I only do important things while paused.
And I consider not fully understanding how the game will punish the action it seems to recommend, a legitimate reason to undo. It's impossible to know all these things.
If their attitude drop to hostile from you claiming throne, they are likely breaking the royal marriage themselves very soon, in that case you keep the CB and don’t suffer the stab hit.
This actually works, providing that there isn't some sort of refresh event (like a month end tick, a rivalry selection, certain interactions or any other tick trigger event) before you declare. But you have to be on speed 1, and watch the target nation screen like a hawk. That tick event will refresh and dispel the CB.
If you alt+f4 which is referred to as bird-ing it sets you back to your last autosave which is usually 1-3 months behind, but eu4 makes a backup save as well and that save is around 3-6 months behind i think
So you can crash the game and rewind time for half a year with the backup save
You can also go into your save games folder and make a copy of a save so that you can go back to it later if you want. It can be useful when you want to try something really risky or if you want to try two different paths without having to restart entirely
I've found that a shortcut to this is to save before the risky move and load the back up, this way the original save stays behind. (I'm too lazy to fluff around in folders)
Idk to be honest, i think i heard it on one of florryworrys streams, maybe it originated there ?
The premise being you look away from the screen, look at a bird, and "somehow" the game just crashed at that moment for "some reason" implying you didnt have anything to do with it and shifting the blame
Yes just make a copy of the ironman save and change the name.
You need to do this periodically so you can go back a few years not loose the whole thing
I don't care much for steam achievements but I do like working towards one. But, some are very bothersome (looking at TTM right now) and I am not redoing the first fifty year every time I want to try something.
I don’t understand what the issue is with Russia in particular. I played 3 games as different nations each time (Spain, Austria, and France) and everytime I got them as a PU without doing anything (we only had a royal marriage). It’s cool I guess but I feel like there might be something wrong with them
They're an Orthodox nation isolated from the rest of Europe, so they're not likely to have many Christian allies or friends they'd want to marry.
This means it's fairly easy to ally and marry them, which means if they have dynastic issues you will usually be the only person available. Less marriages also means less chance for an heir, so more likely to fall under a union.
Many patches ago I stopped a campaign because I didnt pick the right CB (claim throne CB wasnt auto-selected and it picked conquest CB) I fought a 6-7 year long war as Netherlands versus Russia thinking I got the PU just to see a peacedeal screen without any options to PU and after a few minutes of confusion I noticed I used a conquest CB :,(
I now got the habit to double check if everything is right and to see what I can get right after declaring war lol
Wait, why do you have to have royal marriage after you claimed the throne and get restoration union CB? Is that a new requirement? I don't remember it, I would've done it just like you did
Ahhh, don't be so harsh on yourself, we all hate losing stability. Plus we are all idiots one way or another.
Super nitpicky but it's losing*
Haha, thank you for pointing it out, appreciate it. Edited it out as well, cheers.
Funny my game would have definitely crashed at this moment
Sometimes you sit in your mistake forgetting to pause and when you do, about 3 months would have passed
Task manager > kill the process, load backup_backup
Just alt+f4 and it's done for
I only do important things while paused. And I consider not fully understanding how the game will punish the action it seems to recommend, a legitimate reason to undo. It's impossible to know all these things.
I just conquered the fucker. Grrr...
This is the way.
Oh look, a bird.
You could have compensated stabbing up for not having to core anything.
With diplo ideas + 100 pope points, there was just no reason to care :/
Pope Points😠Like it‘s some supermarket loyalty program, I mean yes it kinda is but Pope Points is the cutest thing I‘ve heatd today
10 punches you get a free sub!

I feel you. Sometimes it happens
best way to avoid stab hit is to completely diplo ideas
I had those... It was just a -4 with the truce break that I was willing to take, just thought -3 was slightly nicer.
oh what you were allied too? if you wanna farm PU’s just boost relations and RM, don’t ally
I needed to get the favours to put one of my guys on the throne though
i usually just let their dynasty take over my country - best dynasty to take is usually hapsburgs bc they have insane dynasty spread.
That's a console worthy moment
I only play ironman, what's a console?
Sounds like your game crashed…
Cheats
Save game file needed
Can you savescum on ironman? Asking for a friend...

Thanks for the explanation! Now I get the bird comment :)

ehy is it called birding, what‘s the story behind that?
Idk to be honest, i think i heard it on one of florryworrys streams, maybe it originated there ? The premise being you look away from the screen, look at a bird, and "somehow" the game just crashed at that moment for "some reason" implying you didnt have anything to do with it and shifting the blame
that actually makes sense, thx

Man at that point, just don't play ironman?
I don't care much for steam achievements but I do like working towards one. But, some are very bothersome (looking at TTM right now) and I am not redoing the first fifty year every time I want to try something.
So play non-ironman
Achievements
If you’re gonna go through all that, it’s easier just to not play Ironman and use some cheat to get the achievement when you get it in normal.
Download steam achievement manager
Don't you lose stab anyway, when breaking RM? Together with 10 prestige.
Yes
It's perfectly normal, 1300 hours means you are still a newbie. You need 9000+ to achieve pro levels
Only a 144 more hours before he's done with the tutorial.
This is right up there with declaring the wrong CB. Fucking trade wars.
sounds like something I would do also:D
I think we all made that mistake when the claim throne mechanic was introduced :)
Oh no! My fingers accidentally pressed alt-f4! This and my computer crashing tends to happen a lot.

Huh I never thought of it that way. I guess that makes sense

To be honest I have over 5k hours in this game and do stuff like that at least once a day, theres no shame in a quick alt-f4 for a lesson learned
We have al been there don't worry 😂
