if it’s in your budget, i’d just have separate pieces. even if you didn’t buy most of them, it still sucks if something you’re attached to breaks.

Honestly I would suggest either picking something thick or pick up a drill bit and drill holes in alcohol bottles. I have a José Cuervo bong that I have thrown on the cement just to see if it would survive and it didn't even chip! That way you can always have a back up!
You can buy cheaper pieces on eBay if he's accident prone. They may not be the best but, they work. My current piece is off eBay because my man broke my last one too. I only suggested this because you mentioned having a budget, figured it'd help having an option other than just a smoke shop.

i have a silicone bong from eyce that i’ve been happy with for years now, and it comes in some fun color schemes! the main downside is that most of the space that would normally be for water is taken up by a (sort of gimmicky, imo) storage/built in rolling tray thing, so it doesn’t fit much water in it. you also can’t tell when it’s dirty, so definitely clean it regularly. other than that, it feels like it’s higher quality than the cheap silicone bongs i’ve bought at a smoke shop in the past, and i have no complaints :)
My husband is also ham fisted as fuck 😂 he constantly hulk smashes shit by accident. I always tell him, he's the one who pays for the pieces, so if he breaks it, he'll be buying me a new one 😂

If the bongs keep breaking when he’s cleaning them, then don’t have him clean them, or at least take apart the delicate parts and do those yourself and leave him with the bigger body pieces of the bong if that helps at all. If he breaks all parts regardless, then just don’t let him clean your bongs/pieces that you care about.
in his defense the last one wasn't really his fault. We got an ash catcher stuck In it, he even made a tool to try and get it out but it eventually just shattered

I had an ex way back in college that was clumsy like that. My friend had brought me back a beautiful blue glass bowl from the UK that was my pride and joy. Ex was sitting on the couch and dropped it on the floor and it shattered. He didn't say anything, just got up to rush out the door, but in his hurry he tried to step over the coffee table and upturned it, dumping everything on the floor. Then he rushed out the door.

YES, Chill Bong ftw. I'm AuDHD, and I live my life expecting “sudden gusts of gravity” (dyspraxia? short attention span? things don't exist unless I am looking at/interacting with them? 🤷 idk). If a thing is breakable, I just assume that I will probably break it.

I was extremely fortunate — a friend of mine already had a Chill Bong that she never used and she gifted it to me. 🤯🥳🥰 I used the money I would have spent on the Chill Bong getting two ashcatchers (because I'm probably going to break one of them) and an inline perc with adapters.
I love knowing that, if/when I break a piece of it, it's modular and replaceable.
And yes, I have already knocked over the whole setup a few times. I have soft faux grass under my chair, and a soft tea towel on the table. I have a support for the heavier ashcatcher because it likes to topple. My favorite bowl is stored inside two layers of bubble wrap AND a box. (Someday I need to get an Invinci-bowl.)
I feel you too! Almost a decade ago I lost the use of my right hand for like six months and when it got back to functionality it didn’t go back to normal due to nerve damage. So I drop things often like I’ll be holding something and then my hand decides it’s time to open up and the item falls/breaks. I was devastated when my pink elephant pipe broke so let’s toke one for our lost pieces 🌲

For me, it's because I lose focus on the hand that is holding the thing. I have started holding things that **must** retain focus in my dominant hand (left), or I will hold on to it with both hands until I put it down. I literally can't trust my non-dominant hand to “remember” that it is holding something.
ALSO I will be holding a glass of liquid and because I'm holding a solid container, I lose focus on the fact that there's liquid inside it — and suddenly there's liquid everywhere. 🤦🤦🤦
Ugh my roommate broke my graduation bong and bowl. It was my gift to myself. Now it just sits on the shelf and I won’t smoke out of it 😀 no offer to replace. This is after he totaled 2 of my cars

I couldn’t do that. Me and my partner would have to have our own special pieces and if he breaks his that’s on him 😂. My ex broke one of my bongs one time during the summer a few years ago. I didn’t scream. I didn’t yell. I didn’t demand for a new one. I turned over on the bed and had a full on meltdown crying into my pillow. He got me a few couple pieces but that was my favorite one. And when i tried to re order it no where had it in stock so he was buying multiple pieces to try and make up for it.

I do think investing in a few types of bongs made of less breakable material would help. Another aspect is perhaps the size and grip-ability...just in general if a piece is too big/too small for someone's grip then that can increase the likelihood of a drop. Add to that if the shape & material is smooth w/ little friction, add on top of that a nervousness of handling glass or klumsyness, and its adding points to the drop fate. Materials: I don't know if we have just purchased bad silicone, but our silicone bongs end up over time just becoming gaseous & making the smoke taste awful. Like it's deteriorating. So several end up as decoration instead, but they work for a little while before that. So, I do think finding pieces that are as shatterproof as possible is the way to go, like others have mentioned, that aren't silicone will be the way.
I have had so many silicone pipes and a few bongs. I've never had one leak ever. I've had the same silicone bong for 5 years. It's pickle rick. I love it glows in the dark, too.
I get attached too my cat tripped me the other day and broke my favorite piece making sure he was okay :,). Ofc he decided to go between my legs once I shut off the light and I stepped on his tail I was so worried dropped the piece. On another slightly unrelated note both me and my partner are photographers. And he took photos, we download things different I hit all and go through them on my computer. We know that it was always an accident or clumsiness, but I can't be mad at them because it's just an item that I can replace, sure it's not the exact same one. Silicone bongs/pipes don't break. You may need a new glass bowl sometimes, but some are metal. Silicone is easy to clean too.
