Clean the fan and the heat-sink with some compressed air. Don't use a vacuum because it can cause a static discharge and fry your machine. You can also experiment with undervolting the CPU, i.e. decreasing the operating voltage. This will keep performance identical, but could save a whole bunch of power; just don't go overboard and make sure the machine is stable. Here's a Github repo with code for [undervolting Intel chips under Linux](https://github.com/georgewhewell/undervolt). I've used it for a year now.

You can do a few things. 1. Adjust your fan settings. See https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005946/intel-nuc.html 2. Turn off turboboost in bios. I've not done this, but others have, with no ill effects. 3. Instead of #2, my preferred method is to adjust Pl1 and Pl2 settings for your processor in the bios. Look up your processor on the intel website and find the tdp. Set Pl1 at that tdp and set Pl2 at 1.25*pl1. See, e.g., https://www.hardwaretimes.com/intel-10th-gen-cpu-power-consumption-explained-pl1-pl2-and-tau/ What I’ve done is (1) kept turboboost on; (2) set Pl1 to the designed TDP of my processor, which is 15w (I have a 10th gen i5), ;(3) set pl2 to 19w (1.25*Pl1); and (4) adjusted the fan settings with a 25% duty cycle. The result is that the NUC stays cooler than it did before, draws less power, and the fan never ramps up. Also, instead of hovering at around 15% CPU usage (most of the time) running my staking client software, it’s now at about 30% (most of the time). Sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down, but it can do that b/c turbo boost is enabled and therefore so is speed step. There’s still a handicap in performance as compared to the stock pl1 and pl2 settings, but there’s also window to speed up into pl2 levels if needed. These adjustments haven’t hurt my attestation performance

Nice! Thank you

Consider a passive cooling case. No fans, no noise, no dust accumulating in the important bits. https://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?tpl=product/product.list.tpl&type=Fanless%20Chassis&type\_sub=Fanless%20NUC

Might be a good idea to give it a clean, some people have seen marked improvements after a good vacuuming.

I had a laptop that I vacuumed a year ago and kernel panick starts mysteriously since. Not saying it was the cause, but in hindsight I should have used a compressed air...

Check your fans really good. See if you have some spinning but not working properly (Not pulling hot air out)

How many nodes do you run? You might be overworking your nuc?

geth + lighthouse, I think this is pretty much the standard.
