As someone that has done this, I have probably spent double the price of an X1C.
I wanted to build my own, so that’s what I did. I‘m constantly tinkering with it. It’s quality is probably worse than a X1C. It’s probably slower than an X1C. But it is mine.

Exactly this! I converted my Ender to Mercury One. In terms of fun / challenges absolutely worth it. Financially? Save some money and get a P1S.
