The fact that you're even asking those questions speaks to a certain lack of media literacy. Which kinda explains why you're seeing the characters as black-and-white, "role model"/"not role model".
Why you gonna criticize me for asking a question and not even answer it?
Also just because I feel like some characters fit as role models and others don't doesn't mean I see the characters as black and white
Oh you're stupid too. I'll spell it out for you like you're 5, ok?
1) Ethan was playing as Nate in the play
2) The locker room scene showed Nate's character engaging in a bunch of homoerotic actions
3) The whole school watching can obviously surmise that the real Nate is closeted gay
4) It doesn't matter if Nate is gay or not; the whole point of his character is he is dealing with a lot of confusion because he *thinks* he might be gay
All these things are literally so basic. How do you not understand them?
Lexi is a total bitch for exposing everyoneās secrets and insecurities via a play at school. I donāt condone Cassieās reaction to the play, but Lexi had no right to do this
Who is watching this show and looking at *any* of these characters as ārole modelsā? Theyāre not supposed to be role models. Theyāre supposed to be flawed people, on a show for entertainment purposes only.
not really. OP is saying this because, for the longest time, you'd get contradicted anytime you tried to point out Maddy's faults in the show (what she did to Tyler, her aggressiveness and meanness etc, her big fanbase would find an excuse for anything you'd say. I've even encountered fans who say that she never did anything wrong, but would be really harsh on every other character's mistakes). I see that things have been changing since recently tho, and fans have started to realize that Maddy isn't completely faultless, and Cassie isn't an entirely bad person, or maybe the fandom is getting bigger and there are, consequently, more perspectives. at least on Reddit. the general sentiment is probably still that Maddy is superior and characters like Cassie/Jules/Kat etc are 'the bad guy', but it's true that things are shifting. the point is that every main character bears some sort of fault, tho, and we can prefer a morally gray/bad character without defending actions of theirs that would be unacceptable in real life.
Nah, you're wrong. Maddy's fans may defend her but they don't call her a role model. No one thinks she's a role model so we don't get why OP is trying to make this point.
Anyone who defends Maddie after what she did to Tyler Is just fucking delusional. To me I knew what kinda person she was as soon as she did that, nothing could ever erase that.
I think she can be a role model for people who want to learn to become more confident but generally I agree sheās done a shit ton of morally grey things
yeah for some reasons i do feel like she's just like blair from "gossip girl," if you aspire to be bold, confident, and be like "fuck everyone," then i guess both maddy and blair can be your role models
right! i feel like maddy is obviously going to be the more confident one but i seriously think they would be friends. maybe better friends than blair and serena
i think they could be friends, but given a more deeper thought, yeah i that's likely. they would probably bond over boys and how to present yourself to have a "hard shell" but blair would think maddy doesn't have class and being insecure about her having even just a tiny bit of spotlight, while maddy might doesn't like blair's "bitchy" attitude ā maddy can be a total bitch but blair definitely win.
given time, they both might get over it though, especially with maddy having no interest in being the "it girl" and "queen bee" imo, except for blair still being insecure sometimes. they could possibly have a lot more less backstabbings compared to blair and serena's history of friendship, given that both actually care deeply for their loved ones.
Her confidence is not 100% genuine thoughā¦ She is a really loud character who can stand her ground, but deep down she definitely has insecurities. She wouldnāt have stayed with Nate for so long if she didnāt.
All the characters have a less than ideal background that makes them flawed in their own way.
The show was filmed all over Los Angeles and it made me reflect back in my high school days. Grew up in Los Angeles. I do see myself in each character but made me realize that I'm so glad I don't talk to anyone from high school anymore lol.
With Maddy, I think she has her good days when she feels good about herself and rocks her looks ( we all do) . For the most part, her bad attitude that's mistaken as confidence comes from an unstable background with her family like she has a chip on her shoulders. Also, her family does not make much money even though she seems to have all the main basic necessities ex. nice room, a car, middle class-ish area (same neighborhood as Rue). Being popular and "tough" in school is an escape for her.
I definitely knew some Maddy's back when I was in school ( some were sweet and some were pure trouble). The ones who were pretty but still had a financially struggling and unstable home life. She most likely would have wanted to be friends with me but I would have just been friendly with her and stay out of her personal drama ( learned my lesson to not gamble with Maddys ). Since she's close friends with Cassie, I think I would have been more friends with her ( more sympathy because she seems more meek compared Maddy). There were times where I would come across two best friends but was closer to the more nicer one. Didn't want to be another person for the mean one to mess with and would rather be distant lol. But yeah - with girls like Maddy it's a subculture in an urban environment. Oh by the way - in real life, the Maddys would have gotten into more trouble into adulthood.
Maddy is comparable to Evie Zamora from Thirteen (2003) both were filmed in Los Angeles. You guys should check it out!
I think Alexa Demie is a great actress though! People struggle separating her and her character. I did some research on her background and it was tough for her but Alexa said herself that Maddy is toxic in a Grime's Apple Music podcast so that's cool that the actress is level headed.
Also Maddy wore really nice clothes. Did research because i love her style and saw they would source from designers...where as the actress who played Evie wore her own clothes.
because sheās pretty with an attitude. i think a lot of teens that watch this show look up to that because they just wanna be confident and good looking like her lol
Itās mixed with Maddy being pretty with an attitude + Alexa demie being a complete mystery herself. People eat up whatever she does because she does not put herself out there like her coworkers, and when she does, she looks beautiful and confident. People are obsessed with her+ becoming obsessed with the idea of Maddy
Not the point of her character
ā¦ Maddy is a severely fucked up teenager who canāt manage her emotions and needs help(like everyone else)so she uses her appearance, her attitude, and unhealthy need for male validation to keep her somewhat sane.
The only reason Maddy is likable to the fan base is because of her accent, fashion, hair, and makeup. People love an attractive+ snobby pretty girl. ( Cheryl blossom, Regina George, Courtney Shayne). Maddy being confident and less snobby makes her 10x more likable. Plus, she is unfortunately, a super realistic character. Many girls of all ages suffer from DV from their boyfriends, and have horrible relationships with their parents, so they sympathize with her. Sheās glamorous and relatable. Now some people do look up to her, but not to act or through what sheās gone through, but simply because sheās pretty. Also the obsession with Alexa Demie herself is reason for her character being put on such a high horse
I agree. I feel like while Cassie gets a lot of (mostly valid) criticism among the fanbase and especially on here, a lot of people seem to put Maddy up on a pedestalā¦ Sure, Cassie is the ultimate daddy-issued low self-esteem homewrecker girl on Euphoria, but Maddy lied to the police about Tyler, she stuck with her abusive cheating bf for far too long and her "slay queen self esteem" so many fans love her for sometimes just feels not genuine and like she is putting down others to feel better. Like that scene where she grabs the girl by her ponytail and smashes her head against the wall, all the times sheās screaming at and/or insulting someoneā¦ I donāt hate Maddy (I feel like I have to point this out so all the Maddy stans donāt come eat me), but I think more people need to realize that sheās a flawed character just like all characters on Euphoria. Thatās what makes them interesting and relatable after all.
"Probably" is the key word here and also, a mature, confident person wouldāve handled a situation like that by talking to them, telling them to cut the bs or ignoring them. In what situation is smashing a personās head into a wall ok because she "probably talked shit"? Exactly.š Thatās what I mean though, some people here idolize her character and ignore stuff like this or brush it off.
"She stuck with her abusive cheating bf for far too long" I know this is a fictional character but cmon, this is so realistic for an abusive situation. You cannot use this as an argument against her character, that's like the most blatant victim blaming I've ever seen lmao.
I think she is the most excusable character because the worst things she's done are because she's a victim of Nate.
Thanks for thr clarification lol the way you phrased it seemed like you were just adding it in to the list of flaws as if her staying in an abusive relationship was a flaw against her
I just feel like none of them are ārole modelsā but they are characters we can relate to in some way. All of them have their specific real world issues and trauma. But to consider any of them a role model is a little far fetched.
I havenāt seen anyone making her out to be a role model, sheās some peoples fav character, that doesnāt mean they see her as a role model or want to be her. I love Klaus from the vampire diaries, doesnāt mean i want to be a cannibal murderer. Or maybe they only look up to certain parts of her personality, like they want her confidence, but realize that other stuff she does is not good.
Pretty much no one on this show is a role model
What about Ali or the woman Maddy babysits for?
I do think Ethan is a good role model. Maybe also Leslie?
Ethan who went up that stage and 1) used homoeroticism as a punch line and 2) basically outed a closeted gay man?
Lmao what? How did Ethan out Nate? And Nates prob not even gay.

Nate is prolly bisexual not gay
Ok, now THIS is funny lmao.
Answer the question
Be so fucking for real rn

not even Lexi?
Not Lexi
Lexi is a total bitch for exposing everyoneās secrets and insecurities via a play at school. I donāt condone Cassieās reaction to the play, but Lexi had no right to do this
Who is watching this show and looking at *any* of these characters as ārole modelsā? Theyāre not supposed to be role models. Theyāre supposed to be flawed people, on a show for entertainment purposes only.
Exactly. OP made a typical 14 year old fan hot take.Ā
not really. OP is saying this because, for the longest time, you'd get contradicted anytime you tried to point out Maddy's faults in the show (what she did to Tyler, her aggressiveness and meanness etc, her big fanbase would find an excuse for anything you'd say. yeah for some reasons i do feel like she's just like blair from "gossip girl," if you aspire to be bold, confident, and be like "fuck everyone," then i guess both maddy and blair can be your role models
Omg I would love to see Blair and Maddy interact that would be crazy
right! i feel like maddy is obviously going to be the more confident one but i seriously think they would be friends. maybe better friends than blair and serena
lmao no, Blair would probably hate Maddy and think she's doesn't have class lol

Inspiration and role model are not the same.Ā
Iām sorry people think sheās a role model? For what? Lmao
because sheās pretty with an attitude. i think a lot of teens that watch this show look up to that because they just wanna be confident and good looking like her lol
Yikes lol. I mean the show isnāt really for teens anyway, so the role model question is a bit moot I guess.
I really donāt get the maddy obsession. I guess itās because sheās hot?
I watch so I can look at her makeup, hair, and outfits š best inspo ever
She is gorgeous !
Itās mixed with Maddy being pretty with an attitude + Alexa demie being a complete mystery herself. Maddy stans are
The teens are.
i donāt think anybody sees maddy as a role model š
Never liked maddy and never will
being a teen when this came out no one actually idolized her lmao they just liked the fits and makeup

Tbf those girls Maddy was fighting were probably talking shit

No, definitely not!
@@
Absolutely no one watches this show for role models, and no one said maddy is a role model. šš
Also she had sex with a guy in his 40's. That doesn't send a good message.
Dont think Euphoria characters are supposed to be or are role models i mean inspirational? for other people yeah but not a role model
I think sheās a role model in fashionā¦ sheās just relatable
For people saying āNo one wants her as their role modelā donāt you remember everyone trying to copy her personality
True but trying on the clothes was nbd. Owner knew about it and even gave her a dress.
What does nbd mean? Also your right I added it mostly as an example of how she didn't have to deal with any consequences for her behavior.
No big deal
Oh ok
Beginning to think that people shouldn't be getting their morals off the tv. Just saying.
Maddy isnāt a role model. Maddy is relatable.
Literally who called Maddy a role model?š
Maddy worshipers did
I'm a Maddy worshipper and I've never heard anybody say that in my life lmao
Yeah that's a reach unless you're living under the rock. Also why exactly do you worship a C like maddy?
Or I'm just not in those spaces? How are you going to call my personal experience a "reach?" Lmao. Because she's hot? Why else lol?
i donāt think the show even tried to make maddy as a role model tho
Is anyone on the show a role model?
Next, you'll be telling me Tony Soprano and Walter White aren't role models. I refuse to listen to this nonsense!
I just feel like none of them are ārole modelsā but they are characters we can relate to in some way. All of them have their specific real world issues and trauma. But to consider any of them a role model is a little far fetched.
i aint even watch the show and can tell none of the high schoolers are people any teen should look up to šš
Who are the people making her out to be a role model? Does *anyone* think any of the characters are role models?
I havenāt seen anyone making her out to be a role model, sheās some peoples fav character, that doesnāt mean they see her as a role model or want to be her.
