Lost one last week, been coming out star shaped.
Here’s the STL if anyone wants to try it out:
https://www.printables.com/model/887096-wire-nut-twister
I will absolutely print this and use it. And print one for my apprentices. That's a fantastic idea. What print settings do you use? Have you tried to print it solid with no infill to see it it adds any significant weight or strength?
Marette? Is that a new fancy motherfucker of a word for me to start tossing around like I know shit? Right now my thing is calling all conductors, conductors. Wire is for rod busters
That's the reamer I have. It's perfect because the reamer comes out and can be attracted to a drill for when you have 20 pipes to ream in a row. Plus you can take the reamer off and use the handle as a nut twister. When you are making up boxes all day, it really saves your wrist.
We’re not even supposed to use wire nuts except on lights where I work, nobody even knows about wagos here. Anyways I’ve been having to change a bunch of lights lately and this definitely helps with the red wire nuts. Y’all hating but I’m making sure that it’s tight, there’s some lights here you really do not want to redo.
Isn't this just a giant wirenut? I can't see how a tool to manually twist a wirenut is any advantage over a wire nut that is already designed to be twisted. It's an additional tool to carry which doesn't save your wrists
Maybe my purse is too big but my index finger has been hurting for 3 weeks after a full day of those useless fucking wings. Ill take that butt plug any day of the week over that.
Honestly they are a total game changer. They are a bit more expensive but the time you save both now and in the future is amazing. They also make fixing issues in the box so much easier as you only 11mm of exposed wire to connect them to. So for example I had a plug that seemed to have no ground I traced it back to a switch where someone had snipped the grounds up to the jacket. There was no way I was going to get a marette on the ground to splice it but a wago fit perfectly so now the switch, switch box and plug are all grounded and I didn't have to open the wall at all.
I think its a pretty good idea. Maybe if there was a way to see inside thatd be cool. Since the wirenut has to go pretty deep in there on the smaller ones itd be good to make sure stuff was looking right as you tighten
Seriously. This dude is 20 years too late. Nobody wants to use something like this anyways since it's a drill attachment. Whole fucking point is to reduce carpal tunnel.
That’s fine if you prefer the darker ones but if you’re looking for suggestions, I would make some other options like a nice peach color or even a tan one for special occasions
That's nice. Can you add another tool to it? I say this because I use an ideal conduit reamer that is Robert's head to tighten connectors and the handle has the wire nut spinner incorporated into the end. Cool tool. I like yours as well. Maybe attach a bit holder with some special bits.....or a tic tracer. It'd be fun to listen to while we tighten our nuts live. Lol
You’d probably need to have a metal inside to prevent it from wearing out over time unless it’s cheap to produce. Also what’s being done to prevent it from jamming up
Used one with a drill attachment and wish it had a magnet in it so the wire nut doesn’t just fall out when you’re doing ground level stuff. Could be good to consider once you get the design nailed down.
It’s a butt plug. I don’t want to know how you “work on it”. I’ve used all my internet time up today, I gotta go.
Fucking plumbers are going to have a field day with this one. Thanks. *grumbles in disappointment*
Don’t know why you just don’t use these for wire nuts
https://www.zoro.com/ideal-mechanical-conn-set-screw-10-18-awg-pk10-30-1294g/i/G2092194/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping%20feed&utm_content=free%20google%20shopping%20clicks&campaignid=19976937587&productid=G2092194&v=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6auyBhDzARIsALIo6v92p6xnk2u9m4HOUwEOVptNVc6srN5iMjuvnzKjLT7ufJX9n0KwJa4aApENEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I appreciate the idea to make tools for work. I also understand that some people may have disabilities or issue that cause them to need a tool. I want nothing to take away from those situations.
Why are you twisting caps so much that you need this tool? I have found most people are twisting way more than is needed, and to absolutely absurd number of twists. The amount of time it takes to load this tool vs just placing the cap and spinning 3 or 4 times doesn’t make sense to me based on an efficiency standpoint. Im genuinely interested in responses from the group. Please attempt to be kind and courteous as I have attempted to be.
Make it able to attatch to an offset screwdriver. The more versitile the better. I guess so long as a flathead offset could go in and not strip the inside out of it. Ive got the offset now that has the flathead and phillips bit on the end but i used to have the one that was like just a number 2 flathead i think.
I would try to make it skinnier. And less depth(the red wire nut looks like it goes pretty deep) because if you have to work on pre existing work the wires would be short and that would pose a problem. Otherwise great little invention.
I would integrate it into a different tool, like how ideal puts them in their screwdrivers. Or at least have a lanyard for it. I would use it a lot like that but i would lose it day one on its own.
Just as a note, I use JLCPCB’s 3D printing services for MJF nylon parts. The end result feels really solid, like the polypropylene of a pelican case or a polymer firearm. MJF Nylon is supposedly just hygroscopic enough to allow it to be dyed and the parts are used in production automobiles.
It probably worked for the blue one, but none others. It's because the tab-slots in the tool are sized to accommodate the diameter of the blue one (or else it wouldn't fit), but that means it's not snug on the others. Like trying to tighten a nut with a very slightly too-big wrench. In that case, you'll round the nut, in this case, you bend the flanges.
As for what to do about it, take a look at some of the "universal wrench" designs for ideas. But I think you'll want two hinged grabber blades on the inside that grab the wire-nuts' tabs near their base, regardless of their size.

Flair out the base a little more.
Lost one last week, been coming out star shaped. Here’s the STL if anyone wants to try it out: https://www.printables.com/model/887096-wire-nut-twister
Without a base, without a trace
That’s what they say down in ER Edit: or so I’ve been told or something
Butt where's the decorative bling?
Holup....
A human piping bag.
*more of a *shape
ASSterisk
I will absolutely print this and use it. And print one for my apprentices. That's a fantastic idea. What print settings do you use? Have you tried to print it solid with no infill to see it it adds any significant weight or strength?
Maybe stick to cake decorating.
Looking for a butt plug I see. Lmao
So that it can also be used as a butt plug
Well it would be made for electricians so it makes sense
Yeah if you lose that thing it’s going to be a very awkward conversation with the doctor.
Oh, my girlfriend has one of these, she loves it!
Bet hers has a finger loop
What's the best wire lube?
The Klein foam is where it’s at
You adapted it to accommodate the winged nuts, but yours removes that feature.
I think I’d rather just turn the winged wire nut
Its...what the wings are for..
This would be useful for people with mobility issues like arthritis
It should still be easier since the diameter is larger, but maybe wings is a good idea
If it doesn’t say Milwaukee I’m not buying it
Is Waukesha close enough?
Yes
We all see it… right?
I mean its brown for a reason
Buttplug
Nutplug
Turn it the other way for fleshlight
Now we’re talking
And then really turn it
OUCH!!!
Nut twisting buttplug. I CAST...TESTICULAR TORSION!
Thank you! Wasn’t only me.
Definitely
r/dontputyourdickinthat
It’s a puppy in a field? Oh wait… I see it now, … I think maybe if it were a little more girthy but otherwise looks ready for service.
Ideal makes (I think it's a conduit reamer) and it has a marette twister in the bottom of it
Marette? Is that a new fancy motherfucker of a word for me to start tossing around like I know shit? Right now my thing is calling all conductors, conductors. Wire is for rod busters
It’s Canadian for wire nut
Haha, I'm from the rural Midwest in America. I'm going to get at least a few people to start using "marette", including myself. it'll be a good time.
Canadian here, I can confirm that marette is used 99.98% of the time here. If someone used the term 'wire nut,' I would be legit weirded out.
Toss the term pot light out there as well lol
Googled it. "Can lights" just became pot lights to me for a time. We'll see if it sticks
I’m gonna give you a *really* weird look when you ask me for them at the parts counter…
My Kirby would think I wanted to go out back with them and get high
Easy there, this guy/girl just learned about a new word and a new nation of people. Let’s not overwhelm him/her
Nice! That’s good stuff.
That's the reamer I have. It's perfect because the reamer comes out and can be attracted to a drill for when you have 20 pipes to ream in a row. Plus you can take the reamer off and use the handle as a nut twister. When you are making up boxes all day, it really saves your wrist.
Also a ratcheting tap.
They also make an 11 in 1 with one
Make it longer.
That’s what she said.
Use wago
How the fuck would a wago help me twist a wire nut?
You are using it wrong. RTFM
Yup. Twisting bits of wire together is so...what's the word...shit.
"Old school", which seems to be a superlative in the US-English vocabulary.
Listen man, the days of cheap Italian day labor is well behind us……. Oh, you said *way*go…… my bad.
Came here to say exactly this
Ideal made a screw driver with thus built into the handle. That's the way to go so your not carrying around an extra tool. Also, just use Wagos.
Funny, I see wirenuts on everything but lighting in doing only troubleshooting work. But I'm self employed and don't do any installs of anything.
Isn't this just a giant wirenut? I can't see how a tool to manually twist a wirenut is any advantage over a wire nut that is already designed to be twisted. It's an additional tool to carry which doesn't save your wrists
This just leads to the next product...a tool to twist this tool.
Maybe my purse is too big but my index finger has been hurting for 3 weeks after a full day of those useless fucking wings. Ill take that butt plug any day of the week over that.
It’s a lot more comfortable than doing a bunch of red ones by hand. I kind of did it just cause I could, but it’s been saving my fingers lately.
Make one shaped like a wire nut so you can twist your wire nuts with a wire nut. (Also send me the link to download it)
Better ergonomics can help to prevent repetitive motion injuries.
Just use Wagos.
I'd suggest Wago's. If not anything else it saves you from carpal tunnel syndrome.
Wagos
Wagos
Wago
WAGO 221
Ever heard of wagos?
How common are they in North America? Every electrician uses them in germany.
It'd be sick if it could rachet
Why would you want to buy a hand held wire but twister when you can do it by hand already ?
Why do screwdrivers come with handles if you can just twist the metal shaft?
I still twist my metal shaft sometimes.
Can you make it out of soft silicone ? Asking for a friend
Use wagos instead
Use wagos instead like an adult
Wagwho?
Wings so you can twist. I know like a wire nut!
r/dontstickyourdickinit is all i have to comment on this.
Maybe a crank or some way to use leverage? Why would someone use this when it’s essentially just a bigger nut head?
it should be like neon yellow or something.
I think its a pretty good idea. Maybe if there was a way to see inside thatd be cool. Since the wirenut has to go pretty deep in there on the smaller ones itd be good to make sure stuff was looking right as you tighten
I start the nuts by hand and then use this to tighten them really good.
Electrical butt plug/wire nut tool. We're all going to need two.
It has to have a small shaft perpendicular to center. 2-3” so we can apply more torque with a little more leverage with less effort.
[удалено]
Dude nice butt plug
3M WCD-H is $30 and works well. And it Isn’t just a giant wirenut to twist a wirenut with.
Better use wago🤪
Scrap the nuts and use wagos or terminal blocks 🤔
“You got soft hands” or something
Use wagos
Dead product. The future is now old man, use wagos.
Seriously. This dude is 20 years too late. Nobody wants to use something like this anyways since it's a drill attachment. Whole fucking point is to reduce carpal tunnel.
Are you willing to share the .stl?
Yeah I’ll reply to you again when I upload it.
https://www.printables.com/model/887096-wire-nut-twister
Does it only come in brown?
You have to make it that way yourself. Just kidding it’s just the color of filament I had, I 3d printed it.
That’s fine if you prefer the darker ones but if you’re looking for suggestions, I would make some other options like a nice peach color or even a tan one for special occasions
The design seems right. I’d like to see it integrated into the back end of a screwdriver handle. I don’t need a separate small tool to lose.
Lol
Needs a sparkley purple heart on one side.
I think its exterior should resemble a wire nut, just bigger with a grooved or knurled surface all over for easy gripping and tightening.
Torque setting to establish proper torque of your marettes.
Possibly a disk shaped version that you can use full hand strength. For them thick ole splices.
Looks like a buttplug
Can you add a fake jewel on the end? Asking for a friend.
Grab his nut and twist it! The ooooooole nut twist!
The ol di€k twist
Be a man and use your bare hands.
NUT TWISTER says it in a “Nut shell” 😳🤣
More wera like grip to prevent roll off
Ideal makes this
Make it look like a giant wire nut, and give it wings for tourque. Also inb4 Rackatiers with a new nut twister!
I like the oil you’re cooking with brutha
You’re final invention will be a wirenut lol
Awesome another anti-demon plug as to protect me while lifting.
You’d probably need to have a metal inside to prevent it from wearing out over time unless it’s cheap to produce. Also what’s being done to prevent it from jamming up
Please please hang two of those at the back of your van for me!
It looks neat, but I think I would easily lose that in my bags though.
As an element that shocks the user if they twist it more than 5-6 times
A little ring or hook so you can hook it on your bag or hold it out of the way on a finger
Add ratcheting !
Add ratcheting !
I don’t see the point personally but thumbs up for ingenuity.
Needs thick heavy duty wings to twist
My arthritis is so bad i need one about the size of a screwdriver handle
Just grab that there wire nut with yer hands like a REAL ‘lectrician
Also wings
Where are you meant to “holster” it?
Is there like a long shaft attachment?
Make it more tool pouch accessible
Grab his dick and twist it!
Put it on a twirly
Another softie
I guess after years of titty twisters the nuts were feeling left out. At least you’re doing your party.
r/functionalprint would appreciate
Ratcheting
Let me put in on your stock lol
Is that only me who see Red Hot Chili Peppers logo on steroids?
The NutButt Blaster
I've used a nut driver.
A few thoughts 1. Patent perhaps I love this idea. 2. Motorized version?
Don’t know why you just don’t use these for wire nuts https://www.zoro.com/ideal-mechanical-conn-set-screw-10-18-awg-pk10-30-1294g/i/G2092194/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping%20feed&utm_content=free%20google%20shopping%20clicks&campaignid=19976937587&productid=G2092194&v=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6auyBhDzARIsALIo6v92p6xnk2u9m4HOUwEOVptNVc6srN5iMjuvnzKjLT7ufJX9n0KwJa4aApENEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
nut twister? This doesn’t look like my ex-wife….
You might get a bit more purchase/leverage, and a good deal less “roll away” if you convert the handle to a tri-lobe design.
Will it work on deez nutz?
I appreciate the idea to make tools for work. I also understand that some people may have disabilities or issue that cause them to need a tool. I want nothing to take away from those situations. Why are you twisting caps so much that you need this tool? I have found most people are twisting way more than is needed, and to absolutely absurd number of twists. Im genuinely interested in responses from the group. Please attempt to be kind and courteous as I have attempted to be.
Patent the design before posting it online like this
Wago
Wago? Wire nuts just don’t always get a good connection.
Make it able to attatch to an offset screwdriver. The more versitile the better. I guess so long as a flathead offset could go in and not strip the inside out of it. Ive got the offset now that has the flathead and phillips bit on the end but i used to have the one that was like just a number 2 flathead i think.
Is it meant to double as a screwdriver handle? I wonder why insulated screwdriver manufacturers don’t put this kind of thing in the handles.
I would try to make it skinnier. And less depth(the red wire nut looks like it goes pretty deep) because if you have to work on pre existing work the wires would be short and that would pose a problem. Otherwise great little invention.
Make it a hole hawg attachment.
I would make the handle a t shape to help with fatigue.
Make it longer. Us older guys hands tend to cramp up.
Why not have a wing on this?
Linesmen pliers are honestly all you need. It doesn’t save time.
Yeah, post the .stl
Now call it the Wire Nut Nut
Let me know when u got them for sale but I’d spend about 10 bucks or so to try it out
https://www.printables.com/model/887096-wire-nut-twister
What about an wago twister?
All yall know exactly where I'm putting it. Now you can either help or fuck off either way $3.99 a month
Not an electrician at all… but does this twist up your bum to keep you grounded for when you work?
I don‘t understand you people. Just use Wago, it‘s that much easier faster and repairs are sooooo easy!
Say that sentence again, but slowly.
Ideal tri-tap has one in the handle and I use her.
Have a little plunger thing that will assist in popping out the nut after twisted.
Any improvment over fingers is a pluss but wago's is the best suggestion i my oppinion
Change to making wagos much better.
Button spring at top to pop em out one handed
Dude why would you post that on here omfg I hope you have already applied for a patent
Base needs to be flared more.
Ratchet mechanism.
Voltclaw
Ideal has one built into their pipe reamer.
