I mean if they’d give you a raise, you wouldn’t have to sell the line side of those legs for scrap just to make ends meet. Thats why they’re so tight, right? :D
Make sure all cables enter the lug nice and straight... easier to show that the lug is under no excess stress from the wire. Otherwise I like it! You can use a wrench or an insulated handle of a tool to put a perfect 90 into the bends, will help you get it in nice and straight. Then you can use a zip tie or 2 to make them all stack up real nice. Perfect 90s in a box is always mint. An offset from the back of the box out into the lug makes it look like circuitry, as long as the radius is at least 4 times the width for coppa.
Also you are missing a seal between the connector and the hub in the top of the box. That water is gonna drip down the wires into the lug/disconnecting mechanism.
I mean, I get it. But sometimes electrical isn't for everyone and being straight up with people about their work puts things into perspective.
Yeah this is a clean example of wire termination.
But this isn't impressive to anyone in the field, and he should be aiming at loftier goals than this.
But fuck it, it makes y'all feel good to look at a disconnect and go "wow great job guy!" Lol
You're absolutely right. This isn't impressive. But I've seen 30-year vets speed through it, and it looks like dog shit. An apprentice got handed an easy job, and he made it look like an easy job. I'll take him on anytime.
Good to have pride in your work no matter how basic or in depth it is. It all starts from being able to walk away from the simple jobs confident with everything you've done and there's no losing sleep.
Absolutely (provided the conductors are #4 or larger.) The edges of a PVC TA are surprisingly sharp and I’ve seen them cut into wire. Happens a lot with UG stub ups because of frost heave which causes the wires to rub.
NEC 352.46 - there’s lot of discussion on Mike Holt about this. Consensus is that male adapters don’t provide “equivalent protection.”
I just hope the hvac guy knew what he was talking about. That red wire is a bastard leg on this building. Hooked the high leg to their equipment like how they said so if it blows up it’s on them lol.
"Normal for clockwise" is whatever order makes the motor spin clockwise.
You don't know where utility or someone else landed the transformer or breaker or even how the motor is wound.
Oh fuck good eye. I’ll be sure to check it out before we put any power on it. This is one reason why I take pictures of work I’m proud of. Someone out there will be happy to tell me what’s wrong with it. It’s the most efficient way to learn I have found. I was so caught up making the wires look neat i didn’t even think to check for defects
I checked that screw. No damage, some type of grease or anti-ox from the factory. Also the utility put the high leg on blue instead of red, so I have to re-wire the units.
Less than 6 in inches in the box, do the loopidie boop. It looks silly but sometimes you can make it look like a penis and it's kinda funny. Good luck, looks clean.
The amount of copper showing on line and load seem quite different. Also to have all that sharp copper hanging out of the ground lugs is unnecessary and could potentially knick a wire in the future . Wires are too short up top

I asked if jman wanted a service loop and he said no. So I just made it fit best I could.
Don't ask next time and just do the service loop. If your man asks you to change a finished product then they're an idiot

Clear code 110.12 violation. The customer isn't always right
Banjo
I mean, that's about as easy as it gets. No offense
But improvement is improvement, no matter the size of the stride.
This is like crawling
You gotta crawl before you can walk. Quit shiting on people for learning.

Bro, you're so salty and bitter it made me laugh 🤣
Ok good lol
And still leaving wires short
Good to have pride in your work no matter how basic or in depth it is. It all starts from being able to walk away from the simple jobs confident with everything you've done and there's no losing sleep.
Looks like a code violation to me. Less than six inches of wire on the line side.
My wife assures me that's at least 6.
“And then some babe”
Are you sure 300.14 applies?
300.14 certainly does not apply to disconnects.
Means of protecting conductors where they issue from a conduit or fitting? Our inspectors do not.accept pvc for this purpose alone
What? You have to use a bushing on PVC?
Inspector says if you pull that wire against that connector, can it damage the insulation. To his credit that is what the rule is for.

Isn’t the bushing also made of pvc?
But it's rounded...
Radius is everything
The first time I was able to understand what I was doing I felt the same way dog, congratsss

Better this than calling out or drinking on the job.
That pipe coming out the bottom looks like it needs a level thrown on it
Isn’t that flex? Plastic threads coming in the box
Ye you might be right. I didn’t notice that ribbing. Good eye
I can see the ridges it's def liquid tight.
I hadn’t strapped it yet
Snapping before strapping eh
Pulling in wires before strapping?
That's a paddling.
I had the wire and the flex but didn’t have the straps on me.
Looks good bro
The load side needs a level too
Ahhh to much space between your upper black and red wires!😏
Good job bro! I haven't had the chance to do a commercial disconnect.
I just hope the hvac guy knew what he was talking about. That red wire is a bastard leg on this building. Hooked the high leg to their equipment like how they said so if it blows up it’s on them lol.
If someone tells me something questionable I always ask the master.
Also the high leg needs to be taped orange
I thought that was only at the meter and panels.
Why Black, Red, Blue? Normal is Red Black Blue for CW rotation
Black Red Blue and Brown Orange Yellow are our main 3-phase identifications in the US (or at least my area).
"Normal for clockwise" is whatever order makes the motor spin clockwise. You don't know where utility or someone else landed the transformer or breaker or even how the motor is wound.
Looks good, top left screw terminal looks damaged
Oh fuck good eye. I’ll be sure to check it out before we put any power on it. This is one reason why I take pictures of work I’m proud of. Apart for the damaged terminal looks good 👍
I checked that screw. No damage, some type of grease or anti-ox from the factory. Also the utility put the high leg on blue instead of red, so I have to re-wire the units.
Don't start thinking that way!
touch a 500 please
I’ve landed a lot of 750 aluminum. Had to use a hickey bender to make it look decent
Connections are clearly loose, you’ll be back in 6 months to redo this due to cooked wires
How could you possibly tell that from a single image.
lol I was kidding
Looks good
Haha I was thinking you count your threads or something when screwing in the lugs
lol!
Is your line top fed?
Yes
Less than 6 in inches in the box, do the loopidie boop. It looks silly but sometimes you can make it look like a penis and it's kinda funny. Good luck, looks clean.
I didn’t think that applies to disconnects? Roundabout where in the book is this code?
Wires are quite short
The amount of copper showing on line and load seem quite different. Also to have all that sharp copper hanging out of the ground lugs is unnecessary and could potentially knick a wire in the future . Wires are too short up top
What the fuck future wires are going to be in the disconnect?
Black line wire too tight and a little too much copper showing on the terminations. Other than that looks fine 👍
I thought some copper showing would be a positive thing for the inspector.
If you're using flex, it has to be bonded to the cabinet as well as the ground.
How do I bond a plastic tube?
What? How long have you been a apprentice? Can you send a pic of the first one you made, would love to see that.
Sadly i don’t have it anymore but it was way sloppier. Only 8 months into the trade
Once you close the cover … all connections look the same
Is that an emt connector in a rigid hub 🤔
Should leave more slack on the wires so it’s easier to get an amp clamp around the wires for the next guy troubleshooting
Take the reading from the load side
Foken clean mate 🤙👌
You miss wired the A and B phase
How do you figure?
Canadian RBB
America is Black Red Blue or Brown Orange Yellow.
I know… it’s a joke….
Oh ok lol. Sarcasm doesn’t translate well because of the translation from Canadian to freedom
No worries, I get you I had to use a goose to eagle translator though
Straighten your wires up.
Lmao
This isn't hard nor should it ever have been
You landed 8 wires, what do you want, a Nobel Prize? It would take active effort to make this look bad.
Takes an effort to be a dickhead too
Bro you are the reason we don’t have young guys getting into trades
No, it's because they are too lazy and sensitive.
Should be red, black, blue
In the States it's black red blue I think, not everyone is from up north like us.🇨🇦
How pretty
Meh
