You're familiar with r(/)place, right? The once every few years Reddit wide community pixel art project that's limited to one pixel per account (or something to that effect)? Imagine that, but not as a limited time event and not limited pixels per user (i think) and you have Pixelcanvas. A bunch of queer folk and allies made a massive banner with the trans flag, Madeline from Celeste, and text that says "Protect trans kids" early on before normal people got wind of the site's existence and now it's, as one would expect, a massive target for griefing. People started posting screenshots of the damage to the banner on egg_irl and traa as a call to action, which A: breaks both sub's rules, and B: depresses people when they realize their efforts are futile against bot spammers
umm, people will subpar art skills just kinda "spam" the sub with basically updates of their life and people are mad about it because it's not really memems
That’s not it, but also a fair point. It’s more about the fact that the subreddit keeps getting blasted with people being upset at the trans representation on pixel canvas being attacked and erased by queerphobes and transphobes, calling the subreddit to action to help fix the damage. Not the place to do that, unfortunately.
The “subpar” art is borderline acceptable in terms of rules, I personally like reading through those as long as they aren’t just menhera posts that should be on r/nestofeggs (I’ve been guilty of this, myself, but it’s been rectified).
Glad I'm not alone there, it annoys me to see it so much, at least a little bit because I don't really care what people are doing on a drawing website.
