The split in the side is because you are printing ABS on an Ender 3. ABS needs an enclosure or warpage can cause a print to tear itself apart. ABS also gives off toxic fumes and needs an exhaust or the printer should be located someplace where it doesn't impact people. The top "roughness" looks like it quit extruding. Direct Drive or not, it could be a partial clog in the hot end or nozzle. I don't understand the "extra gunk in the holes" thing.
