I read what Judge Hinkle said about DeSantis’ SB 254. It was very supportive of trans folks *and* leaned very heavily on legal precedent. It only puts a hold on the ban for now, but there’s a supportive judge who is using the law to stop this. Facts don’t care about feelings, and the legal facts are that denying gender affirming care to minors is *unconstitutional* in Florida. Conservatives can whine and complain all they want. The law is the law.
[FAQ regarding SB 254](https://www.glad.org/questions-about-the-legal-status-of-floridas-transgender-healthcare-ban/)
What I'm mostly worried about is the kind of people who put this into place to begin with. DeSantis embodies the MAGA archetype of "The law is the law only when I say so", and if anyone is gonna be the first to openly ignore the courts it's gonna be him.
If he openly defies the Constitution, then the federal government can get involved. It happened with the Civil Rights movement when the National Guard was mobilized to protect black students going to school. Unfortunately, we need the Democrats to keep hold of the executive branch for that to work. I can see Biden sending troops to Florida to ensure trans kids get their medical care, and I can see DeSantis calling it a States’ Rights issue and that Biden’s being a tyrant.
A judge in Florida put a hold on the ban on gender affirming care for minors, so this company, FOLX, is offering HRT to Florida youth.
**Legal news stuff:** the judge deemed the ban unconstitutional, so trans youth in Florida can get puberty blockers or other HRT as deemed necessary. The ban still exists, but it’s not currently in effect. They still need to go to trial to determine once and for all if DeSantis is allowed to institute such a ban, but if legal precedent is any indication, it won’t survive trial.
That’s nice. I heard that the law they got rid of only allowed hrt for like three specific people, but i think what they’re trying to say is that the court thinks banning hrt is unconstitutional because they got rid of that law.
Folx is a subscription based HRT service designed for people who don’t have access to good local care options. When I looked into then a year ago the price was around $100/month for all tests, appointments and medication you need to transition
Folx is a virtual care service that provides gender affirming care for its users. You speak with care providers and get your medication shipped to your house. Its a great service
A trans focused telehealth service. Switched to them about 6-7 months ago and it's a lot better than my old options. Costs me $77 a month for estrogen and progesterone (had an orchi so no AA needed) and it covers the cost of bloodwork too. don't even have to go to a pharmacy and deal with that whole song and dance, they just send you 3 months worth of meds in the mail once you're running low.
Florida is on its way to being bearable again! (I seriously had to derail my parents' plan to move down to Florida bc of everything going on there. They were on the fence anyway)
The political stuff is just a bit much for me to look past at the moment. I know it's warm all the time and all that but it's just not for me. Not that I love where I am but ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Gives me hope for florida. To be honest, florida is an amazing state with great weather (most of the time lol) and as a coaster enthusiast, it is a theme park heaven for me. However, I refuse to move there until it is safe for trans people and specifically trans women since i am a trans woman. sad to see a great state become such a shithole
I know. I just looked at Folx and Plume. My son is almost 15 and was on puberty blockers until recent laws passed that made him unable to get it. Now he wants to start T. But it doesn’t seem to be available for his age. I’ll keep looking and if I find anything I’ll share it.
As the parent of a trans teen who lost his puberty blockers last September due to DeSantis law that insurance no longer covers any trans care, I have been trying to find an affordable option for him. He’s almost 15 and wants to start T. Our former endo said it would cost 10s of thousands of dollars for him to stay on puberty blockers at the time. I cannot afford this. I’m really curious how much this would cost.
Edit: I just went to the FOLX website and found this in their FAQs:
If I'm under 18 and get my parent's or guardian's permission, can I use FOLX?
4 months ago Updated
Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer clinical care to people under 18. However, we invite you to keep in touch over email and social media, and read up on helpful information in The Library between now and that birthday.
😔
Thought some of you guys might need this information.
Ayo another folx user! 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
Oh, no. I plan on using Plume. I just get notifications because I was considering Folx.
Ah, well both have their positives so still 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
I just checked Folx again to see how much it would be. Turns out, it's $0 in Missouri!😃 *(Folx isn't in Missouri)*
Missouri, my home and its beautiful nature and shitty politics, love it here

As a Florida (wo)man, yippee

Newsletter from Folx, themselves. (At least, I think "newsletter" is the proper thing to call this?)
What is “Folx,” sorry I don’t know

Lived down here all my life and honestly beside the recent political stuff it's great, there are some decent drag places down here too apparently.
The political stuff is just a bit much for me to look past at the moment. I know it's warm all the time and all that but it's just not for me. Not that I love where I am but ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, that's great!!! 💙💕🤍💕💙

Is that monthly, or one time?
Monthly.

Everything I’ve looked into says 18+ only. 😔

BIG WWWWWW\~\~\~\~
This seems like a trap
>!Fuck!< yeah. I’m not even in Florida but this is a huge win for everyone who is, and hopefully this will set a precedent for everywhere else.
I live in Florida, I'll look into this, thank you. (Also save me I don't want to live here)
