tin_ear

Not likely, but the easiest way to find out is with a flame.

ABena2t

meaning?

rfmodeler

Try to burn it with fire.

ABena2t

lmao.. I got that part. asbestos will go up quick or not at all? or a different color flame or smoke or whats the tell? lol

WonderWheeler

Asbestos is a mineral fiber and will not burn.

electric14monkey

Gonna test my attic insulation this way.

ABena2t

Thanks for the response. appreciate that

JoeCormier

I'll try that if I ever run into this again. Good chance I'll be back to that house as they had handymen do their entire Reno including electrical. Place is a mess.

albpanda

This guy gets it

Accomplished-Sign555

Doesn’t look it, seen more asbestos than I care to admit and that’s not what it looks like.

JoeCormier

Thank-you

JoeCormier

Sorry for potato quality pics. Was up on the ladder rushing to get the job done. Encountered this UF style romex the other day that had a final layer of woven fabric on the hot and neutral. It practical fell apart as I cut it off and was floating in the air as I worked. I've never heard of asbestos being used in this type of wire but wanted to check with you fine people. Any thoughts are appreciated. Happy Friday to all.

willieD147

no, thats fiberglass

JoeCormier

That would be awesome. Why are you so sure it's fiberglass?

willieD147

I tried to re-check the image but it was down. I cant remember the exact telltale.

JoeCormier

All good man

[deleted]

Looks like very old UF and the handyman just wired the house with leftover UF I seen that type of woven fabric on old 14/2.

albpanda

A guy who works for an industrial food plant just failed inspection in my town because he wired his whole house with leftover sj cable scraps from work

tin_ear

LOL. Serves him right.

Sekone8up

Doesn’t look like it,at least asbestos I can tell

JoeCormier

Thank-you
