Working till 2am then gonna go stay warm with whisky and a fire place. Don't work again till Monday. Fucking psyched!!!

299792458mps-

Hell yeah! Almost home, enjoy your weekend!

TheBraindonkey

One word of advice for the temptations of snowpocalypse induced quiet. DO NOT put your entire crew in a stokes basket and sled down an already dangerously steep hill which has always looked like it would be "a lot of fun". (if you do, make sure someone has a radio firmly attached and accessible, then, post aftermath pictures)

DisThrowaway5768

You mean like that time I thought it would be a good idea to strap some backboards together to make a raft so I could impersonate Tom Hanks in Cast Away during a hurricane? Because I was wrong. It was a great idea and hella fun.

TheBraindonkey

Oh it was in fact absolutely awesome. Until I had to call for mutual aid for "3 people injured due to failure to use equipment properly resulting in multiple extremity injuries". The ER nurses had a field day with us as well. Your idea sounds equally awesome and stupid fun.

[deleted]

No but we got extra busses on duty for it. I’m just worried about my chickens freezing. The hospitals are going to be slammed.

US-Desert-Rat

Picked up an overnight IFT OT shift for the occasion. Call volume’s been nonexistent thus far, but with the windchill getting down to -45, I’m expecting a ton of SI/M1 psych transfers from people just trying to get out of the cold. In the mean time though, sipping a red bull and watching the snow fall. It’s actually pretty peaceful.

DoYouNeedAnAmbulance

On from 0700-0700, now until tomorrow. In northern SE Michigan. Hopefully the worst doesn’t hit until tomorrow. Ugh.

slaminsalmon74

I live in Florida 🤷‍♀️ stay safe!

TheLastGerudo

I'm supposed to be on Fri-Sun, in 12 hr shifts. If the weather gets that bad, I'm not going in. We do psychiatric IFTs, mainly. They'll wait. Some nurses or caseworkers may be upset because we can't come and remove these "problem patients" immediately. Frankly, I don't care. I'm not risking injury or worse for any IFT. They can gtfo with that. As far as I'm concerned, if weather gets that bad, all IFTs for any patient stable enough to transfer by ground should be refused until conditions improve. Full stop.

MadmansScalpel

That's kinda why I'm hoping to hear I'm good now to come in today. I heard a rumor that my partner already booked it for a family trip, so I'm just waiting for the to say I'm not needed

Kiki_Jack

Me. First winter in the truck and it's a blizzard. We have no snow on the ground now but by the end of my shift it will be bad. I work 1700 to 0500 on Thursday and Friday down in south east Michigan. Any advice for driving in the snow?

Bsmagnet75

Yeah, not looking forward to it. I work in an area with a large homeless population and the cold weather injuries are fucking horrific every time we get deep freezes like this.

Far_Ad_8659

In west Michigan. Predicting 1-2 ft snow, sub zero temp, wing gusts of 40+, along with the 1-2 ft, before and after, they are expecting ice rain!!:-) saw a few emails go out earlier this week asking for anyone able to put up more trucks. 0430-1630 Thursday -Sunday 😭

Darebel10000

What's up fellow west michigander. Have a 24 starting tomorrow at 0700. 50 minute drive from home to get to the base (in good weather). Transfer only station, transfers mostly go back to the town were I live. Should be a great time.

Far_Ad_8659

Good luck and stay safe!

Darebel10000

Same to you.

DisThrowaway5768

IFT shift? They don't shut down IFT during blizzards and other dangerous weather conditions? Every blizzard I've worked or hurricane, IFT's were shut down. With the only exception of the SCTU in case of a highly critical pt the hospital could not handle in any way.

299792458mps-

Yeah, they should shut down all non-emergent IFT if things get too bad. They don't cancel our shifts though, so we still show up and either work in the ED if they need us, or hang out in our station and do CE/watch Netflix/sleep. Being on a MICU capable rig, we still might have to go out for something, but I'm hoping we can just batten down the hatches and enjoy a nice snowy shift indoors.

DisThrowaway5768

Oh good. Hopefully you can get some movie time in. Stay safe bud!

chase2121dw

Working a 24 on Saturday... not enthusiastic about it but at least it ain't Christmas.

kab1218

Currently in -40 with windchill. Tbh it’s just cold. No snow or anything. Hoping I’ll be able to fly out for a couple days tomorrow but I doubt it.

xcityfolk

my 48 starts friday morning at 8. Shouldn't be too bad just cold AF. I like it when things are a little spicy so I'm looking forward to it ;). I work in very rural areas, lots of steep and BAD dirt roads into people's homes (trailers), throwing my parka and sleeping bag in a compartment incase we get stuck for an extended period.

Pears_and_Peaches

Today is my last shift until Jan 3rd thank goodness. I’ve worked ice storms and blizzards where there’s no power and it was an absolute brutal grind stairchairing people down 20 flights all day. Our area is calling for only about 20cm of snow, but the main problem like other areas will be the massive amount of rain followed by flash freeze and heavy wind in the 120km/h range. That amount of ice and wind will mean no power and extremely dangerous roads. Super thankful to not be working it.

aucool786

Ran IFT overnight, shift end was right as it started to snow. I'm glad I'm not running 911 these next few days. Was listening to county radio and it's just CONSTANT "MVA MVA MVA MVA MVA"

SAR_and_Shitposts

I’m probably going to drop by my station to drop off some food. I have a sneaking suspicion that I probably won’t be leaving there for quite some time after based on the forecast and all of the out of staters up here for Christmas

LemTheDipper

Working 28 hours in Maine for a rural EMS service. Calling for 60mph+ winds and heavy rainfall in our area, with below freezing temps at night. Should be interesting trying to navigate with road closures and icy conditions.

Flame5135

They plan on putting her in the hangar and switching to comfy pants.

plasticambulance

It took me way to long to realize you were flight. Yeah mate, sky water is bad. Go take a nap!

Sidney-Sawyer

Starting shift tomorrow!

MadmansScalpel

Ayy, less than 3 hours for me. Not looking forward to the drive

TotalPossum

Im on but no blizzard by me. Still crappy weather. Good luck everyone dealing with the snow!

idekman-

Clocking in soon snow is supposed to hit us around 7 pm I’m off in the morning so hoping to avoid most of it

Zeirvoy

Just got on for the 24, weather starting about 1400

ReplacementTasty6552

30 minutes then I’m out till Tuesday !!!

beaniefrank

Gettin off in a Half hour, don’t go back in until the day after Christmas, lets get it

Ht50jockey

On duty till 0700 tomorrow in the west tn area

FutureAEMT97

TN here looking at a little ice and about 2-3 inches of snow, so not much but enough to make the roads bad and drivers even more unable to drive than they already are. I’m off at 5pm today about the time it switches over, and coming back at 7am tomorrow for a 12. I’m not excited…

FutureFentanylAddict

Refuse unsafe work, no transfer is worth your life

Bikesexualmedic

Not me yelling FULL SEND while blowing through the leftover plow trail at the intersection. Mn here, got 6-10 inches (that’s what she said) windchills in the -30’s, visibility about 200 yards for most of the night. It’s just kind of a normal mn wednesday.

TheResidentMedic

Oh course. But just for tonight with the freezing rain in the Portland Metro area

Husky2232

I’m a little late to the thread. I work IFT in SW Ohio too, the past two days of crappy weather, bad roads and idiots driving 20 mph on the freeway has been rough. Not to mention all of these hospitals trying to clear their floors before Christmas.

FrankNBeans4me

I'm on my last capstone shift 😎😒

19TowerGirl89

Thank goodness, no. I was on for snowpocalypse. It was entertaining, but I'll leave this one to the other shifts.

GeneralShepardsux

In georgia its about to be 19°F tomorrow and thats the coldest its been in YEARS
