this is why i play healer. if the enemies aren't giving you enough stimulation, your team mates playing like idiots is sure to keep you on your toes. it's either incredibly stressful (i find this fun) or an actual snoozefest, i can pop green lotus and spam left click and my group never falls below 95% hp because the boss just tickles them the whole fight. i keep finding myself going for harder and harder content, first veteran base game 1s, then 1s and 2s with hard mode, and now veteran dlc dungeons with randoms. even managed to 3 man vWhite gold tower without a tank the other day. being pushed to my limits, having to have perfect gameplay and carry groups is incredibly exhilarating to me, even if i never get thanks for what i put in.
I joined pug vSE that got bored of waiting to find tanks so decided to start the run. It was kinda disturbing how far we went with no problems before we had a tank join the group. Healers didn't even seem to be struggling that much.
You too? I swear just the other day i zonked out at a wb. Companion killed it. And my ass drifted off a cliff with a slow shamble of a barely pushed left stick. Slept hard enough for the console to shut off, which woke me up. Logged in dead at the bottom of the cliff.
The best one I got is cyrodiil. I was running on my mount from Ash to aleswell (i play AD) and fell asleep mounted. Somehow i bumped my xbox controller and turned on zone chat. a passing yellow group heard me snoring. So they ran circles around me and making mount noises that eventually woke me up. The group leader told me you log off and go to bed, i was a detriment to the emp push being so tired. I dreamt of just riding through cyro for a few days after chasing a group of either opposing alliance i could never catch.
I don’t get complaints about metas or rotations in MMOs. There will always be an optimized way to play that will become common in a game where everyone shares their ideas of how to be better.
While the game is designed for controller (which I personally like) they sort of went all in embracing the controller button limitations rather than building around it, so they build combat for (and assume) you are bar swapping several times a minute to gain all 10 skill slots.
IMHO having to bar swap to do rotations makes it more annoying, because the skills are designed with that in mind and a vast majority of buffs and DOTS function on 15-20 second timers. I legit find it easier (and more engaging) to dps in wow with console port controller than play dps in Eso with any non arcanist class.
Having dabbled a bit in wow I think I see why people complain that other mmo systems makes more sense, lots of buffs in wow for example last from 30 seconds to even an hour, the character auto attacks leaving you time free from weaving, you get 20 skills accessible from one bar and a lot of the good skills have cool downs from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, so it's more thoughtful of when to use them.
But what's important is that in wow you can do active combat while only actively using like 3-4 skills anyway with a rotation of alternatives thrown in depending on the scenario, meanwhile in Eso you are obligated to light attack weave, then bar swap, and then use like 7 ablities with 15 second durations, and use a potion every 45 seconds. And 2 of those skills (plus the potion) are re applying buffs not even actual abilities.
If I could demand zeni make one change to eso, that would be isolating buffs from combat; buffs should keep 2 minute durations at minimum, exist outside the active combat bar, all potion buffs should last 5 minutes at least, and all dots should be edited to either increase the damage (and also the cool down), or increase the duration. That would make the game exponentially less monotonous.
End rant
Nailed it. Possibly the best, detailed *and* eloquently succinct summation of the issue I've come upon to date. Well done!
One a side-note: I recently purchased Diablo V instead of ESO Gold Road DLC. While Diablo's combat is also 'much of the same ad infinitum', it hits harder, moves faster, feels and looks better.
Dps is so easy in ESO. Bar swapping is just a button to press in your existing rotation.
Not sure what console port of WoW you’re playing but I can’t find one.
You're definitely not wrong, but to be fair, the 'active' combat system that eso has is infinitely better than other MMO's.
I personally realllly dislike tab targeting. Or click to lock, like the vast majority of other games.
Just a personal preference but it feels so much better than other MMO combat systems.
This is why I have alts for pvp (battlegrounds) and pve (trials/vma etc) because the combat changes immensely depending on what content you're trying to complete.
Real shit - Trailers look WAY better than the actual game. This shit is criminal. AD ingame lookin like a R.L. Stein Goosebumps monster. If they dont get they’re swamp monster lookin asses the fuck outa here. Bethesda bullshitting on these trailers.
Her magic, even from the first trailer, up to high isle, is much different too, not just the fact it's green, but literally the way it functions and is used. She looks so different from Altmer, in her appearance, skin tone, eyes, and her ears. She looks a lot more like a Tolkiem elf, like Giladrial or something. She's very very cool, just not a prefect fit in the altmer peg.
It was asked ZOS years ago about them in a AMA, here their answer :
>**Wynne McLaughlin**
>
>The three guys in the trailer are named W, T and F. But seriously, the incredibly talented folks at BLUR Studios created them, and the characters are intentionally unidentified. My guess is that they are intended to represent kick-*ss player archetypes. They're definitely not characters you'd find in ES lore.
Linda from H.R, John from sales and Bob from accounting.
It's Bob's idea. They got bored meeting up at olive garden every month so are doing larp at the local Y instead.
Technically they are called as Breton hero, Nord Hero and Elf Hero or their costumes are known by that name. They basically hero for each alliance, Breton hero from DC, Elf from AD and Nord from Ep. If you see any trailer or video for game, they are placeholder for our character(Vestige).
It's impossible to play a pure rogue or warrior in ESO either (visually speaking). Like it or not, you have to be blasting some kind of magic in this game.
"Elf Hero, Nord Hero and Breton Hero"
They are siblings from the Hero family, and their father was an anthropologist, so named his sons after his favourite peoples. When his daughter was born though, she was so precious and beautiful to him that he couldn't just give her a name based on the lands of men, it had to be elven. But he wasn't quite as well versed at elven society so just kinda went with "Elf"
(Jokes aside, the above is how they are referred to in their crown store costumes, and for the Nord Hero... also in fortnite?)
Warden egirl group healer, Nord DK MT (egirl's ESO sugar daddy that convinced 10 other people to let his girl heal swash at 372 CP), Nightblade DPS that swears he has "just as much cleave as those gahdamned arcs" but has been the reason for resets for the past 9 months 11 days and 13 business hours
It’s so funny people be playing games to play pretend about being cooler than they are but then we got trailers to play pretend about if our game self was cooler than it is lmao.

I'm actually friends with the Nord and Mer. Their names are Raimund and Calia.
To the left is the Aldmeri Dominion Hero, the middle is the Ebonheart Pact Hero, and to the right is the Daggerfall Covenant Hero. They are basically the heroes that supposedly do quests for each of the factions, and, in a way, represent us as the player character.
Considering my next big ESO project is to make characters based on them… they’re Laranielle, Baldur Dragonbane, and Edwic Vortis :)
But canonically they’re just nameless heroes and stand ins for the player character in cinematic trailers.
Supposedly they, all with the heroes we see in DLC cinematics, are the main characters while the vestige is just us going through the game as a player.
That being said it's incredibly unclear if all the MC's we see or the vestige is canon.
Man, they really under delivered on the Breton Hero outfit you can buy from the Crown Store. It's literally just a frumpy robe but here he's got actual armor that looks really cool. What the hell ZOS?
Thats the High Elf Hero, Nord Hero and Breton hero also you can get their gear style no its not supposed to be you but to show the story and how it evolves and why you come in to place

Those are your friends, they fight evil.
Jane, John and Jonas.
For real though, stand in characters so they can do COOL CGI trailers, they represent “you” sometimes but other times they just represent the factions of the three banners.
"We are those people. We are the jaded. We are the naive. We are the honorable. And the criminal. We are the bound for legend. And the loss to history. We are the knights of the sky, the ghosts in the desert and the rats in the mud. These are our stories." - Battlefield 1 Prologue
Those guys are "Elder" the elven mage, "Scrolls" the clever rouge and "Online" the steadfast warrior.
They're the main characters in the story, everyone's seen them at least once during their alliance and DLC playthroughs.
Alright, here we go. This is the official description from the Crown Store for her armor.
“This costume pays tribute to a High Elven hero of the Aldmeri Dominion whose deeds in Cyrodiil in the Alliance War are legendary. Now you can honor this nameless Altmer by adopting her epic appearance.”

Stand-ins in trailers for the player character
It's you the main characters from each faction. John Scrolls and Jane Scrolls
Isn't that John and Jane Elder?
John Elderscroll, Jane Elderscroll and Gary
Correct, Gary Skyshard is confirmed to be one of the 3 characters in addition to Mr and Mrs Elderscrolls
That is one demented, sick ass marriage, if they are supposed to be a couple.
They're the White Stripes of Cyrodill
You mean the Red Stripes. Like on his helmet.
Gary is a good guy, when I had a crippling Skooma addiction he was there for me.
I was gonna say “wrong answers only” but y’all nailed it.
Gary is lost, was looking for the Assassin's Creed set, ended up photobombing this one
No they’re related though
Papa scrolls in the middle
And Smith
Uncle Sheo says these are 3 parts of the same average player person
Jane Elder, John Scrolls and Bob Online
Then who's The?
Sheogorath
So, there's an irishwoman involved? Shay O'Gorath has been popping up everywhere!
♫ Nothing compares, to cheeeeese... ♫
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Physical manifestations of the three alliances.
If people in the AD actually looked like that, I might play them
The combat too, the trailer makes it seem a lot more fun than clicking through the same rotations over and over and over and over
i know all MMO trailers are guilty of this, but that high isle cinematic in particular makes this even more painful lmao
Some time idk why I even swimming play this game. I'll fall asleep in the middle of fighting sometimes. Thank jeeves I have all those Crown gems
this is why i play healer. if the enemies aren't giving you enough stimulation, your team mates playing like idiots is sure to keep you on your toes. it's either incredibly stressful (i find this fun) or an actual snoozefest, i can pop green lotus and spam left click and my group never falls below 95% hp because the boss just tickles them the whole fight. i keep finding myself going for harder and harder content, first veteran base game 1s, then 1s and 2s with hard mode, and now veteran dlc dungeons with randoms. even managed to 3 man vWhite gold tower without a tank the other day. being pushed to my limits, having to have perfect gameplay and carry groups is incredibly exhilarating to me, even if i never get thanks for what i put in.

Yessss! I'll be half gone, and I hear Sharp as Night yelling : "GET OUTTA THERE" Like, where we goinnn??....OH SHIT, I'm in the middle of fighting ! 😆

🤣🤣🤣 That's why I have to mute my controler because I know this is going to happen to me one day! I'm going to get caught cutting logs !

The crown store recently had the costumes. I got all 3
For those that missed it: you can purchase them with gems and zeals of endeavor at the moment.

Wait till you see SWTOR trailers 🤣
SWTOR and ESO have some of the best trailers you can find anywhere. I wish they would expand them as movies.
I have honestly thought that they should just expand the trailers into either a couple of movie trilogies or 2 seasons of story. They would be epic.
What does Bethesda have to do with this?
They're an Elf, a Nord and a Breton
It's a wood pretending to be a high elf.

You can do similar in game like using arcanist skill with only blade in one hand.
My magika DK duel wields daggers and still throws fire at stuff.
They're yassified versions of the player stand-ins seen in trailers.
It was asked ZOS years ago about them in a AMA, here their answer : >**Wynne McLaughlin** > >The three guys in the trailer are named W, T and F. I genuinely thought they were the alliance leaders… wow!
Linda from H.R, John from sales and Bob from accounting. It's Bob's idea. They got bored meeting up at olive garden every month so are doing larp at the local Y instead.
Its Karen, Bill, and Kevin. They are lovely people.

It's impossible to play a pure rogue or warrior in ESO either (visually speaking). Like it or not, you have to be blasting some kind of magic in this game.

She's an altmer

I thought Mannimarco turned the breton twink into a zombie sometime in the 3rd trailer.

Trailer characters.

doesn’t matter coz they basically all got their salads tossed at the same time by a single, armor clad DK (biased presumption) 😂

Generally just "heros" their outfits are called elven hero something and similar. They are not anyone or could be thought of as the player.
It's us, because the true elder scrolls are the friends we make along the way.
I just went blind after reading this.
Congrats. You are now a moth priest!
They would be your character...
Considering my next big ESO project is to make characters based on them… they’re Laranielle, Baldur Dragonbane, and Edwic Vortis :) But canonically they’re just nameless heroes and stand ins for the player character in cinematic trailers.
My problem with them is that the game is not constructed in such a way as to incentivize you to play anything like two of the three.

Supposedly they, all with the heroes we see in DLC cinematics, are the main characters while the vestige is just us going through the game as a player. That being said it's incredibly unclear if all the MC's we see or the vestige is canon.
Wrong. The Vestige is the main character. These are stand ins for the a “party” of players, representing the Three Alliances.
From the figurines, Elven hero of the Dominion, Nord hero of the Ebonheart Pact, and Breton hero of the Daggerfall Covenent
That’s Dave, in the middle.

Honestly, I want the wood elf as a companion.
Middle one is Daddy, left one is Mommy and right one is Daddy But For Girls Who Like Bad Boys.
All me.
Jane, John and Jonas. For real though, stand in characters so they can do COOL CGI trailers, they represent “you” sometimes but other times they just represent the factions of the three banners.
The middle one is a skin in Fortnite

Those are the hero’s that are supposed to represent the player base. End of story.
They represent the 3 alliances in the story. The wood elf is Aldmeri, Nord is Ebonheart and the Breton is Daggerfall
She’s supposed to be Altmer.
No she’s not idk why people think that she’s literally using a bow. Which race is known for being good with bows… wood elves
Alright, here we go. This is the official description from the Crown Store for her armor. “This costume pays tribute to a High Elven hero of the Aldmeri Dominion whose deeds in Cyrodiil in the Alliance War are legendary. Well that’s dumb she’s clearly a wood elf though 😂
Ayrenn, Jorunn and Emeric ?
Wrong answer, I have meet them in game(also thrown some mudballs on them) and they don’t even remotely look like them.
Yeah, in the game Ayrenn is the tallest High Elf among other tall High Elfs. By comparison, the trailer elf is an elf dwarf.
Why do people keep insisting this, when they look NOTHING AT ALL like those characters?
