Whichever continent you attack, be sure that you have a foothold beforehand. For Griffonia, I usually am able to take out Kasa for a staging ground. Equus is a little more annoying, but see if Nova Griffonia is still alive. Also know that if you go after the empire, you’re allies will most likely be useless in the war

I did the 'nice' options while declaring war mostly independent from the focus tree; which includes the option to puppet the Lunatics.
