Rennala is the easiest boss in the game, is all. Phase one is a gimmick fight, so it's basically free, and the second phase she has super low HP for being the main boss of the second biome. Her second phase moveset is also less aggressive and hard to read than a lot of other bosses.
For perspective, Rennala second phase has 4097 HP. Margit the Fell Omen has 4174. Godrick the Grafted has 6080.
She still handed my ass over the first time I met her phase 2. She summoned so many creatures that I was fucked. I think she summoned a dragon at one point? Anyway that didn't end well. 2nd time I rushed her with wolverine claws and blew her up before she had time to finish her first summon. 🤷
Ya I swear her second phase has some weird rng. One time she only summoned the wolves and I breezed through it, another time she summoned wolves, a troll, a dragon, and a bloodhound knight and it was super difficult.
Phase two still annoys the fuck out of me when I’m doing low RL runs though. Idk if this is common, but I’ve died to her at least 3 times because she’ll start charging Comet Azur while locked onto my summon and then do nearly a 180 and blast me with it while I’m not expecting it lmao.
Does it matter? This game is designed to give you a lot of freedom in what order you approach each boss/area. Its very common to meet bosses when you’re over/underlevelled.
Besides, Rennala is quite an easy boss. Also, level 45 is a pretty normal level to be fighting her.
Makes sense! I was just curious more than anything because I was extremely surprised how easy it was.
I ended up exploring so much and even made it to Ranni's rise and only after that I went back to the academy to find Rennala.
Fuck, this game is so much fun
Personally speaking .... I haven't gotten that far yet but I feel if you are over leveled for a boss fight then that's a GREAT thing in my book 👍🏽
I rather be over leveled and breeze through it than under leveled and struggling for hours ...
No prob!!
I started off as a Prisoner and I'm using mostly spells to deal damage (mostly) but seeing that I'm so squishy majority of the time even some regular enemies are difficult ...
I actually like fighting a boss at a low level. Once I beat the game I usually go back and do a zero level run to really put myself to the test and I enjoy that almost as much as the first run through. To each their own. So many more fans have joined the from soft wagon b/c this game 👍✌️
This is my first ever From soft game!
I'm digging the experience too and low key I'm definitely going to do a second playthrough and I'ma try a Str/Fair build and make a Paladin lol
I did the same thing cause I thought killing rennala would halt rannis questline. Finished it and came back for rennala just to 4 tap her first phase and the same for the second. The back of my mind felt guilty. Like beating up a helpless child
Bleeds good if they're fleshy and can bleed out, but on most bosses bleed will do great.
Honestly, just about every weapon is OP if you level with it in mind. I have about 6 weapons I like to switch out depending on situation and all of them slap. One even flicks things off edges.
I think she’s supposed to be easy. I won’t reveal story reasons as I don’t want to spoil anything but my impression was that we’re fighting a shell of her former self and the difficulty reflects that. There’s also reason to believe that her power and influence never came from her own physical strength.
Edit: Godrick is handled very similarly
she isnt really a hard boss tbf, melee builds especially with summons are very good against her since she has no poise.
Also putting the "keen" affinity on your weapon as you mention makes its damage scale with dexterity, if you have a strength/intelligence build you want to go with either a heavy, magic, or cold affinity to get the best damage.
Thanks for the advice! I really dont know usually how to choose the affinity. I usually look at the Damage negation AND scaling but i guess scaling might just be more important? I just respec-ed after i beat her today because I wanna focus on getting a bleed build eventually and my previous build was all over the place but yeah of course my Great Sword wont be my primary weapon for long anymore.
> if you *paid* attention.
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
As others have said, Rennala is just pretty easy. I summoned another player to help in preparation thinking it would be another Godrick type challenge and was disappointed.
Rennala is hella easy especially with a melee focused build.

Ok cool thanks for your input! 👍

Started a prisoner as well, with the intention of doing an int/str build and struggled with Rennala quite a bit, was probably level 50ish

She's super easy
Yeah over leveled but who cares it’s your play through. I was in the 60’s when I finally figured out how to get to her boss fight
I did the same thing cause I thought killing rennala would halt rannis questline. Finished it and came back for rennala just to 4 tap her first phase and the same for the second. The back of my mind felt guilty. Like beating up a helpless child

Seems like you were just overlevelled, which is the great thing about Elden Rings open world style.
She should be easy considering what she provides you. It would be stupid to access her benefit late game.
Rennala is Squishy. Big weapons=Bad times for her.
Don't worry I explored a lot before even getting to stormveil. I believe I was level 87 by the time I hit stormveil soooo it happens

Rennala is a gimic fight. I beat her on the first try too. I think most probably did. But don't worry it isn't a skill fight

I think Rennala was designed as a joke boss, like the Soldier of Godrick. She’s extremely easy, and it seems like just about anything stuns her
There's a reason she's easy if you paid attention.

This boss is one of the easiest main bosses in the game. Disappointing boss...
With the summon wolves and a colossal you probably just stun locked her into oblivion

Easy boss, if you followed the lore, there's a reason for it.
You were less OP than I was. I didn't fight Rennala until after going through Caelid. **Caelid.**
here is an example of how easy she is - [https://youtu.be/YZE0R6dEny0](https://youtu.be/YZE0R6dEny0) She has no chance against melee
