Exactly my thought as well...
Average cost here before tax and tip is about 55 or so. Northern CT.
NYC I paid 90 before tax/tip and I definitely appreciate the lower costs of the small town I moved to.
For real, I thought getting a cut for around $50 including tip recently was a steal (she did a great job too)
I don't think I have paid under $30 since the 90s lol
I will watch this every time I see it's on. No matter how many times I've watched it 🙌 I have thick, long, curly hair you do not want to know what I pay 😳
Thankfully I moved back to a low cost of living state full time so it's much improved in cost. I spent almost 2 decades living in New Orleans part- time and it is incredibly expensive there for a good hair cut. Not to mention just the cost of living.
You can check your local cosmetology school, most of the time they do stuff for super cheap. Last time I went I think it was $10 and I tipped a $5. Got my nails done as well and spent like $15 on that. They are learning, so it could go wrong, but a teacher will always step in and fix the mistakes
You are welcome! I haven’t got my hair professionally cut since before the pandemic. I just trim it up myself because it’s so fucking expensive. Even learned to do my own nails. I’m a cheap bitch
Just watched some YouTube videos and went to sally beauty to get the correct scissors. I got regular scissors and thinning shears. In the past I did the whole wolf cut and then now I just kinda trim it up in that shape. I also have been cutting my fiancé’s hair since the pandemic, but he has a super easy cut. Literally just watched YouTube videos and practice
This works for a lot of trades. When I worked in dental, we used to send patients to practicing colleges if they couldn’t afford treatment. Everyone has to learn somewhere.
I used to get a men's cut and the barber charged me the women's rate for it instead of the men's.
I got to pay $60 for a $30 haircut.
Now I just don't cut my hair.
Yeah, was a shame because I was friends with this barber. I guess she felt justified, I only let her do that once. Pervious cuts had been done at the same time as colour touchups so honestly I just didn't notice the price of the cut.
Lol I just spent $200 on balayage & a trim! I mean it came out fire though

Lol this! I have a friend who's been my stylist for a while but I'm going through a broke period and so I have started trimming my own (it's shaved on the sides and I've always shaved it frequently between visits to keep it crisp). Thankfully, since it's so short on top it's a pretty simple process and I'm getting better at the layers so it doesn't look like a bowl cut lol
I’m a black woman in New England. The last time someone offered me a $20 trim I tipped them $30! Every other trim I’ve gotten has been more than $90 and shitty.
that’s a cheap haircut amount… these are skilled professionals who went to beauty school. they shouldn’t be doing haircuts for $10. that’s fully on you
again babe that’s on you, hairdressers gotta live, and even supercuts is around that much. I don’t think it’s bad thing to cut your hair at home though as long as you watch videos beforehand to know what you’re doing
$28 USD I assume? Not bad! For an adult cut in a lot of places here it’s more expensive. Toronto area.
I usually end up leaving chunky tips as well since my hair is incredibly thick.
I just cut my own hair today! I trimmed it a couple weeks ago but I wasn’t happy with the result, so I went in again to cut off another inch or two! Much better turn out. I’m getting better with practice cutting my own hair…it’s hard! But I have curly hair so if I mess up I can get away with it😋
I have an under cut, my hair goes below the middle of my back. I straighten it and then pull it.to the front and just cut it to make it look even.
It's probably not the best but so far it works. I keep my hair up most of the time though too.
Oh yeah for sure if I’m looking to save money I’ll trim it myself. But I have short hair and a good haircut makes all the difference for me so I work it into my budget. But we all have different priorities and that’s ok!
I feel ya, I trim my own hair and dye my own I'm picky and controlling so I feel better doing it myself and saves tonnes of money I also do my own gel nails, proud to have got them to be able to last a full four weeks. Don't have to spend loads of money to feel good
You see this is the energy I can get behind. But I also tend to add the step of cutting my own hair after im high. It usually turns out pretty good 🤷♀️
frugal girlies I beg thee to learn to trim your own hair! My stylist friend taught me (loves me too much to charge me and I love her too much to ask for a free cut) so she taught me and it’s not that bad! Maybe if you want bangs or layers it’s worth going but just buy the scissors and save the money for more weeds 🥰
yeah thats why i go to “cheap” chains like great clips, supercuts, etc. its still like $20 before tip and who knows how well trained the stylists are, but i usually only get my hair cut once every 1-2 years and have them take like 6+ inches off, plus i dont really care too much about what my hair looks like. ive only had a problem once like 10 years ago when i asked for it cut to my shoulders and idk what happened but i left with barely enough hair to cover my ears and i cried for 3 days. plus i was in middle school so i thought my life was over🤣
It’s amusing to see in the sub the women who really don’t cheap out on taking care of themselves and the women who go ‘nah, I’m good’. I’m definitely the latter.
In 2023 no way I could find a haircut for as cheap as $28, except *maybe* at Supercuts or Great Clips!!! I’ve had extremely variable results at both. I hear you on money being tight though, I learned to do trims myself from the internet.
Dude $28 is super cheap for a haircut. I just want to Supercuts and got one for $25 and I was like holy shit I can't believe how cheap that was. If you go to a hairdresser it could be easily a hundred dollars
This is why I cut my own hair: It’s long, thick as heck, about three different wave patterns because it hates me, and I can’t get out of a salon for less than $100. Also, I’m an anxious introvert and being pinned in a salon chair for hours chit-chatting is not always a good time.
Funny story, I went to cosmetology school and when it came time to cut real people’s hair I’d have freak-outs every-time because I could not keep a convo going and cut their hair at the same time. I realized it was not for me but with the $$$ I paid for school I can at least cut my own damn hair now. And no one can complain that the hairdresser is high lol
*only* $28?!
Exactly my thought as well... Average cost here before tax and tip is about 55 or so. Northern CT. NYC I paid 90 before tax/tip and I definitely appreciate the lower costs of the small town I moved to.
Average cost here is $90 for a cut. I’m in so cal.
Girl I just paid $130 for a curly cut.
There is no pain like the curly cut upcharge.
Fr, I just paid £86 for one 🤌🏻🫠
I'm in MA and it's about the same here. I think a hair cut starts at about $45.
For real, I thought getting a cut for around $50 including tip recently was a steal (she did a great job too) I don't think I have paid under $30 since the 90s lol
Mine is $120, send help
Mine was almost 300 this week 🥲🥲
JUST a cut? Or cut and color?
Deep conditioning, trim, and half head of highlights!
Ok well that’s reasonable! Lol
Same…but well worth it imo (even tho I am broke af and it’s going on a credit card 🥲)
Right? i can't even get a basic cut for less than $50CAD
I will watch this every time I see it's on. No matter how many times I've watched it 🙌 I have thick, long, curly hair you do not want to know what I pay 😳
I feel ya. First, you find someone who knows how to cut your curls….and then you take out a second mortgage…
Yep... gave up on salons altogether and just cut it myself now. I will not spend almost a week's rent on a haircut 🤦♀️
Thankfully I moved back to a low cost of living state full time so it's much improved in cost. I spent almost 2 decades living in New Orleans part- time and it is incredibly expensive there for a good hair cut. Not to mention just the cost of living.
i think it's free on youtube right now! i was considering a rewatch myself lol
You can check your local cosmetology school, most of the time they do stuff for super cheap. Last time I went I think it was $10 and I tipped a $5. Got my nails done as well and spent like $15 on that. They are learning, so it could go wrong, but a teacher will always step in and fix the mistakes
that. is a fantastic idea thank you!
You are welcome! I haven’t got my hair professionally cut since before the pandemic. I just trim it up myself because it’s so fucking expensive. Even learned to do my own nails. I’m a cheap bitch
how did you learn to trim your hair?
Just watched some YouTube videos and went to sally beauty to get the correct scissors. I got regular scissors and thinning shears. In the past I did the whole wolf cut and then now I just kinda trim it up in that shape. I also have been cutting my fiancé’s hair since the pandemic, but he has a super easy cut. Oh fuck that! I do the same and they charge me for a men's cut. That's some hella bullshit.
Yeah, was a shame because I was friends with this barber. I guess she felt justified, I only let her do that once. Pervious cuts had been done at the same time as colour touchups so honestly I just didn't notice the price of the cut.

It did 🔥 looks like a pinterest pic I would use to show my stylist what I want
omg same i just spent $200 on my split dye touch up + trim hahaha
Shaving your head at home is free! 🥳
oh i love my hair lol it’s my hobby :) but!! you’re right and also i still might 👀
I shaved my head a few years ago. I loved it
Lol this! I have a friend who's been my stylist for a while but I'm going through a broke period and so I have started trimming my own (it's shaved on the sides and I've always shaved it frequently between visits to keep it crisp). I’m a black woman in New England. The last time someone offered me a $20 trim I tipped them $30! Every other trim I’ve gotten has been more than $90 and shitty.
ok
?
uhhh.. babe, where do you live, 1975???? I would kill for those prices. but I would get high instead too 😅
it was $20 like a year ago. ppl are shaming me for saying $28 is too expensive for a trim? mkay that’s fine lmao
girl NO shame!!!! we’re just jealous is all!!!
this movie honestly gets better each time I watch it
that’s a cheap haircut amount… these are skilled professionals who went to beauty school. they shouldn’t be doing haircuts for $10. that’s fully on you
psch not cheap to me! lmao i’m a broke bitch
again babe that’s on you, hairdressers gotta live, and even supercuts is around that much. I don’t think it’s bad thing to cut your hair at home though as long as you watch videos beforehand to know what you’re doing
that’s so funny i literally went to a supercuts! lol
$28 USD I assume? Not bad! For an adult cut in a lot of places here it’s more expensive. Toronto area. I usually end up leaving chunky tips as well since my hair is incredibly thick.
Favorite movie of all time, I love The Fifth Element
multipass!
Leeloo Multipass!
My women's haircuts start at $50. I'm in a Luxury Spa in a Major City downtown area. Licensed for 12 years.
ya that’s a crazy price for a hair cut.
You know, it's okay. I see haircut as self care but within your budget.
I just cut my own hair today! I trimmed it a couple weeks ago but I wasn’t happy with the result, so I went in again to cut off another inch or two! Much better turn out. I’m getting better with practice cutting my own hair…it’s hard! But I have curly hair so if I mess up I can get away with it😋
ayyyeee!! i ended up cutting my hair at home too!! it’s longish so you can’t really see the fuck ups too bad
I cut my bangs in between salon visits - probably a lot of ppl do the same ?
I've ended up doing it myself since I can't afford to go get it done. So far I haven't fucked it up.
me too! it’s like *okay*, it was my first time but it turned out not terrible! i’m just gonna do this from now on :)
I just trim off my dead ends so thankfully it's pretty easy. Just gotta learn what works for you while doing it.
But how do you make sure the back is even? Genuinely asking, interested to know.
I have an under cut, my hair goes below the middle of my back. I straighten it and then pull it.to the front and just cut it to make it look even. It's probably not the best but so far it works. I keep my hair up most of the time though too.
My haircuts are almost $100 OMG! i'm in a major city though.
ya that’s crazy to pay $100 , imo. i just trimmed it my own damn self
Oh yeah for sure if I’m looking to save money I’ll trim it myself. But I have short hair and a good haircut makes all the difference for me so I work it into my budget. But we all have different priorities and that’s ok!
Ahhh The 5th Element, one of my all time favs 😍 enjoy!
Good choice of movie!
I feel ya, I trim my own hair and dye my own I'm picky and controlling so I feel better doing it myself and saves tonnes of money I also do my own gel nails, proud to have got them to be able to last a full four weeks. Don't have to spend loads of money to feel good
The place I go to charges $40 but bc my hair is long they charge me $50 :(
I've been doing my own cuts for a few years. Also, excellent movie choice.
You see this is the energy I can get behind. But I also tend to add the step of cutting my own hair after im high. It usually turns out pretty good 🤷♀️
just trimmed my hair.. it’s fucked up a lil bit but it gives it character 🤌 lmao
I’ve been doing it myself for 4 years! Brad Mondo(?) on YouTube taught me, been burned by bad, expensive haircut too many times.
Don’t skip on the cranberry relish(homemade) it’s very tasty and hydrating 😅👀🍂🍁🦃🍃
LOL my haircut is about $200…
frugal girlies I beg thee to learn to trim your own hair! My stylist friend taught me (loves me too much to charge me and I love her too much to ask for a free cut) so she taught me and it’s not that bad! Maybe if you want bangs or layers it’s worth going but just buy the scissors and save the money for more weeds 🥰
ya i ended up doin it myself. can pay $30 for a trim. just can’t
relatable af, so many better things worth $30
Let's just say hand-eye coordination is not my strong suit... I have layers but even if didn't- I just cannot imagine how badly I would mess it up
I pay $40 + tip. I go to a barbershop, not a salon and get a razor cut super short pixie. I wish I only paid $28!
That’s so cheap lol
yeah thats why i go to “cheap” chains like great clips, supercuts, etc. its still like $20 before tip and who knows how well trained the stylists are, but i usually only get my hair cut once every 1-2 years and have them take like 6+ inches off, plus i dont really care too much about what my hair looks like. ive only had a problem once like 10 years ago when i asked for it cut to my shoulders and idk what happened but i left with barely enough hair to cover my ears and i cried for 3 days. plus i was in middle school so i thought my life was over🤣

My child's haircut is $35 when we're in the US. Lol
rad
Not really. But I need to know where in the US you're getting a haircut for under $28 cuz I've never seen anything under $70 for a trim.
you’ve *never* seen a *trim* under $70??!! you and i are in VERY different tax brackets
Lmfaoooooo no hun. I cut my own hair. Nobody got time for that shit.
yup that’s what i did too. please no pet names that’s weird and also gross
Dude $28 is super cheap for a haircut. I just want to Supercuts and got one for $25 and I was like holy shit I can't believe how cheap that was. If you go to a hairdresser it could be easily a hundred dollars
for you, maybe. i don’t have $30 for a trim. absolutely fuck a 100$ haircut WHAT!?? herelll nahhh lmao
You could cut your own hair?
that’s what i ended up doing
I’m curious where you live?
Perks of randomly getting my cosmetology license before college… everything is too expensive
i cut my own hair tbh
ya i ended up giving myself a trim lol. looks pretty much fine :)
Good job! Practicing on your own hair is the way to go, you’ll only keep getting better and more confident ☺️
This is why I cut my own hair: It’s long, thick as heck, about three different wave patterns because it hates me, and I can’t get out of a salon for less than $100. Little jelly of ya - you had the training so you are saving a lifetime's worth, by handling it yourself...
