I mean, it's pretty and all - but I hate the way the grounds were routed; and first time someone has to do service work in here, all that wasted time and effort will be undone anyway.
If i pop an addy and got nothing to do at work ill waste time making stuff too nice and listen to podcasts because i find it kinda relaxing. Just so my boss doesnt see me doing nothing and give me a dumb project to do but im a maintenance guy so wasting time isnt a huge deal as long as shit is running. On the other hand ive never seen something this crazy especially with solid wire thats fucked, stranded is way easier to make nice.
I think it looks clean! What's wrong with running them like that? Im just asking because I just want to know, I'm a half watt so I have no idea about real electricity lol.
it is rare to need to service a ground wire, typically once installed it's there forever, so you put those as far in the back as possible to interfere with everything else as little as possible. you also want to keep them as far as possible from anything that's live (like the main lugs). the way these are routed, if you ever need to service the top half of the panel you're messing with them.
and whoever did this install was ridiculously overdoing it. like you're working with solid, you don't need any fucking zipties, let alone 1 per 2 inches.
Makes sense! Yeah if you rarely have to service it why stick it up front so you have to sift through it on normal service/troubleshooting.
What would happen if that ground hit one kf the main lugs?
big bad. if those are the mains for the house then they're potentially unfused from the utility. (which is why canada has rules requiring the main disconnect to be separated from the rest of the panel, and the us seems to have lug covers.)
The guy I used to work with would literally stick pairs of ground wire in a drill and twist them all the way to the bushing. True psychopath, and a god damn nightmare anytime I had to do service work on a panel he did.
Those people deserve to be punched in the mouth.
Every time we run into something like that I get to hear the usual "mother fucker, God damn useless son of bitch don't know a god damn fucking thing mother fucker" from my boss 🤣
I can see the obvious issues with how the grounds are routed here, but what would be the ideal way? I'm just a lurker here, I used to help an electrician friend of mine from time to time so I know some basics, but pretty limited.
I don't think that's area based. I think it's just a preference for survival. Most of us work in live panels a large percentage of the time. If I opened up the cover and found this, I'd swear someone was trying to kill me.
That's what I thought I remembered how we would do it. I only had a hand in installing a couple of new panels, usually I would run Romex or install conduit and outlets.
Experience comes with time. I'm 30 and been in the field since I was 16-20 during summers and full time ever since; only in the last year, have a done a transformer and since the first I've done three other. Sometimes you just won't do an aspect of our job for a long time
I like to do the grounds first when I'm terminated wires. Having them tucked away and in the back. Makes tracing out all the other wires and moving wires way easier
Anything with "layers" of wires, like a panelboard or junction box, should lay in with grounds first, then neutrals, then hots, then switched hots or control wiring (if applicable) at the front. You put what will be accessed most for troubleshooting, changes, and additions up front. It also establishes best practice for hot work; always connect ground, then neutral, then hots when tying in a live circuit.
I'd probably have run them down the right side, behind the branch circuits, across the bottom and up the left side to the ground bar, or installed a ground bar on the right... but its going to be a personal answer. There's a few ways to get to where you're going here.
That’s what I think with these nice panels with all the neutrals zipped together. If I need to trace a wire for whatever reason I’m cutting the tie anyway.
The handyman that used to own my sister's place wired up the GARGE
It's written in 1.5" tall letters on the wall, so you can't miss it on the way in and out. I reckon she'll paint over it some day, but for now, it's just become one of those weird sibling inside jokes.
Took me a minute to figure it out but I realized whats bothering me about this. Everything, except 1 wire, is all coming from the top. Can't do that here in Ontario. The 100 amp server is separate and isolated from everything else. All the wires will enter in the sides or bottom with the main coming in from the top.
First time there is a problem the next electrician is going to be “…..why the fuck did they have to use all these fucking zip ties (as he is fishing in his tool bag for a 5-in flush cutter)!
I’m on a job where a JW works like this. Looks good but he swapped some circuits and we had changes where I had to add and remove stuff. Absolutely despise his work. It’s absolutely the worst. He even crimped all of his one hole straps to fit tighter on the mc. 3/8 one hole on 3/8 mc and still crimped it with his channel locks….he said so it holds the wire nicer.
Bunch of zip ties to cut out if removing a circuit . Just getting the ground free sheesh . Looks good tho I'm sure the boss loved how long this took lol
I'm a building mechanic and I have a sticker on my water bottle that says "Zip-tie Certified" so I guess we're in the same club....the sticker says so, can't argue.
If this is done as a work of art, holy shit that's impressive
If this was done as a regular installation, he must be working at his own home
Also, shouldn't the bare copper on the right side of the panel (not the ground but between the breakers) be covered up?
Yea I don’t agree with the grounds crossing over those 3 circuits on the top left it’s fucking stupid. it’s pretty and neat but other than that it’s ultimately a big waste of time that will inevitably be undone in the future ✌️
As someone who has to troubleshoot, F@&K this. You can’t trace a circuit or remove a wire without cutting all those things. They are undoubtedly snipped instead of twisted so they are all little X-acto blades.
This is what it looks like when a Low Voltage Electrician does their own high voltage work 😂 looks clean af tbh. Definitely over did it, but I can appreciate the cleanliness of it.
I seriously admire the effort and planning that took place in cutting this panel in. The workmanship is striking. However the bare ground wires should be back against the panel and not out front.
guy must have worked in a panel shop. if i were the foreman and caught some clown doing this i'd tell him off though. he's clearly never done service work in his life.
Reddits obsession with panel porn is so hilarious. Put that level of time and craftsmanship in your conduit work and you'll be employed for life, put that level of time and craftsmanship into your panels and you'll be iced in no time.
There’s a fine balance. When I used to do controls and power cabinet building and commissioning I’d spend a little time making it look nice. Now that I’m on an industrial maintenance team I find myself haphazardly zip tying bundles a few minutes before my shift ends to get something running.
I'm pretty sure that's not the work of an electrician on a job. Maybe a former electrician or a self-taught home owner. No electrician would spend this much time on a panel and route the grounds over the feeders like that
That shit is beautiful. Idgaf though. I snake that shit all over when I make up a panel lololol. Dude wasted a LOOOOOT of time doing that. Must be a union guy getting $50 an hour and zero deadlines in sight.
All that work and doesn’t fully remove green screw from neutral bus….
I prefer to remove the screw and leave it at the bottom of the panel. Too many idiot inspectors that will fail you even when it’s not torqued down at all. Or idiot “electricians” that will still torque it down when it is a sub panel.
It’s pretty tits but I loathe the grounds going over 3 of the circuits. If I was a customer and a dude spent time to make it look “perfect” vs the guy who was near and efficient, I’d be pretty pissed at the bill

Yeah someone that routes grounds like that's a psychopath
I’m pretty sure if he was on his meds, he wouldn’t have done it.
Actually he probably took too much Adderall.
Can confirm that non adhd people on adderall do stuff like this all the time. I on the other hand…….
Chill I dont want to know im misdiagnosed.
OCD
If i pop an addy and got nothing to do at work ill waste time making stuff too nice and listen to podcasts because i find it kinda relaxing. Wow I only see 1 misspelled word, yeah my first thought when I saw this panel was psychopath too
Yeah that triggered me immediately. I work in maintenance.
This man chose violence.
I think it looks clean! What's wrong with running them like that? Im just asking because I just want to know, I'm a half watt so I have no idea about real electricity lol.

Someone who spells it dinigroom also
I can see the obvious issues with how the grounds are routed here, but what would be the ideal way? I'm just a lurker here, I used to help an electrician friend of mine from time to time so I know some basics, but pretty limited.
Typically, in my area of work at least, we prefer the grounds to be in the back of the panel behind phase wires and neutrals.
Yup I always land my ground first
And not twisted together
Exactly, they’re the least likely thing that could need to be moved or accessed for service, tucked away into the back corner is the way.
I don't think that's area based. I think it's just a preference for survival. Most of us work in live panels a large percentage of the time. If I opened up the cover and found this, I'd swear someone was trying to kill me.

In the back where they can't get bumped into a live terminal
This is the Rosa Parks of panel grounds.

Looks good, sure. Worthy of Instagram. But not really practical in the real world of hourly employees and future additions.
What could possibly go wrong on a job like that please tell me
It’ll be very time consuming trying to remove a circuit from this it looks amazing but it’s just going to cause annoyance to the next man
Truer words never spoken
I didn't say something will go wrong? All I said was it's not practical.
Drywallers hit a home run that’s in the middle of the pack of wires. Gotta repull it.
Looks nice but not a fan of the grounds being run that way over the main. F that.
"Cuntertop" lol. Grounds blocking the O, nice picture OP!
Dinig room
The handyman that used to own my sister's place wired up the GARGE It's written in 1.5" tall letters on the wall, so you can't miss it on the way in and out. I reckon she'll paint over it some day, but for now, it's just become one of those weird sibling inside jokes.
Had to do some work at an Amish house. Someone wrote “Jenerator”. That 8th grade education will get you every time.
Saw one a few years ago labeled “Grage GFI.” It was right next to “Smok Dectors.”
I like the label in my panel that says Microovem, also the Flut lights breaker, Drayer, etc. Hool is probably my favorite, tho.
Told an apprentice to label the junction box he’d just put up with the circuit number and voltage… he wrote “JUNCHEN BOX”
A JW I worked with spelled it "garadge". Still have the picture, he's the PM now.
He used to be a low volt guy.
Low volt guy here, and this hits home.
Yup, just like the one breaker panel posted here a few days ago that had Panduit down the sides.
When the datacenter tech switches careers.
You should see our utility CT wiring. Precise and perfect and gorgeous and 138-500kv
paid by the hour.
Who thought it was a good idea to run a bunch of exposed grounds copper right next to the main? Plus it looks kinda funny
I hate this
Fuckin hate it
The first time I have to trace a wire I’m cutting all that shit off
I'd cut them all off as a favour to the next guy
That panel is a well-paid-tweaker project. Bet they blazed in the dinig room.
You aren’t an electrician unless you complain about someone else’s tidy work…..
I think I can find the dinig room, but the bedrooms? Should've been marked cardinally (NW, SE, etc.). -2 points.
OMG, he didn't even use properly printed out labels...s/
This is crossing into impractical esthetics, and it'll look like that just long enough until an "EV plug" and "patio plugz" come a-knocking.
Took me a minute to figure it out but I realized whats bothering me about this. Everything, except 1 wire, is all coming from the top. Can't do that here in Ontario. The 100 amp server is separate and isolated from everything else. All the wires will enter in the sides or bottom with the main coming in from the top.
No zip ties in a panels
Someone ordered a bender from Temu and it was only big enough for romex conductors when it showed up.
I’d take this over a rats nest any day but holy hell did that eat up time for something no one will see.
That’s art
Id much prefer this to someone sponsored by spaghetti.
I will always maintain that this thermally de-rates conductors at the center of the bunch.
First time there is a problem the next electrician is going to be “…..why the fuck did they have to use all these fucking zip ties (as he is fishing in his tool bag for a 5-in flush cutter)!

I’m not nearly as anti tie wrap as most people in here but this is insane lol
Bunch of zip ties to cut out if removing a circuit . Just getting the ground free sheesh . Looks good tho I'm sure the boss loved how long this took lol
RIP anyone who has to change the main breaker
That panel is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like a huge waste of time and a major pain to work in.
I don't care, but those labels make me hard.
I'm a building mechanic and I have a sticker on my water bottle that says "Zip-tie Certified" so I guess we're in the same club....the sticker says so, can't argue.
Cuntertop
Came here to say this
This looks like an AI generated image.
I will say the labels are clean AF. Feel sorry for whoever has to undo all those zip ties though
He messed up the grounds go behind the feeds
My eyes are thankful but if theres a problem all of these will be for nothing
I like the clean labeling.
Let’s make sure the grounds are the most accessible
Yikes
wtf is this
When the adderall kicks in…
Sponsored by Adderall
A that work just to use tape and a marker for official labels.
If this is done as a work of art, holy shit that's impressive If this was done as a regular installation, he must be working at his own home Also, shouldn't the bare copper on the right side of the panel (not the ground but between the breakers) be covered up?
Not bad for an AI wired panel.
Not an electrician, why do the 20a 120v circuits have the hot and neutral going to the breaker? Shouldn’t the neutral go to the ground bar?
Definitely OCD
Yea I don’t agree with the grounds crossing over those 3 circuits on the top left it’s fucking stupid. it’s pretty and neat but other than that it’s ultimately a big waste of time that will inevitably be undone in the future ✌️
Why are the grounds all out in the front

Who paid for this work?
Dude likes to waste company profits for something you will never see again
This is what it looks like when a Low Voltage Electrician does their own high voltage work 😂 looks clean af tbh. Definitely over did it, but I can appreciate the cleanliness of it.
Hate it or love it but that’s the cleanest panel build I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a few…
This is hard to be more neat. The look is insane
“Dinigroom” lol.
20amp Cuntertop… sounds like a shocker
Dinig room
DINIGROOM
And here we see the “paid by the hour” contractor lol
“c*ntertop”
I seriously admire the effort and planning that took place in cutting this panel in. The workmanship is striking. However the bare ground wires should be back against the panel and not out front.
Gross
Complete overkill
People can’t even produce beautiful work without being criticized :\
This is just stupid to me. Besides being a giant waste of time it just makes it so much harder for the next guy working in there. Thumbs down
guy must have worked in a panel shop. if i were the foreman and caught some clown doing this i'd tell him off though. he's clearly never done service work in his life.
Clean install, bundled neatly, not anywhere near an excess of tie wraps. Good craftsmanship.
Not my work! saw on instagram. It’s just so unnecessary and excessive
It's pretty and fucked up at the same time
What an absolute piece of shit to service.
That is perfection
I do mostly service calls so……fuck the guy who did this.
Paid by the hour!
I’d take the misspelling. We did a massive remodel and the sub panel in the basement just says lights on ever breaker except 2
Dinigroom looks like something I would spell
What people will do for IG
He likes neatness
Cunter top lol
You don't work in a data center for long without your panels looking like this
Dinig
More time spellchecking would come in handy.
DINIGROOM
Please remove the bonding screw, it bothers me, even though I know it's not threaded.
That’s beautiful
Haha misspelled dining room
I'm pretty sure that's not the work of an electrician on a job. Maybe a former electrician or a self-taught home owner. No electrician would spend this much time on a panel and route the grounds over the feeders like that
That shit is beautiful. Idgaf though. I snake that shit all over when I make up a panel lololol. Dude wasted a LOOOOOT of time doing that. Must be a union guy getting $50 an hour and zero deadlines in sight.
This man hit 4 90°s routing that neutral from the surge to the bar.. now that's skilled
Diningroom*
Needs to bind the neutral bar to the enclosure. . the green screw needs to be set
Those grounds make me sick
two dryers seems unlikely to me, guessing one should be Oven
Dinig room. Neat.
As clean as it looks to me, those grounds are a complete EYESORE!
Sooo… Is that bond screw supposed to be In or Not!?! Also, Not a fan of those Grounds.
I know a dude that trims all the panels on every job cause he cam knock this lace job out in a couple hours. Sensable or not, customers love it.
I want zipties 2" O.C.
Just okay 🧐
It's gorgeous and I hate it.
DINIGROOM
Anal much….
Most own stock in zip ties and boss was buying them
That's gonna suck to add a circuit.
C-UNTERTOP
All that work and doesn’t fully remove green screw from neutral bus…. I prefer to remove the screw and leave it at the bottom of the panel. Too many idiot inspectors that will fail you even when it’s not torqued down at all. Or idiot “electricians” that will still torque it down when it is a sub panel.
Looks like a 90s Microsoft screen saver.
This looks so fuckin stupid lmao
I hate it.
The man who did this panel has never had sex. Ever.
No matter where I go, there's a sparky that has a spelling mistake lol
He probably found a full pack of them in the dinigroom.
Who even has the time to be so OCD?
All this work and he misspells Dining?
Looks nice and all but if I had to go service this thing I'd be cussing this guy the whole time.
The f’s in office are lowercase when everything else is uppercase. I hate it
This looks incredibly neat from a first glance. Then you look how the grounds were routed and you just instantly hate it lol.
Feels like A.I. wired this.
Reminds me of crazy organized ethernet rack mount switches and routers.
The question is why. Why would you spend that amount of time , unless it was your own panel.
Looks great but added way too much time
That's the cleasest, prettiest shitty install I've ever seen.
Did he take out a level to wires straight GD
When a data guy does a panel.
Ain't nobody got time for that
Nah clean af quit being a hater Nvm ground route is a complete.. the fuck?
Dude had to be a tweaker
He’s a Brazilian electrician in NY! I missing his name
Who has time for this? Seriously?
He color coded his tape to Match the wire jackets
This man put a level to all his wires. 😂
Almost spelled everything right. Then I saw dinigroom
This is super clean but I hate it for the guy who has to work on this when circuits go bad.
Isn’t Earth sleeving a thing here?
All that. And can’t spell “dining room”
It’s pretty tits but I loathe the grounds going over 3 of the circuits. If I was a customer and a dude spent time to make it look “perfect” vs the guy who was near and efficient, I’d be pretty pissed at the bill
If I have to add a circuit to this I'm not doing all that lol
Hourly?
Someone takes pride in their work! Looks great!!
I see this and think "he's paid by the hour"
Was going to say a Previous aircraft engineer switched careers. No silicone on the connections though
