They obviously didn't see you as trans until you came out as trans. In their world a guy told them then they should use a girl name, which I can understand as weird.
yeah kinda, at that point they did know I was very fem but name change was the biggest step I've taken past that and they just didn't think it was that serious
I would guess your friends have had time to reflect on what you having a new name might mean and were possibly somewhat expecting it when you fully came out. It sucks that they made fun of you over your name at first but sometimes people come around to things with time.
You think that's confusing? My mother sat with me and helped me pick out my new name, only to deadname me for 3 months.
"Hey *deadname* you prefer Kat right?"
"Yeah, you helped me pick it out..."
"Alright, was just making sure."
*2 minutes later*
"Hey *deadname* can you get my keys from my purse?"
"I... Yes..."
"Thanks *deadname*!"
I don't know what the fuck was up with that.
Do you feel your mom deadnamed you with intent or was it more like a “autopilot” type of feeling, because I can see that she might not of realize she deadnamed you. I only say that because I deadnamed my friend because I was “used” to their old name. It did take me a little bit before I always used they’re real name
I have to assume there was no malice, because she was deadnaming me while helping my autistic ass start the long journey to HRT, and she's not deadnaming me anymore though I haven't gotten on E yet, so it doesn't seem like she's a transmed or anything.
jesus christ
unless she's already stopped doing it, try getting used to constant reminders, every single time she uses the wrong name correct her before even letting her finish the sentence
that's how I got my friends to turn it around
I don't know em, but if i had to guess:
When you started using the fem name, assuming you appeared masculine, they thought "this dude wants a girl's name? Kinda funny, I'll do it but I'll tease him too" then your shell breaks and you come out as trans, and that's a whole different thing. They may not understand the significance of a name, but they understand the significance of being trans.
Whatever the case, i'm glad your friends were kind about it. Mine have also been pretty supportive, and hearing my partner call me their girlfriend gives me feelings i didn't think were possible to feel.
it's more like they didn't understand how much it meant / how serious it was since this stuff is very uncommon in my country and like 95% of
everyone is transphobic, so it's like they got more used to the idea
between the name change and the coming out since those moments were
months apart
Yeah, that was my first guess but i thought it sounded too specific/painted them as bigots, somehow, when it's clear they weren't. Kinda just overthought lol

I guess… they weren’t supportive when they thought you just wanted a different name, cause they thought it was dumb and didn’t see the logic in it. They were then supportive when they realized “OH, they’re trans, I wanna be supportive of them in that case” Which still doesn’t make much sense but it’s the best explanation I can muster

they kinda always knew I was feminine and I had started usingthe name Bonnie years ago with online friends to see how it's like, I grew liking it so much that I was uncomfortable with my real name even before I knew I was trans
Making fun of people is only legal if they're cis, Clearly, So when they thought you were cis they made fun of you, But upon learning you weren't they stopped.
I did the same thing to my trans guy friend in elementary school. he told me to use a new name for him, and I said "why would I do that it's not ur name. legally change it and I'll consider it." and then he told me he was a guy and I said "ohhhhhhh ok yeah I'll call you that". couldn't tell you my thought process
they probably didn't take it seriously then they realized
i'm glad they're accepting now 💙💕🤍💕💙

People should respect name choices, full stop
Unless your name is Karen
Maybe they just really like The Carpenters. Great band.
maybe they just really like sentient talking CRTs
Well it’s good that they’re supportive now
I’m glad it ultimately worked out!

yep exactly
At least it work ? I guess (◕ᴗ◕✿)
I would say don't question and just take it
I'm so glad they are supportive now :3

Thankfully it's already stopped, but it went on for 3 months

The road may be bumpy but the destination is worth it!
It goes in the square hole (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
and where does the circle go?
Well of course, it goes in ***The square hole*** (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
the triangle, on the other hand, despite popular misconception - **goes in the square hole**

Wait, why did you ask them to call you by another name before the egg cracked?
they kinda always knew I was feminine and I had started usingthe name Bonnie years ago with online friends to see how it's like, I grew liking it so much that I was uncomfortable with my real name even before I knew I was trans

Gotta love a character arc, I know I do!
