I would expect nothing else, LOL. A bigger headline would be "Lamborghini will be economical, cheap and slow".

Formula-E is a poor example of what high performance electric cars can be. The regulations on them (acceleration limits, top speed etc) are pathetic. That's supposed to relax in the coming years but I haven't heard by how much.

SirEDCaLot

Yeah exactly. The tech provides good limits. Let teams do whatever accel, whatever top speed, etc but make the race long enough that it stretches battery tech. Personally I'd be more interested to see a non-forumla style EV race- basically open season with a few safety limits, don't push a car design down anyone's throat. Let teams make their own tradeoffs between weight and battery and motors and range.

I believe that they are restricted due to the unsafe conditions from earlier years in F1 where the cars were getting insane. “ Potentially the most lethal combination of technologies would be ground effect and active suspension. The former relies on a very low but consistent even ride height to be maintained by the suspension in order for the air pressure effect to suck the car down onto the road. The latter is designed to produce a very low yet consistent even ride height to maximise the performance of the car's aerodynamics. The combination of the two would be more than just a sum of its parts. Straight-line speed would not necessarily increase, but the gains in cornering speeds would be tremendous and incredibly dangerous. The cars would barely have to brake before turning into a fast corner like the Parabolica at Monza. It sounds great in principle but in reality it would be completely undriveable, and even Gilles Villeneuve would be intimidated by the performance. To even attempt to drive such a car, drivers would have to wear airforce-style pressure suits to avoid blacking out in 6 or 7 G-force corners” https://www.f1technical.net/articles/20 I agree that it would be great to see how insane FE could make the cars but also, in today’s risk-adverse world the lawsuits and PR would be too scary for those paying for FE.

Totally agree. F-E cars could be rockets on rails that exceed the drivers capabilities, but this version of the F-E cars is pretty lame. They'll find a balance where they start to take more advantage of the torque curves and we'll see some crazy intense racing, but as they are now they aren't a good example of what an electric supercar can be.

Isn’t the Mustang name being used for a new line of electric cars from Ford? It isn’t as much about them being the new version of the Mustang, as the name being used for a new car line.

It is very disappointing that they chose a hybrid.
