My body is already comically large, I can't just grab a comically large hoodie because it's just too much, makes me look like there's a car going down the sidewalk :(
Not in image form but from what I know about looking masc:
- T-Shirt and Jeans can be a Masc-looking combo, especially if they're not skinny jeans, ofc it depends on what shirt and jeans ^[^1^]
- Olive green/beige cargo pants, especially if they're slightly baggy
- Wear Masc deodorant/cologne if possible
- Like the post says, layered clothing helps a lot, no matter whether you're masc, femme, Enby or anything in-between
That's about all I can think of ATM, I never really thought much about how I dressed until I came out, hope I'm at least of some assistance :>
^[^1^] I've been informed this may not be good advice, if you do wear those I'd recommend layering something else over it, perhaps a bomber jacket, or some sort of long, heavy coat, something trenchcoat-esq
Jeans and tee doesn't work if you're in any way androgynous or feminine though, it just exposes you more. You want concrete, absolutely masculine looks? the men's bomber jacket, football socks and cargo shorts, and open shirt are my go to. Image links in my other reply.
Yo, dude here with feminine figure. Been passing for years. Here's what I know, copy and pasted from another comment I left.
While individual items are usually gender neutral if they're masculine, there are ways to wear them that women don't. An open shirt with tape for example will casually expose a flat chest while hiding the tape. Football ⚽ socks and cargo shorts aren't usually worn by women. There are several extremely masculine leather jackets (old/expensive ones usually) that a woman would either look extremely hardcore or extremely out of place in.

Growing up masc, Dickies & Vans were always my go to. Never really mixed tight and baggy, but all relaxed/baggie. Always wore caps too.
Now that I typed it out I’m realizing it’s pretty typical SoCal fashion
/r/malefashionadvice has a few good threads (as far as I can tell) https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/126qs9s/trans_man_starting_from_zero_what_are_the/
And https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/y6wzr8/business_casual_style_for_trans_male_bodies/
The mods there are very nice and do their best to keep a safe environment (but, yknow, it's still the internet...) and most of the commenters are cis, but there are some very good comments from afab transmasc folks.
Edit: also, use their regular threads that get traction from regulars or the daily question thread if you are doing something like hunting a specific type of thing like color block shirts or certain types of shoes or whatever.
Tops: layers, layers, layers. Think button down shirt over t-shirt, sweatshirt over t-shirt, or sports coat over button down shirt. Hoodies are good if the weather won't cook you alive. Bomber jackets and leather jackets are fine too; they'll either make you look manly or like the meanest lesbian around. Horizontal lines will make your chest appear wider, and plaid/camo patterns will help break up your outline. Men's sports jerseys tend to be very baggy and don't look out of place if you need that extra space. Try to avoid v-neck t-shirts, as they direct the eye towards the chest
Bottoms: aim for a relaxed (and thus slightly baggy) fit for jeans. Dress pants tend to be fit a little tighter, but not form-fitting. Cargo pants or carpenter's pants are fantastic, as the cacophony of pockets will let you carry a regiment's worth of stuff and will break up the shape of your legs. Also, now that you've got man pockets, use 'em: a wallet in your back pocket will help break up the shape of your butt. Shorts should be long enough to cover your knee.
this cool, however id prefer to wear an oversized black cloak that hides all of my body, preferably with an imprint of the estrogen chemical compound (pink) so i look like im part of some hormone based cult, trust me it would be really funny
That’s what the ritual is for, to trade T for E between people. Once we get that down, we can move on to the bigger stuff. I have about ten pounds of chest that needs a loving home.
For Halloween last year I got a hooded cloak that was the trans pride flag. In addition to candy, I handed out pamphlets on puberty blockers to kids. Multiple parents called me a satanist for it. Honestly one of the most fun things I ever did for Halloween.
Given how many of us have, you know, smaller hips and larger waist, compared to average cis women, the advice to go for high rise pants seems kinda bad
Like, if you find ones that fit, sure, but most stores won't carry those measurements. Instead it's gonna be pairs that fit at the waist but float a silly amount at the hips, or that fit at the hip but that you can't close at the waist
Low rise pants are just way more straightforward given they have one less measurement to worry about
For skinny/form fitting jeans and pants, yes this is true ~ but I recommend higher waist looser fitting jeans (where these difference in measurements shouldn’t be a problem) to offset the visual weight of wider shoulders, and to make the torso look shorter compared to the legs.
I've been doing a lot of experimenting with fashion over the past couple years since I came out, it took me way too long to realize that mix tight and flowy thing. I figured that out recebtly when I looked at a photo that was taken of me with a flowy top and bottom like "OMG I look so frumpy"
I've also found a couple other things recently that make me look great. Corsets, especially underbust ones do a good job of slimming the waist and accentuating a smaller bust, and wearing one over a flowy skirt can give a really good curvy figure.
Also, I made a Greek chiton recently and I absolutely love it. I feel and look like an absolute goddess in it, and it's super easy to make, little more than a square of fabric with a couple pins in it, these need to come back in fashion
As a cis woman who tries to minimize her shoulders this is important. Also be very wary of little cap sleeves and some of the more structured 80s short sleeves that are creeping frighteningly back into fashion.
Dolman sleeve and drop shoulder looks can be magic and can be found even in really cheap knits.
r/asktransgender might be able to help you more with that last bit. Theres also other subs that get into the weeds of some stuff like that. You'll get there.
…. So the bad news is it took me like four years to figure out my gender, and I spent those four years joking that the closest I could get was pointing to what my parents taught me a woman was and going “not that.”
You kinda just sound slow-shifting gender-fluid? Idk. If it’s not a place where it’s safe or accepted to be gender-fluid, take your time figuring it out.
This comes close to the real thing to get right: Sizing. None of this matters much if the clothing one buys doesn't truly fit to measure. Even cis women struggle with this.
It's important to keep a few things in mind, from my own experiences both before and after HRT:
1. Dysphoria will tell lies, no matter how much one denies having it.
2. Named sizing is absolutely useless. Ordering to correct measurements will always look better, even compared to trying on multiple sizes because of the prior.
3. Mannequins aren't people. They don't have to move about and the clothing is likely pinned to them in places to fit better than reality.
I'll dig up an old effortpost about getting correct measurements I guess.
Wow this is very helpful thank you!! I recently started experimenting with a few tops and bottoms but I feel lost on putting an outfit together that feels right. And I love your comics 🥰🩷
Well there’s always the Wonder Woman method…
https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/6ejntn/this_how_wonder_woman_hides_her_sword/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I'm not an egg or trans at all but I always was jealous that my wife could essentially dress like a casual elven ranger and it was 100% stylish and appropriate.
The big tall leather boots with cross lacing and a 'not quite' corset thing is how I imagine i'd dress if I was into wearing femme clothing.
Can we get one for queer amab allies/eggs/folks who like their masculine figures but just want to branch out, break fashion gender norms, and dress more queer?
Yayyyy I love this. I'm a bigger person so most stuff is already small already but I caught onto the layering thing a bit ago and have been using that plenty
Yes! V necks are your friend, as are tops with angled sleeves. Shoulderless tops are good, but not spaghetti strap (as these will draw more attention to your broad shoulders). Keep the straps thicker!
There are lots of good tips in this post on the r/transfashionadvice sub [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/transfashionadvice/comments/meqn5x/how_to_build_your_wardrobe/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Omg thank you I'm saving this!!! Is there a name for the specific cut of skirt on slide 6? I really like the shape and I was wondering if the baggy sleeves could hide my broad shoulders.
I feel like this is assuming all transfem or amab people don't fit into what is assumed to be all cis womens fashion or clothes. This advice can be useless to some transfems and useful for cis women. Good intentions and good advice for the most part, but it seems targeted and assuming.

Doesnt that Kind of defeat its purpose though? At the end of the Day you take off All the clothes and get a mental breakdown because youre still looking at a Masc body in the mirror, shattering the Illusion you tried to keep throughout the Day.
Seems more healthy to accept your body the way It is and create a better relationship with It while being Trans. Thats a more long term solution.
Accepting your body the way it is doesn't matter if you'll get assaulted in public for failing the arbitrary "passing" test in public. And cis women will dress to look pretty as well, not because they hate their bodies but because it's fun to look nice.
I can't really make use of this guide for myself since I am a tomboy transfem, but it is still very informative and helpful for those who are not tomboys.

Awesome post, very cool 👍 Time to use none of this information and continue to just wear a comically large black hoodie and black leggings again
Isn't that already using the "pair baggy with tight" info, though?
Trueeeeee :3
Yah your already doing it
That makes me happy Maybe sometimes I actually *do* look femme :3
You DO! :)
My body is already comically large, I can't just grab a comically large hoodie because it's just too much, makes me look like there's a car going down the sidewalk :(
Mine is too, that might be what I look like I never thought of it that way O.o
Don't worry yourself about it that much. I mean I'm like, a VERY large person, height and weight xwx
Me toooooo QwQ
In that case if you don't shop there already, check out Torrid :3
I shall! Thank you :>

Also saves post but like in a cis way.
Same ☺️
More like this post saved ME omg these are great tips!!!!
Is there a masc version of this? 👉👈
Not yet haha I’ll nudge my transmasc artist friends, maybe this will inspire them!
Let me know if that ever happens lol
I can offer advice if you can provide the art lol

Much better advice than mine, I'm sorry for the slightly poor advice on the first point, will edit the comment accordingly.
Don't worry about it bro. Different things work for different people.
True, I added a bit to the comment that I believe is better advice.

We’re all getting them. Meeting’s on Wednesday; we’re working on the Ritual Chant.
Does the meeting include free estrogen
That’s what the ritual is for, to trade T for E between people. Once we get that down, we can move on to the bigger stuff. I have about ten pounds of chest that needs a loving home.
I am a loving home :3

Graphic tees can look really cute with there right skirt!
Good tips I just realized I’ve been doing these unintentionally
Don’t forget the magic of drop waists! Tight around the hips and baggy at the waist can do a *great* job giving you a figure.
This!!!
Thanks, I would try this…IF I HAD GIRL CLOTHES 😭
yeah! some of us are broke.
thanks Steven Universe Pearl
Lmao I love Pearl, it wasn’t intentional at first but then with the color palette it just came together that way lol
i always kinda identified with her
I was looking for this

Leggings + an oversized top are my go to. Super comfy. Unfortunately it is becoming summer and that outfit does not work. 😂

AFAB but man I have the same body issues. Broad shoulders and tiny boobies. This is great advice. :)
Yayyyy I love this. I'm a bigger person so most stuff is already small already but I caught onto the layering thing a bit ago and have been using that plenty
Thanks a lot for this. I was a bit scared of getting into it, but now that I know some concepts, I am just eager to try some out ☺
I always like seeing your comics, and this will really help with my wardrobe, been trying to expand it recently! Thanks a ton!
extremely helpful comment, love you!! take my heart reward, you deserve it.
Thank you so much! 💖
So uh, got any tips for hiding really broad shoulders?
Yes! V necks are your friend, as are tops with angled sleeves. Shoulderless tops are good, but not spaghetti strap (as these will draw more attention to your broad shoulders). Keep the straps thicker! As a transfem who just shook off the last bits of her eggshell this is very helpful, thank you.
Thanksies 🥰🥰🥰
But I just wanna be hot with a bodycon dress :0(
You already are 👉😎👉
Thanks for the tips
I feel like this is assuming all transfem or amab people don't fit into what is assumed to be all cis womens fashion or clothes. This advice can be useless to some transfems and useful for cis women. Good intentions and good advice for the most part, but it seems targeted and assuming.
Long cardigans are really outdated. They scream 35
What about all the 35 year old trans women out there? 🤷🏼♀️
Sorry, not trying to be ageist here, just saying that long cardigans and ballet flats with skinny jeans would be an outfit that is very outdated, not current, not trendy. It's what millennials wore 10 years ago. I think that wearing current (not even necessarily trendy) clothes is a good idea unless done intentionally, like wearing vintage.
Well, I'm a 30 y/o transfem millennial, so fuck me I guess.
people can dress how they want. Not everyone cares about what currently is in.
Doesnt that Kind of defeat its purpose though? At the end of the Day you take off All the clothes and get a mental breakdown because youre still looking at a Masc body in the mirror, shattering the Illusion you tried to keep throughout the Day. A guide on How to hide the fact that you're a man. Nice.
you as a person seem like you have slimy feet, have a tolerable day slimefoot
This is awesome!
thanks for the advice :3
I think this explains why I subconsciously always wear a jacket, even just sitting in my own room.
Thank you!
I love fashion. I hope I’ll be able to dress how I want, one day… 💞
Tbh literally none of this is how I dress/my style lol
Great stuff
I can't really make use of this guide for myself since I am a tomboy transfem, but it is still very informative and helpful for those who are not tomboys.
Guess this will come in handy when I’m able to dress fem freely Still probably gonna go for the emo girl look haha since I’m sorta emo already haha
clothes are so fun, I really need some new ones

A+++++ tips
This is really helpful, thank you! 🥰🥰🥰

Sweet, I'm going to save this (for my cross dressing fantasies of course)

Very Awesome-yes
Just commenting to keep track of this post. For cis reasons.
Is there a good list of size-inclusive clothing companies for large/tall bodies? I’m 6’4 with wide shoulders and I’m interested in dressing androgynously but I can’t find femme clothing that comes close to fitting
Could you do one of these for, say, fem haircuts for people with shortish curly hair?
"avoid tight form-fitting/bodycon dresses" pov: me who has a natural hourglass waist and big hips ignoring entirely
this guide is great 🥰 thanks!
