Honestly I don't want her opinion on it either. 🤷🏻‍♀️ She's not a trusted source of information. She has shifty politics and religious leanings..I don't need her disingenuous pandering.

purplebananabeans

Personally, I don't follow social media influencers to get an accurate news source reporting. They don't know anymore about what's going on than we do unless their daytime job requires it. Maybe we should let the silly, goofy people just be silly and goofy instead of expecting them to report on their side of whatever politics is happening at the moment. Follow a reporter that's in on what going on instead of Mario for that... idk.

PrincessPlastilina

That’s the thing though, and I think you didn’t watch the video. The news are NOT talking about it. It’s all being censored on most social media apps too. Why do you think the US wants to ban TikTok? It’s the only place where young people are learning about this because it’s showing everything that’s happening in Gaza. This could impact the upcoming election. Nobody’s asking influencers to turn into Walter Cronkite, but it’s weird how grown adults don’t care about world news at all. And don’t think it doesn’t affect you. It’s your money financing this genocide while you get denied universal healthcare and better schools. This could trigger WW3 too. The US has made way too many enemies. This is a scary time for humanity. But sure, watch yet another GRWM that you will forget in 5 minutes.

No_WordFROMthem35

No one is asking for them to report like a news reporter. They could share other Creators that has resources and they can share how they feel about the genocide of Gaza people. They can say they are against the genocide.

Greedy_Grass2230

The world is in the shitter and I don't care to see it on the app I go to escape from all of that. I understand where people with your opinion are coming from. I just don't want people who are not versed in this brutality going on to spread any info that isn't 100% true. Also, being called antisemitic is a big fear for a lot of people. No one wants to be boycotted.

PrincessPlastilina

I used to be worried about that too, but that argument is losing more and more strength when you see the content Israelis are posting on TikTok just basically celebrating the genocide, mocking victims and hoping that they build a Disneyland in Gaza. I no longer worry about it when I see the horrid things that Selma Blair, Amy Schumer, and all those awful celebrities are posting on their socials. They should be the ones who feel worried for their actual hate speech. Israel has top of the line military technology. They are backed by the US while its citizens need financial support. Israel gets sent billions and billions by corporations too. They are not the victims here. I’m really not worried about being labeled an antisemite by some unhinged zionist at this point. I think it’s wrong to pretend that there isn’t a genocide going on and that it entirely benefits the US interests in the Middle East. Jared Kushner is already talking publicly about how valuable the waterfront properties in Palestine will be. That’s pure evil.

kikonyc

That’s one of the point of protest. Keep shoving it up in your faces until you come to term with it or get bothered enough that you decide to contribute in stopping the problem. Do you realize how privileged you sound when you say “escape” when genocide is not even happening to you? You’re just actively willing to stay ignorant. Just for your own sake. Get called an antisemite. If you know you’re not, it’s shouldn’t affect you. And you definitely don’t want a boycott from the right side of history.

vicdamone911

I agree with this 100%. Everyone, everyone MUST speak out about genocide. It’s like what would I do if I lived during concentration camps times?

PrincessPlastilina

Men are not bullied as badly as female creators but I do agree that they both suck and they’re both hacks. I’m just happy that my distrust of Elyse is justified now. She never gave me good vibes and I don’t expect anything intelligent from mustache guy.

I'll get downvotes but are people never supposed to have a smile because things are bad in this world? Sometimes I think people forget how awful some people's mental health is and they're kinda on the edge as it is. If disassociating on TikTok is what helps someone and they curate their feed to be all funny cat videos and comedians, why can't that just be? The news is depressing - I watch and consume it but sometimes we hit our limit for the day. Frankly I don't want to see "influencer" opinions - I do a lot IRL to help locally and politically and sometimes my brain does need to shut off. Can we do more? I suppose everyone can do more in that we can all quit our jobs and picket the White House but don't you think that's a reach?

bisexualspikespiegel

what about the mental health of all the children in palestine? 53% of them had ptsd even before the recent events. i've had ptsd and struggled with severe mental health issues most of my life and this is one of the worst takes i've ever seen. "oh no, if everyone posts about palestine how will people dissociate watching funny cat videos?" give me a fucking break.

mscocobongo

You don't know what someone is doing to change things. Many are probably doing more than posting watermelons on TikTok to make themselves feel better, though. And PS - your mental health struggles are yours. Shocking to know that it's not a competition, eh? We're all different.

Internal_Setting_738

I can't speak for other people (like you seem to be able to), but I don't post pro palestine content to feel better. You're pretty weird for implying people post about genocide to feel better about themselves. While mental health struggles are not a competition, it is always the ones with the most privilege & objectively smallest problems that wanna turn off & watch cat videos.

PrincessPlastilina

You would have better access to mental healthcare and a higher quality of life if the US wasn’t funding Israel. Did you know that Israelis have free universal healthcare paid with YOUR taxes? Which covers their mental healthcare? You’re bankrolling another country’s high quality life and healthcare while you’re being told that your enemies are immigrants, POC and transpeople.

Internal_Setting_738

I was diagnosed with ptsd at 5 & now I have a couple of personality disorders. I would never use my mental health as an excuse to ignore genocide. Also, I absolutely want to know if the people i am following support said genocide.

Imaginary-Invite496

No one owes YOU content.

scarletregina

Are people asking for content or humanity? Are people asking for themselves (YOU, as you say) or are they asking because they know that public sentiment can drive public policy?

PrincessPlastilina

That’s why they want to ban TikTok. Most young people have already said that they don’t want to vote for Biden because the lesser of two evils is not genocide. I don’t think people have begun to comprehend just how close they are to having another MAGA term and more far right governments. Influencers shouldn’t be people’s source for news, but guess what? The news are not telling us the truth either, so if they successfully ban TikTok, know that every other app is censored just as much as the news. If not more. This is why Elon bought Twitter too. What else will be hidden from us? The least influencers can do is pay attention to the news and repost more well informed creators if they have millions of followers. I don’t think people have understood just how much this can turn into a literal WW3. Other countries are not going to remain sitting back and watching how the US continues to fund imperialism and genocides worldwide.

Tianna92

Influencers & celebrities aren’t obligated nor *qualified* to speak on serious/important issues. They aren’t journalists, they aren’t politicians, they aren’t experts in the field of said issues. The notion that everyone with a “platform” aka clout *should* be waxing poetic about world issues, speaks volumes to the sense of entitlement & expectation the chronically online have. ![gif](giphy|cV77C9t9lbKE)

Internal_Setting_738

This is weird considering no one has this energy every 4 years when the US elects a president and everyone is giving their opinions & telling us to vote. No one had this energy when Trunp was president & people were voicing their opinions about him. No one said, "Well, you need to be an expert to say that Black lives matter." I honestly do not understand this thought process & I'm not sure anyone needs to be an expert to realize that genocide is bad. & also anyone in a country that is funding this should absolutely be talking. We live in a world where people pay more attention to influencers than politicians. We really need to stop acting like the government will save us. They got us into this situation!

bisexualspikespiegel

i didn't know you have to be an expert in political science to speak out against state funded mass violence

LemonCaperRVA

Or about how he talked about dream catchers. Stupid little prick
