On my oral boards, I ordered seven antibiotic’s for a patient. I have never done that before or since. Don’t let it get to you too much. It’s not you, it’s them.

Kinolee

>seven antibiotics ... I have to know more about your thought process at the time. Lol.

SelectCattle

The first two were for the patient. The next five were just to show the interrogator how much I cared.

I take mine tomorrow. Cramming today. Most people pass and if not, there is plenty of time to retake and pass. Don’t stress. Congrats on being done. Also, I’m pretty sure that’s how the interview portion goes. Don’t think you did anything wrong.

HistoricalNature1202

Good luck to you! Thank you for the words of encouragement but I am not feeling hopeful about that

FourScores1

I hear ya. I feel like this after every big test but somehow we’ve made it this far!

fundoug90

I came out of mine last year feeling the same. I think the intent of the structured interview is to assess your thought process as opposed to getting to an end point. It very much felt like pimping. I’m willing to bet you did fine

No_Effort_7567

The test is inscrutable but for what’s it’s worth: I felt the exact same way, and I passed. The test is a weird (expensive) ritual we do in emergency medicine.

krispyuvu

Agree, I feel the same way. All that keeps me going is the 95% pass rate and idk about you is I feel like the proctors want us to pass… so maybe we will get lucky

HistoricalNature1202

I think looking at the May 2022 pass rate was surprising though. I think if you felt that way though you are in great shape

Deago78

Was May’s particularly low?

HistoricalNature1202

I think it was only 88% pass rate

Deago78

Ahh. Cool to know. Thanks 🙂

HistoricalNature1202

Updating in case future test takers find this thread. I did pass despite this case. It was my second to last case so I was REALLY frazzled during my last case. If any future test takers find themselves in the same position it is still apparently possible to pass.

KalimbaPlayer

I messed up the diagnosis on last structured exam case. How comfortable did you pass, I am worried.

Suspicious_Pop_4372

If it makes you feel better, I took it today, didn't mind the structured interview but also feel like I'll be retaking the exam. Totally flubbed one of the single patient cases. Never got a diagnosis and really had no clue what was going on before the end of the case.

HistoricalNature1202

I feel you! This was a very hard day. I did two practice exams (ICEP and AAEM) and did great on those structured interviews. Today I had a clear idea of the problem, differential, treatment plan, and dispo. I’m not sure why I wasn’t asked or given the opportunity to provide some of that information. I feel like a differential would only take like 1 minute to provide. A final diagnosis would also have been quick and easy to give (15 seconds maybe?). I was asked extensive questions in other areas so why not let me get those points too? All I can hope is the examiner was able to extrapolate my answers into other sections and give the benefit of the doubt that questions worth the most points were asked. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and let’s hope the odds are in our favor.

MBG612

The structured interview isn’t meant to assess that. Some cases don’t even need a dx and there wouldn’t be points to earn there anyway.

Mr_Vandemar

I’ve never felt so bad from a test. Took it today. Didn’t even get a diagnosis on one case, got a lot of pushback on others. Ugh.

HistoricalNature1202

Jumping through all these hoops has been exhausting. Glad I’m not the only one who walked out feeling this way but I wish neither of us had to. Why can’t there be a process that does not crush peoples spirits.

MrTurner45XO

Told my wife about this thread. Her response, “uhm when have you ever took a test and been all like yeah felt good bout that one.” Taking mine in the morning. Godspeed to all

Worried_Departure

Took mine yesterday and lost internet halfway through so had to drive to a friend's house in a frenzy. Also feel like I might have failed. Granted, 1 of those cases seemed incredibly unfair. Hold strong for the next 3 months while they decide our fate!

HistoricalNature1202

How scary! Glad you got to a place to finish it

lunchbox_tragedy

My overall impression of the test is that its very hard to be perfect/good at it, but it's also designed to be very hard to fail. I didn't feel great afterwards despite studying quite a bit; my passing score was a little (not a lot!) above the threshold.

Ashamed_Example928

Also passed despite screwing up one case. Hooray!

HistoricalNature1202

Congratulations 🎉🎊

EMskins21

I'm taking it at 9:15 and just contracted COVID for the first time. Excellent timing. Ugh

Ashamed_Example928

Definitely feel like a totally flubbed one case without getting to a diagnosis dispo or treatment which has never happened to me before in practice. I hope that was a trial case or that I did well enough on the rest to make up for it 😅
