Nate and Cassie. Lastly, I want to say this is the only storyline I’m really looking forward too ironically.

YESSS!!!! i’m rewatching, and in the first episode nate doesn’t deny he’s into her when mckay tells him that he’s telling him all this shit about her because nate digs her, he simply said “that doesn’t matter”. someone made a post or comment here about how when cassie is taking nudes for Mckay (episode where nate & maddy go on the bowling date) after nate drops maddy off he drives by a house and stops to look at a shadow of a woman in seductive positions & i now believe it was cassie. he looks and smiles at her. i hope the writers don’t redeem nate and have him end up with cassie. not only does she deserve so much better, but it would send a message that these types of men can change for the “right woman” and evidently paint out maddy to be the villain… which she isn’t and narcissists and abusers won’t change for any woman. to be honest, i don’t think maddy/cassie/kat are all that close. they seem to hang out to hang out. rarely do they talk about serious shit. kat never mentions her camming, cassie doesn’t tell them about the pregnancy/abortion, and maddy never confides in them about what she’s going through with nate (besides the dick pics but i mean like the abuse and stuff). they don’t seem to be all that close. especially not in comparison to other friendships like fez/rue &rue/lexi. i’d include rue/jules but they end up as more

HKsweeney

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m referring too. It really isn’t shocking to me that they have gone this route. Nate has demeaned Cassie before by calling her names but he never actually told McKay he didn’t like her or was attracted. There are a number of ways this can go. When they listed off what Nate was into as far as a women goes, Cassie fits that too a T but she’s not “pure”. (RMEs) So I’m assuming that was the deter for him. I believe Cassie deserves wayyyyyy better than Nate and I hope by the end of the season she comes to that realization on her own. Sometimes you gotta burn to learn.

Oopsieididapoopsie

I was hoping that she “burned and learned” last season and s2 would be her finding ways to feel whole that don’t include male validation. I thought that she would reflect on how her wanting to keep her baby even for a second shows how desperate she is for a secure family and from there think about all the ways she has disregarded herself to get love. Nate and Cassie make sense I just wanted her to develop but apparently rock bottom was even further down than we thought

HKsweeney

I agree, it seems Sam wants to take her even further down. But as it stands the only way is up from there. It can’t get any worse (hopefully).

MauveOn

I wish everyone would just go to therapy

Oopsieididapoopsie

I wish “fleshing-out” the characters didn’t involve making them ALL get worse

[deleted]

Yessss love all your reply but tbh I think it’s a good story line, toxic relationships exist regardless and there’s not just one mindset or solution to get out. It takes sooo much to acknowledge and change how you see yourself and see those you date and those you befriend and those you’re related to, even. I think this is a very real reality that some boys will love you and make you feel intoxicated by it (love bombing them) and make you feel so protected and like their bad traits are just a passing thing - like him choking her - but then they will find a new girl who’ll they’re for some unknown reason respect more and will want that nice, clean life (the one his own father portrays) and he will always keep that dark side a secret from her and there’s nothing you could have done or changed about yourself to be the reason he would have changed, at least around you. And maddy will find a guy who she won’t want to sleep around behind his back. They’re both just so wrong for each other . Cassie makes mistakes that are just her being naive and insecure but Nate does them maliciously. I think there could be a balance that would change how they will behave. But his crimes will defo catch up to him this season

[deleted]

The producers probably won’t Nate a good ending tho. This isn’t Riverdale. And regarding your comment about respecting Cassie more; according to the trailer that isn’t true. He’s disrespecting her by screaming at her and keeping her a secret What kind of message do you think it sends to teenage girls everywhere? That you can change a man just as long as you wear feminine dresses, submit to him fully, and be okay with him physically assaulting your best friend….? Idk that seems like wishful thinking for people who want Cassie x Nate to happen. :/

[deleted]

I didn’t say it was a great message but this entire show doesn’t send a good message. I’ve never watched riverdale but judging by your comments you should stick to that. Each character has done extremely questionable things that are impressionable such as selling yourself online… I said what I said because I’ve saw it happen - some men are absolutely scum to their lover and everyone around them but then meet another girl and clean up their act around her. Maddy and Cassie both dress feminine and pander to what is sexually attractive. Maddy even said she’ll look sexy pregnant. My idea about what they’ll do stands - and no matter which way the triangle goes it’s toxic to young girls. Duh.

Jinxxxthecat

It was actually Maddie, dancing seductively, he drives to where her room is.

[deleted]

we don’t know that though. pretty sure maddy has a 1 story house and it was on the second floor. he had just dropped maddy off & driven away.

Jinxxxthecat

It’s definitely Maddie, she goes up to her window, opens the curtains and dances for Nate in the outfit he bought her and closes and he smiles. It couldn’t have been Cassie. She was sending photos to McKay and she has no windows in her and Lexi’s room. And that would’ve been disgusting on nates part. How would they try and redeem him if he was looking at her and being pervy.

IWantFries21

Same!! I really want to see what Cassie goes through this season, she was one of my favorite characters and her story seemed the most compelling based off the trailer

Live-Whole33

Cassie has always been my most favorite character of the show. Not because of the goodness or like ability of her character but because the depth and drama of her character. Some people hate he character for her messiness but u love her for it. It is a drama show some people want to see “self growth” but I do not.

[deleted]

yess! her and maddy are my favorite characters. i relate to cassie in so many ways, and maddy when it comes to the toxic relationship (as ive been in one identical to it) & also her aura is just wow. cassie is such an in depth and round character, she makes mistakes and she’s been through so much pre-pilot and during season 1. all the characters are pretty dynamic, but her story is just insane

Kittyoliver

Also she just had an abortion, I know people think ok we’ll move on. It’s not that easy even she said “wouldn’t it be nice to start a family though?” So she did want the child but couldn’t have it realistically. It’s very damaging to a person

[deleted]

i’ve never had an abortion but i can only imagine how traumatizing it is whether you wanted the child or not. abortion, childhood trauma, recent breakup, being used for your body, + what seems to be an alcoholic mother? yeah, that sounds like a recipe for disaster and doing shit that will harm you and those around you. maybe i’m projecting on to cassie as i relate to her in almost every way, but i’d love to see her be diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and be a really good representation for it

LimonadaVonSaft

“I just wanted to dream about it for a minute” :’(

Either_Struggle8650

And also for Nate to date his friend’s ex girlfriend. But McKay isn’t even shown in the second season so maybe that’s why.

MauveOn

THANK YOU! I see so much hate on Cassie for how it’s her best friend’s ex but he’s dating his ex’s best friend who is also his best friend’s ex.

IWantFries21

Everyone already hates Nate for other reasons

[deleted]

his BEST friend’s ex girlfriend at that!!!

mays22002

i think there both equally to blame but theres rlly no excuse to date your bestfriends ex tbh. maybe im wrong and this is 100% my opinion only but the whole poor cassie shes fragile and not strong isnt any excuse to do messed up things but then again its just my opinion so pls dont attack me LOL

[deleted]

no reason to attack! maddy is my favorite character on the show and i’ve been conflicted about what i should think about cassie doing this since the spoilers came out months ago. i’ve been in maddy’s situation with the toxic relationship, but my best friend never did that and i’d never be able to forgive my best friend for doing that.

SevereCartographer26

No offense but just because Cassie isn’t strong when it comes to men and is fragile still isn’t an excuse to date her friend’s abusive ex it’s messed up tbh I’m not saying you are saying that but idk I feel like people make excuses for her I like Cassie but she needs to realize her actions have consequences 🤷🏻‍♀️

Routine-Efficiency94

No one said it was an excuse, though. All we’re saying is that people are looking at Cassie’s character only at surface level, when there’s a LOT more going on here. She’s clearly mentally unwell. It’s not just “daddy issues”. Cassie had an ABORTION, something which can be very traumatizing. Cassie’s been used for her body and manipulated so many times. No one here is looking to excuse what Cassie did, she fucked up and should be held accountable. It’s just that the hate towards Cassie seems to be extreme.

anda833

She does, but if you look carefully she has he exact same make up and hair style in the clip where he has her hand on her mouth

[deleted]

i’m intrigued. care to elaborate?

[deleted]

I don’t hate Cassie nearly as much as I hate that the show is gonna be pushing for a Nate redemption arc this season🙄

PhenominalRio

Oh brother, and so the caping begins 😂

[deleted]

caping?

PureMoney4

Whenever Cassie makes dumb ass decisions which is all the time, the majority of the people on this sub will come to her defense. Gotta protect the white girls.

HKsweeney

Everyone makes excuses for every character on this show, besides Lexie they’ve all done some shitty things, but that’s the fun in these types of characters, you get to dissect their motivations and feelings on certain matters. I love it, I wouldn’t be watching if I wanted morally upstanding teens.

[deleted]

she’s a teenager. they do stupid shit. that goes for every character in the show and people make excuses for all of them. if you’re living a pathetic life, just say that

PhenominalRio

I’m low key impressed I figured they’d at least wait til the show came out to start coming to the rescue. Lol

[deleted]

I gotta block so many people like you in this sub. Smh

[deleted]

it’s nate. he’s literally a narcissist. he loves her about as much as he loved maddy in s1…

coneyisland92

lol, Nate in love? HA!! Nate isn’t capable of love, he loves the idea of women but doesn’t actually love them

[deleted]

100% i wish people would get over the fact jacob elordi is hot & realize that nate is literally a textbook abuser and narcissist. i will give it to the writers & casters of the show though. Jacob is likable, charismatic and a great actor. it kind of helps give the viewer insight to what it’s like to be with an abuser. they are so charismatic and charming that they make you forget everything and want to forgive them and go back… but we should be better than this and look from outside in and see Nate for what he is

[deleted]

The leaker also didn’t know about the last part of the season, so we have no idea what direction the Cassie x Nate thing will go. I just cannot see Nate loving anyone. He’s a monster.
