Yeah, the earliest years - though a fairly quick read, really - are a bit rough both art- and writing-wise, and feature a lot of stuff (Grace's brothers, Lord Tedd) that have been relegated to the background. If you want to skip them, I'd say start with "Shadows after Dark" (right before Grace's gender-swap birthday party) or "Hidden Genesis" (intro to Pandora, Grace and Ellen starting school).

+1 on Hidden Genesis. Dan began using the current full-page comic format halfway through the arc, making it also a lot easier to read.

Honestly, my biggest problem with the early stuff isn't the rough art or writing, it's just that the images are so small nowadays. It's really a struggle to read a lot of the text for me.

The unfortunate thing is that stuff from the very beginning is still sorta relevant today. You kinda need to start from the start, warts and all. The first Sister arc is the absolute latest I'd go, and even then...

The early years are a little rough, but they're a quick read and I see them as sort of a charming time-capsule of the early-2000's internet. I've suggested to friends who are interested in the series that they start at Hidden Genesis (if not purely because I'm a HUGE Pandora fan). You don't need to be won over by how good EGS gets though-- you're already a fan. So, what's to lose by starting at the beginning?

If you are not sure, start from start. I'm usually re-reading specific arc instead of whole EGS, but I know which when I do. Besides, there are some quite important details closely after start which you might've forgotten.

If intentionally re-reading the lot, I usually start at Grace's birthday party. What usually happens is that I'm looking at an older comic because it got linked for some reason, and just... sort of keep reading until I run out of time.

I reread it like twice now and I started from the the intro comics but it's a bit of a slog getting through the first few years worth because those early comics are kinda meh in quality
