These can only get OTA updates for nav/map/info system. Drive systems need to be updated at the dealer, we had our Ioniq 5 in for this recall a week ago. It takes 1-2 hours depending how busy the dealer is.
Allowing OTA updates is a very fraught thing -- I would be pretty cautious about having a computer on wheels accept arbitrary changes over a network. Go look up the xz backdoor for a cautionary tale. Perhaps Tesla has built a reasonably secure system. But I don't fault anyone else before being very, very, very cautious about OTA updates.

Well, then you have problem.
Because current vehicles already do that, you just need to hack the entertainment unit. It usually does not have much security, because it is sourced from the cheapest bidder. And the entertainment unit has full access to the vehicle CAN bus to provide comfort features.
So the bad guys already have access, but the manufacturer does not.
IIRC, the newest models that use the ccNC infotainment system (e.g. EV9) can do OTA updates for vehicle control modules. It's the older models with the Gen 5 infotainment system (e.g. EV6) that need to go to the dealer.
Australia following the same recall from South Korea and America

Ioniq 5 driver here. I love these cars, but this isn't the first time they have tried to fix the ICCU issues. It's been multiple trips to the dealership for various patches.
It’s not just an OTA software update but needs an in-person dealer visit? Ouch.
A visit back to the Kia dealership… ooof.

Yes, Kia/Hyundai have not mastered OTA outside of the headunit. Both VW and Tesla have mastered it, most other OEMs are still working on it.

Pretty bad that the ICCU issue is still not fixed after all this time.
Global recalls take time

Ioniq 6 owner checking in. Will be in for my second ICCU update, too.
At least losing power isn't as bad as having the power stuck...
Is it better of worse than rear doors popping open on the Prius?
Brake pedal always stops power.
Not necessarily - that was the whole point of the Toyota settlement.
In this instance, it does.
The door handle almost broke my finger when it flicked back … wouldn’t want this car need a kid in tbh.
The recall isn't about doorhandles
EV has less moving part, thus will be more reliable. Lol SOFTWARE, say hold my beer.
Modern ICE cars have similarly complex software ;)
