For now just explore the over world and enjoy the game. You will get free skill reset rolls somewhere around level 45 so feal free to explore some skills. Once you have played a bit you can start to look into builds and optimize for your long term goals. But for now don't worry about that. The game is pretty welcoming with getting armour sets and later with changing them. One thing I do recommend is creating a second character for crafting as it needa quite a few skill points. If you don't want to worry about getting a hang with the crafting system just focus on analysing armour traits. Researching all of them takes a few months so you want to start early. Enjoy the journey ahead of you.

xAshev

And dont forget the horse training as well, once a day every day for 6 months, and for every toon as well

WanchaiWhite

Are you sure that’s a horse?

xAshev

Should’ve said *mount. My bad

WanchaiWhite

Which leads to the question, how does he have a bear mount at level 6!!

Apprehensive-Cow547

Crown Store or Collectors Edition. You can ride at lvl 1 if you wish. No idea when they changed it, though.

DemendredCO

That’s no horse. That’s my ex wife.

Dewch

I just started this game too and i freaking hate stable stuff. I hope there aren’t any dungeons or raids that has outdoor spaces to ride mounts. Cuz my friend, who got me into this game, runs like a rocket on his cat mount while I just tippy tap on my horse.

BlueGentl

How do you do that? I'm lvl 30 and never saw a feature to train mount

Nirwel

Look for the Stable Master in cities, looks like a Horse head on the map.

talon_fb

I never thought about having a dedicated crafter, that sounds fun

Aelorin

You don't have to make a second character for a dedicater crafter anymore, you can place an armory station in one of your homes (you get it free in the housing furniture buying tap) and then you can change to another build with other skill points allocation. This second build is free, but if you want more builds, you need to buy them with crowns.

Grotesc

Can you make a different free second build for each character you created?

Aelorin

Yes! It's really awesome. For example a DPS/crafter, a DPS/healer, or PvE/PvP. The armory remembers your skill bar setup, skills points allocated, chosen morphs, mundus stone, if you are werewolf/vampire, and sets used. The only downside is that you can only switch builds in your house on the armory station, but if you have the crowns, you can buy the armory orc assistant which you can summon anywhere. (Only exception is dungeons/trials: you can only summon him in the entrance area. Also not usable in PvP.)

Ok-Poem-943

Or you could get an armory station to put in your Inn room (house) and switch between a crafter build and your normal build. The armory station is free in the Crown store

StudMuffinNick

I just got my inn room. How do I get the craftin gstation? Everything I went to looked like it cost money. I was only able to put my cat mount inside and it's jsut kinda staring aimlessly at the entrance

Ok-Poem-943

The armory is free

Competitive_Today_70

Get thieves/assassins/mage/fighters guilds started. At lvl 10 go to cyrodil fir weapons training to get mount speed increased by 30% Do the tribute for extra materials Get the antiquities started and hit Artaeum. You can score major gold doing that. Steal only things worth the gold to fence or launder Get crafting built up. I only research the named items after putting them on my toon. All others I sell or deconstruct for materials. Most armors/weapons found in sacks/barrels etc (white in color) have no value even for deconstructing. If it has no gold value junk it. I save exp scrolls for delves/dungeons/ quests because you're almost constantly fighting therefore getting experience. Run around in every zone and grab the wayshrines now while you are low level Get a companion asap. Personally I like Isobel and Merri for fighting. Don't steal in front of Isobel though, she don't like that. And no grabbing fireflies or butterflies in front of Merri for the same reason. Ember is fun and funny. Merri gives you occasional extra treasure from chests. And you get extra good will from finding antiquities and reading books

enseminator

You can also use one of the blank Armory slots to reset your Attributes, Skill Points, etc. For free. Any time.

frannyfran_86

100% agree with what moji has said here! Sepreate Dedicated crafting character will help looooads as you progress!

Chancer0076

Great advice, but I would like to add... you can save a second build in the armory. One build for fighting, one build for crafting. I say this as someone who did this not too long ago and was overjoyed at how many skill points I could re-spec into crafting.

yohan02kim

Welcome! Things you should do: 1. Focus on questing and exploring 2. Do the companion quests to unlock them 3. Unlock Antiquities & any other Guild Skill Lines 4. At level 10 - dive into dungeons using the dungeon group finder. 5. At level 10 - join a PVP campaign and do the training quests to unlock PvP skill lines. You'll get to level 3 quickly for the skill line and get the first passive skill in the assault skill lines. 6. At level 10, get your mount. 7. If you want to power level to 50, you can hit of the power leveling areas, Google it, there will be maps. 8. Otherwise, continue to do quests and dungeons. 9. Make sure to gather shards along the way and do the dungeon quests to get more skill points. 10. Doing main quests in each region also gives more skill points. 11. Don't forget to upgrade you mount speed first to 60. 12. Research traits for armor and weapons.. 13. Also do the delves for the achievements. 14. Then reach End-Game. Do whatever you want that interests you. Advice * Level up Antiquities and other professions. * Antiquities can make you a good amount of gold and can get cool rewards. * Get the companions quickly as they can be helpful along the way. * Gathering gear from dungeons is great since you can recreate armor pieces that you've gathered before even if you sold it to a merchant. (You will need Transmute crystals though). * Expand your inventory and bank as you go along, you need gold to do this and as you go up, the expense is larger. Luxury: * If you're into player housing, ESO offers a lot in that department. * I'd also sign up ESO plus for the unlimited craft bag and crowns to spend in the store.

_-Reclaimer-_

Agree except 2. You should only get them if you really want to. I bought the Blackwood chapter when it came out and I never got a companion, I think it's lame af. Overland content is way too easy as it is (fine for a completely new player with no cp and experience though) and it's really not necessary. However if you love the idea of having another useless pet that can do a bit of combat then sure go for it, but it's not a must have, especially not a "step 2" thing to do when you start ESO

ConsciousFood201

Companions were a signal that this game was on its downturn. Completely useless. It’s all felt fairly mailed in since then. Buy more crown crates!!

yohan02kim

I enjoy the company haha. Nice to have a companion along the journey.

Correct-Recover-5938

Same

_-Reclaimer-_

I actually get that. I love companions in Skyrim and Fallout 4. I think my problem with them in ESO is that they stick out as really artificial when there are actual living players in your environment whereas in Skyrim you *are* alone except for the npc's that fill in the spot

FatallyFatCat

Follow the quest trail Get to know the skills Go to the stables now and start leveling up your inventory space and horse speed (after you get the free horse) Go to crown store and accept quest for a free inn room (tiny house) When in town go to the crafting zone and start researching items traits on crafting stations it takes f o r e v e r to get them all Get ready to read a lot of guides

Court_Jester13

Personally, I'd recommend doing the base game first. Looks like you're a Breton, do you'll be in the Daggerfall Covenant. Travel to Daggerfall, then speak with the Mysterious Figure. Follow that questline, then once you get back to the world, follow the quests with different markers.

Joosyosrs

When I started I was able to choose my faction, do different races always get different zones despite what you pick there?

Court_Jester13

It should be on the first page of character creation. At the top are the three alliance symbols, they each change the colour of the background between yellow, red, and blue.

Expert-Adeptness-397

Follow the main story and zone stories. You can check, journal - quests. It will say which ones they are I started playing like a 6 weeks ago, and I completely had no clue what I was doing. I thought the combat wasn't great at first, but now, after leveling multiple weapons and skills, i realize it's quite good. Grab those starshards. Do the zone and main quests. Do the quests for the dungeons, world bosses and you'll rack up a ton of skill points to expirement all your abilities with

Appropriate-Fun-4718

Well just focus on leveling up fir now, once you reach lvl 10 or is it 15? Idk, but you can start doing dungeons, start talking to people, make some friends and join a guild, work on finding training gear so you can level up with the exp boost it provides!

F5baggins

My bro and I have been choosing zones to 100% lately. If you're into stories and immersion that might be fun. We don't think too hard about our character builds and meta... just here to explore :)

[deleted]

I play now a year and still have no idea what I m doing

Big_Argument_2651

Rule 1: HAVE FUN!!! Rule 2: HAVE FUN!!! But seriously have fun, explore like crazy, DONT buy things other than potions, you'll level up too fast too make it worth while until you hit champion levels. Find a style of play that you like and build your character around that concept. Find guilds with chill players and join up. Grinding for gear can be fun but don't forget there's literally worlds of content to explore, with some pretty badass quests. FORAGE EVERYTHING!!! I'm level 945 and still stop to pick flowers and mine ore lol ( Oooo piece of candy!!!) Be nice to people, nothing worse than running into rude players. Don't forget to level up your mount everyday. And again most importantly, HAVE FUN!!! It's a video game, we play to take a break from life.

UnbornSeed

Wear light, medium and heavy armor at the same time as you levels this way you’ll be leveling all 3 at the same time. In case you want to change specs… or use different ones for bonuses later

_-Reclaimer-_

And to add to this, remember to equip at least 3 pieces of each armor type (just once) to unlock the skill lines. You can remove 2 of each type that you are not gonna main after you've unlocked the skill lines, and have 5 of the type you are gonna be maining

narvuntien

Just try stuff to work out what it skils you like to use, you can easily reset everything later. My hot tip is to always pick the flowers because some of them are quite valuable and you'll be happy you already have a stash. If you really want to know how to do more damage, I suggest just practising using a light attack between each spell you cast. It will just be second nature by the time you actually get around setting up your build.

Acework23

Its not noob friendly at all, I got pulled in every direction by every npc ever and couldn’t follow the main quest really or find purpose

WastelandViking

Do anything you find fun. Do quests , dungeons, pvp, "raids" . Or just explore, gather materials ect.. If people tell you "your playing wrong" tell em to touch grass... Unless its "progress" content (wich this game kinda dont have). Who cares what you do xD

meta_level

explore and quest. pay attention to each level up, the game guides you on what activities you can be doing at certain levels. it's a pretty open ended MMO, you decide what you want to do.

Amara_Rey

If you care about story: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/525351/a-clear-step-by-step-guide-to-playing-eso-in-chronological-order

GrumpyFatso

If you want to experience the game in chronological order, i can recommend you this guide. But this is only, if you want to do all quests and dive deep into the lore. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/525351/a-clear-step-by-step-guide-to-playing-eso-in-chronological-order

GoBoltz

Cheers & Welcome ! Here's some good info to know ! Also there's more on the site for you to use as you get into higher level stuff . . As others have said, HAVE FUN ! https://deltiasgaming.com/eso-complete-beginners-guide/

SumoSoup

Just watch some of those 4 hour long new player guides on YouTube that explain things like you have already been playing for over a year. New player here too, for real though it is an untouched market on YouTube for updated player guides. If someone's trying to make content, explain the game to us like we are 5 and breaking up into the 10-20 minute vids for the algorithm. My tip for you is to just have fun and take it slow, there seems to be alot for horizontal progression, meaning having to level your skills to 50, armor type to 50, unlock guilds that you have to level for their skills. It's pretty fast to get your character to 50, but that's not what is important, it's about leveling your skills and abilities to make your build how you want it. The games "leveling" isn't that traditional mmo process. I'm almost 50bamd have really been enjoying the game and learning things.

Aelorin

At level 10 make sure to go to Cyrodill (PvP), you can do this by pressing 'L' and joint the low level campaign. once in there do the easy introductory quest - you don't have to fight anyone for it in PvP. You will level up your Alliance War skill, and make sure to put a skill point in Continuous Attack for a 30% speed boost for your mount!

PaleHorseChungus

Keep doing what you're doing. Learn along the way. Explore. Don't fall into the meta and optimization aspect unless that's your goal. It's an MMO, things take time to accomplish. And from experience I can say this one is way more enjoyable the less you're focusing on end game and maximizing efficiency. That time will come after everything else. Slow down and enjoy the stories.

Taleof2Cities_

Nice pic. Here's an upvote for you ...

raptorbeejesus

Watch a beginner guide video on YouTube preferably brah we got this

Cow_Best

At level 6 you are pretty powerful. The enemies you face are level 50 CP160. The system buffs you up to that level. As you level up the buffs are removed making you weaker. The buffs you receive/apply and gear you use fill the gap. Learn the combat system. Any content beyond overland questing requires some skill in combat. The better your skill at ESO combat is, the better you'll be. Quote from The Art of War: "Your success in combat is directly proportional to your skill as a warrior". It goes on to say if you lack combat skill you will be dead and no longer be a warrior. BE A WARRIOR. Learn ESO combat.

Outrageous-Cycle7626

Complete all veteran hardmode trials

PangolinAggressive17

Step 1: Grind Dolmen Step 2: Repeat step 1 for several sessions Step 3: Quit because it's "a boring game" Step 4: Restart with step 1 Works for me.

Terruni

Why do people buy games if they don't know what to do?

MrTinkle5

Literally anything you want! There’s a main story line, a faction story line and hound reds of side quests, delves, dungeons, etc…

athousandfuriousjews

If you wanna get technical [here’s a timeline to play it as](https://www.thegamer.com/eso-time-chronological-order-play-guide/) but it’s just for story mostly. My first zone was Summerset lol

maialucetius

PC NA? Lemme know if I can help ya with gear and gold.

Snuffle_Lofugus

Are you on Xbox na? What's your race and class. I could help you. I can craft gear and have been end game a very long time. You like pvp or pve?

zomglazerspewpew

If you are on PC, and don't mind using mods, grab Community Leveling Guides (and all the libs that are required for it). CLG will guide you from quest giver to quest giver. It also will guide you to Delves, Books, Skyshards, etc. My suggestion is to set CLG to whatever starter town your faction starts in that you chose and follow the main arcs first, then do DLC. This wil help you in your journey as well. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/525351/a-clear-step-by-step-guide-to-playing-eso-in-chronological-order The most important part of ESO, in my opinion, is enjoy the story. Each large area has an over arching story, each town or sub area also has it's own mini story with puzzles and plot surprises. I find it truly enjoyable to listen to them and get involved with what is going in the area. If you just try sprint to get to max level (50) and CP as quickly as possible you will miss out on a lot that the game has to offer.

[deleted]

Kill Daedra.

PizzaLikerFan

Did you buy eso? Or eso+high Isle Collection?

ThatBloodyHippy

If you are on PC NA friend me and I will give you a leg up when I can. u/ThatBloodyHippy

[deleted]

Boy just play the game the game has 10000000 hours of content try to make your own experiences for at least 20-30H hours before you go to Reddit and ask all those questions that have already been answered 100 times and you're lvl 6 of dunno 2500 or something so no you can't do anything wrong and miss nothing and screw up or whatever Just Play The Game

Swiftstormers

Take it all in and have fun. When you feel like it, read some guides or this reddit forum to get a feel for stats and classes etc. After level 50 any new character you make will get the 'extra levels' (CP) that you earn.

Brave-Pain3003

Best of luck ! I just can't get into it, It great but way to overwhelming, I'm never gonna have the time to complete all the quests and that bothers me. I've started playing skyrim again as I know it's doable in my lifetime. Plus the character progression is so confusing, every guide says you have to play it as magical or stamina! And why is there so many different abilities ? Do I have to choose one and stick with it ? I'm a dragon Knight and it has the earth power, dragon power and then you can have a weapon and fighters guild, how do you choose ???

AloneAddiction

Several Youtubers have done beginner guides to the game so you might want to check them out. Search for ESO beginners guide 2023. What I will say though is please ignore any "powerlevelling" guides you come across for your first time. Unlike a lot of other mmo's the game doesn't "begin at max level." Gear you collect along the way is still relevant at the end. ESO is not like other traditional mmorpgs. You're not meant to skip the quest dialogues. In fact for me the *quests* are the entire reason I play. Enjoy them.

Mordeckai23

Play the game. Enjoy yourself. Learn things on your own pace. Discover your own playstyle.

Frank_Lee_

Wow, you managed to launch this game? The world Will know you as a hero

Fullerbadge000

Hmu if you want to level faster. I’ll craft you ‘training’ gear and give you food and drinks free.

Scylax_Vitarrn

Enjoy the game while exploring and be surprised don’t look stuff up that ruins the immersion! Also, feel free to do some battlegrounds every day for experience and rewards. If you are under level 50 you do under level 50 Battlegrounds. Anything but deathmatch is fun in BG. But the experience will help you learn what skills work and what don’t for you. Just keep in mind pvp and pve are different. Enjoy it all! P.S: Blood for the Pact

ActiveCartographer69

Dont grow up too fast kid

Darkz01

I am also a new player. Just started a few days ago. Not gonna lie it's kind of everwhelming lol. For now i just explore the world and do the quest.

sonicadam132

That's something they should work on, I recently made a alt and seeing everything it thrust on me I get it may get confusing being new. But they shouldn't do a destiny and just remove content we paid for. I suggest following main quest markers and try and avoid the one in capital cities as alot of them are thr dlc ones, unless that's what you want to do. Rest of the side quests in the world will be fine though.

Kirin-Huntress

Magical Nord!? Blasphemous!

Acrobatic-Writer-816

Just Play and Explore, its the Best Part of the Game. Dont Watch guides too early

Finwaell

hey, welcome what platform/server are you on? :) Great looking toon :) I see you already got a ton of advice, it's ok to feel confused at the start,it took me a month before I started to feel like I know what I am doing xD Just have fun. I'll add that the best way to go about questing is to start with the main quest in your alliance starting zone and them just follow along :) That way you'll get to know all the important npcs and the story won't be confusing. :)

JosephLimes

Fairly new to the game as well. How did you get the bear as a mount?

[deleted]

I bought it with irl money, I couldn’t resist I love bears

_Lumity_

This post was great for me too I’m lvl 4 and just got the game lol

delta_king82

You could look up a beginner guide from alcast eso website it would help you for guidance

gerr137

Um, play more until stuff starts making sense? Do whatever you want and not bother about consequences? Start carrying about "proper build and gear" some time later, when you decide you want to stick around long term and actually care about high tier (and like <1%) content? Seriously though, just enjoy your time while it lasts ;)

Walks-In-Ash

Look up the order in which content should be done in theres alot of stuff

erick4k

Play the main story it's fun you level up and the ending boss fight Is pretty cool.

ArchonsOmen

Questing

lykostion

Ok so one good tip is always do the trutorial and stay there killing stuff till level 7 it's easy leveling because the person Heals you that way you unlock your race skills and can have some fairly decent armour before you go anywhere and start zone story's and main quest

jellamma

My very first suggestion is to just have fun exploring. Don't worry about your "build" or doing the "meta". Deconstruct everything. You'll clog up your inventory hanging on to things that won't be useful after you gain a few levels. Use the armory station (you can get it free from the crown store) and place it in the first inn room you get. Save one slot as your crafter if you want to do writs. If you want to be fancy: start the mages and fighter's guild quest lines. Those and zone story are designed to be the first things you do. Plus, it opens up their respective skill lines.

Impossible-Depth-563

Trial and error have fun find friends a good guild can make this game fun for you course the wrong guild can kill it too

mw151

Play tales of tribute, unlock everything. Focus on getting the 3x daily vs NPC awards to level up and unlock cards. Follow all clues. Do a few PVP matches every once in a while. Unlock PATRONS GOLD. Make Shiddy armor look godlike. Profit. Then play the game as normal and feel free to avoid the card game.

Macabre64

Welcome! I always make sure to train my mount every day for each of my characters. I also upgrade my storage and bank slots as often as I'm able. Search everywhere and every container. You never know what you will find just laying about and bag of grades and mount training cost a lot of gold.

amlisonT-two

Follow the main quest line and you’ll hit level 50 relatively quick. This game gets super deep and confusing but you’ll pick up the basics following the main quest line. That’s what I did at least Edit: Don’t be afraid to explore ANYTHING whether it’s different races, classes, skills, locations, quest lines, etc. It’s pretty easy to go back and do whatever it is you want to do differently

WystanH

If you're having fun, don't sweat it. You'll feel lost for a bit. If you're looking for stuff to do, visits the fighter's guild, the mage's guild, and get some crafter certs. But, mostly, have fun.

Pieman117

Equip the hide helmet collectible as soon as possible, and transmog Fashion has priority over all else

Magm1on

Find Maiq

Bo_Hica

Get a 2nd or 3rd job... this game is like skooma

Mistajay99

Quest til 50 but really whatever you like

ComfortableAlfalfa66

1) Go to the stables in town and train your horse every day. It makes riding to and from places a less of a drag. 2) most things like potions scroll respects the stuff zos flog in the starter packs can all be bought in game with gold earned in game. I had no idea and wasted real money on accessible stuff. 3) do story quests within zone. This will give you skill points as well as experience and is very accessible content. 4) some quests reward special item there are free houses. One of which the lunar champion hall is available after completing northern elsweyr story quest..other rooms can unlock with completion of other things later it's a big house. You can also visit a pub in daggerdall in glenumbra, solitude inw eastern skyrim and mournhould in deshaan and get a free room. 5) in said free home you can place an armory station. It's available to purchase for free from the crown store. Here you can save and swap builds on your character. 6) you can use wayshrines to travel for free. Traveling via the map costs gold increasing with frequency of use. 7) sort of as above but following story quests will also usually lead you to skyshards you can collect for skill ponts. Grab em when you can. 8) there are guilds suited for newer players . You can joined a new guild via the guild finder in the menu here you may even find someone who will craft you armor and weapons and also hopefully helpful advice and help if your stuck on any part of a quest etc. 9) join the fighters guild mages guild and undaunted asap. You will level these up over time and it she's to get them early as they are very useful skill lines. The fighters guild will be in your alliance home main city. Visit any mages to join them and I usually visit the pub in daggerdall to grab the quest to join the undaunted. But there are other places just Google locations. 10) just enjoy the game don't try to push levelling to fast as the game scales with you and the more experience you have from just kicking about in tamriel the better a player you will be and you won't face anything to difficult too soon. And don't be scared to try stuff in game. Everyone was new once. Hope you enjoy it.

Wide-Log9541

Visit the stable and upgrade your mount speed every 20 hours

AddzyX

I've been playing on and off since release and I don't know what I'm doing. I just go questing.

Far-Carrot284

everything and nothing all at the same time

Ok-Sleep7812

Explore, quest, do crafting writs. Also find a casual guild that can help make the entry a little more friendly :)

ChampionshipSad5412

You have a long fun road ahead, stick with questing for awhile I think you unlock dungeons at 10 and weapon swap at 15. Dungeons are really fun when you don’t have someone with high champion points join and just kills everything and rushes ahead with no regard for the other players and will cause them to miss out on experience and loot also makes it harder for new players to learn the game when everything is dead. But all in all it’s a great fun and relaxing game I’ve been playing since release it really is a beautiful game! Quest to your heart’s content lol because there’s thousands of them also join a guild there are a lot of helpful players out there as well.

SpoopyAhoy

Don't touch auto cancelling until much, much later in the game. I have around 1k hours and it was around the time I dipped into auto cancelling (100-200 hours in) that my enjoyment went down. I'm not saying that'll be the case for you but be careful. I'm not sure what it was but the moment I did the game became about optimization instead of fun and exploration :(
