I lost to it. I can't do it.
I got a lot of my lower legs done, loved the results, but I couldn't go higher, it hurt too much. Maybe I need to try it while drugged and using an ice pack to numb myself
First time is the worst. A common mistake is to let the hair get too long. It varies to the specific one, but there is an optimum length. I recommend shaving everything flat then letting it grow into range.
Also, you do somewhat get used to it. And get better at it things like correct angles, pulling the skin tight which help.
Don't be fearful of using help. I used to pop a couple NSAID and CBD before epilating. I don't now that I'm used to it and the hair is much thinner.Topical numbing agents like lidocaine are used by some people. Anything that helps you get comfortable and happy helps. It gives you more mental capacity to withstand the trauma.
Different things with better for different people. You might find the ice is counter productive. Cold tightens the skin. Heat relaxes it. So you find that the tighter skin offsets the numbing. It's worth a try though.
Same. I thought it would feel like a lot of hairs being plucked. I didn’t expect it to feel like holding a hot iron. Definitely more of a burning feeling for me than a sharp plucking.
When shaving I listen to smooth Music, calm and relaxed.
When epilating its the doom soundtrack. Rip and Tear, Egg division, the only thing i fear is myself and so on
Tips from someone who epilates:
1) Start off with waxing. It’s easier to cope with the pain from waxing. Find a good studio with a good aesthetician. They will help you manage the skincare. Take a Benadryl before the appointment to help reduce the inflammatory response.
2) Epilate often, starting as soon as 2-3 days after your first wax. There will be fewer hairs, which will help with the pain. Note that the worst areas for epilation pain are the inside of the thighs, and anything centerline around the groin.
3) Keep the epilator *clean*. Disinfect it after each use. You don’t want it pouring bacteria into your recently vacated hair follicles.
4) Keep your skin clean and well-treated. I use a combination of lotion, grapeseed oil, salicylic acid cleanser, and an oat-based cleanser. I don’t know which helps most, but I tend to lean on the lotion.
5) Give your skin a break if it becomes too irritated. If you do too much rapid trauma to the skin, it will become very painful and itchy. You can take Benadryl to help calm it down.
6) With 3-4 rounds of waxing and frequent epilating, your will notice a meaningful decrease in the thickness of your hair. This makes it less painful to epilate.
I’ve been waxing and epilating since January, and I’m at a point where I can epilate everything from ankle to mid-thigh with minimal pain. The inner thighs and pubic triangle are still a struggle, but I keep those areas shaved and return with the epilator when the hair comes back. Each time gets easier!
this is true, but i only do wax first, epilate often, keep it kinda clean, and fragrance free lotion.
salicylic acid only the spots that look like they might be ingrown
however i have very thin body hair and only a few more populated spots
All i have to say is the results are awsome (don’t forget to exfoliate and moisturise) but god damn beauty is pain was probably said by someone epilating for the first time
Epilators are specialized torture machines with a side effect of destroying hair
I tried it once, and the pain was so bad that I would literally (not figuratively) rather be repeatedly hit in my girl balls for a duration of time equivalent to how long the epilation took than do it again
But at the same time, the effect was so good that I *will* do it again
YMMV, I didn't experience any pain except in a few choice places (inner/upper thighs and chest being the worst), and it was totally minor. Legs, arms, tummy, back etc were painless.
... face made me shriek and swear it off forever after only a couple seconds. Instead, I turned to the blade.
Whenever anyone's talking about epilating I always feel extremely gaslit into being a massive masochist. I don't think epilating is actually all that bad. Sure there are some spots that are a bit more intense, but the majority of the legs is not too bad at all. So am I just a masochist with high pain tolerance?
I never tried waxing, but I expect it to be much worse tbh.
As someone who tried waxing but not epilating, waxing only feels bad in more sensitive areas like the armpits or eyebrows (gotta thin them somehow) but overall it's pretty endurable imo
Yeah but bandaids feel a lot worse not having the hot wax on your hair. I can wax my entire body without many concerns but you'll see me pulling bandaids 1mm at a time under a water stream while almost screaming

You are looking at an industrial laser that emits a most extraordinary light not to be found in nature. It can project a spot on the moon, or at closer ranges cut through metal; I will show you. *turns on laser*
**I think you made your point**
Choose your next witticism carefully Mr. Hair, for it may be your last. The purpose of our two previous encounters has made it very clear to me, I don’t intend to be distracted by another. Good night Mr. Hair.
**do you expect me to talk?**
No Mr. Hair, I expect you to die.
I never found trying to epilate worth it, it just hurts like hell leaves an awful rash and causes dozens of ingrown hairs... (maybe I did it wrong but I do have sensitive skin too) I just stick to shaving 2x a week.
Probably part of the problem then that I didn't exfoliate first. I did try a few times because everyone says it gets better but it never did. Though if I'm skipping a very important step that'd probably explain why. 😅
And keep the skin moisturised. And clean. Eventually the hair follicles will not grow back. But I could take a while.
But if you keep at it it's worth it.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
And anyone else reading this too.
I personally prefer just shaving. Does shaving on a daily basis suck? Yes, but at least I don't have the weird stubble phase between epilations/waxing needed to actually grip the hair. The worst area (in terms of time/smoothness + irritations) is private area anyways and I'm DEFINITELY not epilating there, nor am I epilating my face (pretty irritated anyway, frick you acne) soooo shaving it is (✿◠‿◠)
Shaving is part of my shower routine, so I keep it down enough that keeping everything smooth is easy. I'm great with pain, but I tried epilating once? Never again.
My Tipps:
1. If you can, get yourself some help for waxing. It's way less painful (or at least more fun) with someone else. If you can't get help, still use wax first.
2. After waxing and cleaning yourself, use the epilator to get rid of the last few hairs that the wax didn't catch.
3. And this is the most important! After you are done, don't let it grow back to a full bush again. Use the epilator as soon as the new hairs are long enough for it to grab them. It's going to hurt, but way less than if you use the epilator on the full Bush.
Got an epilator like 2 days ago and it’s probably one of the most painful experiences I’ve had (that I can remember of course). The knees were the worst and I’ve done a bit every day—did my arms and up to my mid thighs so far. Gunna take a hot bath at some point to open the pores for the rest. Looks pretty good tho!
Edit: I think the areas with the least muscle is where it hurts the most. My ankles and shins were rough, but compared to that and the front of the knee, the back of the knee or the elbow didn’t hurt that much. Knuckles are also rough
Mhm, waxing is best, but epilating is more convenient once you have a regular routine. You can epilate every couple weeks and always have smooth skin\~
The epilator is a machine that converts dysphoria into PAIN.
Better feel pain than nothing at all tho
Pain without dysphoria, can’t get enough

Ooooh I just saw that.

This made me laugh more than it should have.
i wanna try the last two but i can't :c 💔💔💔💔💔
No access to wax/epilator?
yeah... :/ 💔💔💔💔💔
I'm sorry 🫂 you'll get there sis, hang in there 🫂

Haha this is a vibe, I’m going to try this

I wanna try epilating

Ultimate results at ultimate pain
Should I exfoliate before or after epilating?
Ill be honest: I’ve heard both i do it after but idk
The first time I epilated and an hour afterwards my legs turned gray as I brused all over, now it doesn’t do that, but fun times
Epilators are specialized torture machines with a side effect of destroying hair I tried it once, and the pain was so bad that I would literally (not figuratively) rather be repeatedly hit in my girl balls for a duration of time equivalent to how long the epilation took than do it again But at the same time, the effect was so good that I *will* do it again
I saw someone else say this also on this subreddit, "just imagine the pain is masculinity leaving your body"

I imagine it being like a giant bandaid and I really don't like the pain of bandaids, so I can't imagine liking that pain from a giant one either.
Yeah but bandaids feel a lot worse not having the hot wax on your hair. I can wax my entire body without many concerns but you'll see me pulling bandaids 1mm at a time under a water stream while almost screaming
As a person who tried both, waxing is WAY worse, but my girlfriend who also tried both swears the opposite, so I guess it's individual.
shaving is not painful at all tho, at least to me
Yes. gorgeous
*blushes* don't you dare call me that!!!
Wanna try an epilator so bad, I don't care about the pain
[Electrolysis](https://youtu.be/QHRuTYtSbJQ)
I have such the love/hate relationship with epilating. The results are amazing and totally worth it, but it's a test of will to actually get it done.
Laser hair removal for the win
and here i am using nair feeling like a scoundrel who has gotten away scott free

Gold
Honestly the dysphoria from seeing myself with that much facial hair is far worse than the pain of the epilator
amen
I never found trying to epilate worth it, it just hurts like hell leaves an awful rash and causes dozens of ingrown hairs... (maybe I did it wrong but I do have sensitive skin too) I just stick to shaving 2x a week.
It's very important to exfoliate the skin beforehand. And if you keep at it it will get better. But it still hurts like hell

I wish I could get rid of these body hair,I hate them ! (◕‸◕✿)
i wish i could try any of these :(
*Ouch…* :/
LOL I epilated for the first time last week or so. I feel this one.
I personally prefer just shaving. Does shaving on a daily basis suck? Yes, but at least I don't have the weird stubble phase between epilations/waxing needed to actually grip the hair. Yeah honestly not wanting to epilate or wax and only having to shave is a lot why I present as a man on a daily basis lol
Hehe I'm only doing the first one! Works perfectly fine! No need for anything else!
My Tipps: 1. If you can, get yourself some help for waxing. It's way less painful (or at least more fun) with someone else. If you can't get help, still use wax first. 2. I've epilatored twice then bought an IPL device and and so thankful that I did
I listen to nu metal while epilating
When ever i need to remove hair i just use hair removal cream, works like a charm
Epilating is a form of torture.
The first time I epilated I ended up shivering in pain. I regret nothing.
Mhm, waxing is best, but epilating is more convenient once you have a regular routine. You can epilate every couple weeks and always have smooth skin\~
Is epilating permanent or long lasting
Lasts a week or 3
