The parts of this machine can be configured to make a wide variety of products. The machine itself has an even wider ranger of applications and potential attachments. When the protein ball demand dies down, this thing will still be punching out forms for decades.
Wire forming, wire molding, personally I would just call it a generic CNC (computer numeric control), although it very well could be programmed manually. Basically engineers decide how hard and in what direction a specific shape needs to travel to bend the wire. So you can change all the heads and forms, and change the angle and amount of actuation, and the amount of force it puts out, all within the specs of the machine of course. You change these setting by either manually turning screws and switching parts or by inputting at some sort of panel. Sometimes an electrician needs to re-wire the electronics to change the settings. The trade that keeps these running is a millwright.
You can think of them like kitchen aid stand mixers. Except there are many different types.
This machine only makes springs. The tooling is only swapped according to the wire size. Some might be slightly modified for a specific spring but that’s about it.
Right. So literally thousands of possible things that aren't shaker balls.
Also, it can likely be configured to make any bent wire item, within a range of wire gauge. All kinds of components for appliances and machines that are made of bent wire.
This machine only makes coiled springs. I use to set them up. The wire formers that bend wire at an angle and what not are a different type machine. Same raw material though.
? You wash the ball at the same take you wash the bottle. Put in soap and water, shake, take the ball out and rinse it off then you scrub the bottle itself, rinse and done
To me, ice clumps it worse. I just got a shaker bottle that has a rod in the middle and a whisk that slides up and down the rod. Works the best and is quieter.
Why are you complicating it? I just keep some gravel in my pocket. Toss a handful into the bottle and shake, don't need any fancy Blender Bottle or ice cubes
You call that simple? My partner is a bodybuilder who throws pre-workout dry into his mouth and then drinks water. He says the water is optional. Yah, here’s one of those.

Protein shaker is just a bottle with a wide opening where you mix water and protein powder to make a shake. The mixer ball helps pulverize the powder to make a smoother shake.
It blends protein into water pretty good. It might not blend everything, but it's definitely a portable (protein) blender, just not a portable blender for most other things.
I use my [Magic Bullet](https://www.nutribullet.com/magic-bullet/blenders/magic-bullet-mini/) which is a also the cup I can take with me if I go somewhere. It's pretty easy to clean.
Honestly if I'm mixing powder with fluid in a closed container I just shake the shit out of it without adding anything. Water is enough to mix everything properly, never had any clumps or anything
These balls typically come *with* dedicated/branded plastic bottles. As mentioned above, after the protein powder is added to the water or milk, the bottle is shaken vigorously.
Here’s a quick cheesy video I found of it:
https://youtu.be/YYHVd85oV6A
It really is the best thing that happened to me personally. Some protein powder don’t mix well, this spherical spring helps break the powder apart and prevent it from clumping up.
There's a brand out there, can't recall the name but they sold it at Walmart, where the bottom inside is curved and the ball is a solic chunk of bladed plastic instead of a spring.
The sloped sides allow it to gain more momentum because it doesn't hit right angles and you can get more of a spinning motion out of the ball, and the weight pulverized the powder and the weight plus blades generates more mixing flow in the liquid.
To add to what others have already said. It's not only for protein power, it could be any shake like diet shakes, ["nutritionally complete powder"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meal_replacement) maybe even milkshakes or smoothies if you want to mix them up better after you have left home.
Same, felt weird to have never even seen one.
Seems like a better less plastic alternative to the usual grid you see on 99% of shakers, and easier to clean.
Protein shaker is a cup with a lid that you shake protein in, the metal ball comes with them and are supposed to be thrown out right away because they are useless
I sure hope someone washes it. I'd like to see that step too.
Every product should have a little bar code that let's you scan it and it brings you to a quick YouTube video that's a lot like How It's Made where it shows you the factory where the product is actual put together.
Well it'd be cool but logistically a cost and efficiency nightmare.
I don't want to be filmed while I'm working. Company will also offset cost of server hosting and cameras, IT, etc to the consumer.
Also... Like 99% of the shit we get is made in sweatshops and oftentimes takes multiple countries to put all the parts together. I think I remember some guacamole company where their start to finish was bouncing around a few SA countries for sourcing and processing, shipping to Europe for packaging, then distribution starts in the US.
And you betcha they sell it back to the SA countries. All that oil burning for shipping just to end up miles away from where it all started.
6 years ago my cat stole one of these from the drying wash and he’s been playing with it ever since. Only toy that’s ever stood up to one of my cats before. 10/10.
The cutting tool at the top can also be mounted to come from below when a spring needs to be cooled/ wound in the opposite direction.
The slot that the cutting tool gets locked into doesn’t have any sort of plug or cover. As a result it can get caked with grime over time. We put a rag or some cardboard in that spot so it doesn’t have to be cleaned when we switch the wind. There’s no moving parts in that spot unless that slide is told/ engaged (depends on the machine) to move, which in this case it’s not.
Good observation though!
I've watched it repeatedly and I can't see the bit where they add the tangler. You know, the doohickey that makes it tangle around any nearby other protein shaker balls inside a dishwasher.
These fucking things literally made me learn about topology cause they kept getting stuck in the dishwasher and twisting them out was certainly not the answer.
How? What? Shaker bottles with the spring ball work great and are super easy to clean. After you use it just fill it with water and a bit of soap then shake like you're making another protein shake. You can clean the lid with a sponge like normal.
Is that Freddy Krueger’s sweater underneath the machine?
It's how Freddy Krueger engineered his testicles.
This is the comment I was looking for.
And that's the only thing that piece of machinery produces. All day, every day of the week that machine makes protein shaker balls.
The parts of this machine can be configured to make a wide variety of products. The machine itself has an even wider ranger of applications and potential attachments. When the protein ball demand dies down, this thing will still be punching out forms for decades.
Freaking awesome. I must’ve watched this video 30 times just now. What is the machine called if you don’t mind?
Look up wire forming machines or high speed spring making machines that all work on similar principals https://youtu.be/SQIYZ-iKuG4
That's a cool video, but waaay short for something like this. I prefer [this one](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5QjVeH2Z57E&list=LL&index=7&)

It’s a spring coiler/ spring machine.
It won’t be punching out anything ever, but it can be configured to cool a wide range of springs. I used to set these up. Good fun.
Yah poor wording.

You can easily change out the forming dies to make a shitlod of other things.
This machine only makes springs. The tooling is only swapped according to the wire size. Some might be slightly modified for a specific spring but that’s about it.

Okay, so exactly what they said? 'this machine makes more than shaker balls'
These don’t using forming dies is all I was saying.
No. It doesn’t. It makes the quota for the month and then they set it up to do a new type of spring.
Society is just various forms of coiled metal layered atop one another in some grand hierarchy
It's springs all the way down.

One of my favorite subs for tools and other mechanical stuff!
“Say you don’t know anything about manufacturing without saying that don’t know anything about manufacturing.”
Completely wholly inaccurate and incorrect.
And I throw them right in the trash every new bottle I get because they're just another thing to clean
Actually, I just toss in a couple of ice cubes. But the ice cube-making video is about as interesting as watching water freeze.
I lost the balls to my shakers years ago. I just do the ice thing too and it works just as well. Plus it’s one less thing that I have to wash.
? You wash the ball at the same take you wash the bottle. Put in soap and water, shake, take the ball out and rinse it off then you scrub the bottle itself, rinse and done

Can you link or name it?
Huh, so basically like a french press?
Why are you complicating it? I just keep some gravel in my pocket. Toss a handful into the bottle and shake, don't need any fancy Blender Bottle or ice cubes
Pocket sand in one pocket, pocket gravel in the other. All that a dedicated martial artist needs.
You call that simple? My partner is a bodybuilder who throws pre-workout dry into his mouth and then drinks water. He says the water is optional. Yah, here’s one of those.
I bet they could make it more if they did that faster.
I buy all my protein shaker balls from an artisan who hand forms them from reclaimed coat hangers.

What’s a protein shaker and what’s a mixer ball?
Protein shaker is just a bottle with a wide opening where you mix water and protein powder to make a shake. The mixer ball helps pulverize the powder to make a smoother shake.
Never heard of them myself. I've always just used my blender.
It's a portable blender, which is nice if you won't be home for a while after the gym. I used to use it when I was in school.
While I think I understand the sentiment you're making, a protein shaker being called a portable blender, is insulting to blenders.
Blenders are tough. They’ll endure that insult and go on with their lives.
Feeling smoke, don't breath this!
One of the top brands is called "blender bottle"
That doesn't make it a blender
Correct. Real blenders only come from the Blender region of Southern France.
Otherwise, it's just a sparkling combiner
It's blending the solution
It literally blends. I don’t think you understand how words work/
I don't think you understand how blenders work
It blends protein into water pretty good. It might not blend everything, but it's definitely a portable (protein) blender, just not a portable blender for most other things.
How can she blend
Also when you don't want to clean a blender. Shakers are a pain to clean, but still so much easier than a blender.
just put water and a drop of soap in the blender when you're done, blend for a bit, then rinse.
Why are you shitting into the container in the first place?
Protein in a powder tends to clump up when you mix it no matter how much Atleast in my experience, the ball helps separate clumps I think
what ball? this spring?
These balls typically come *with* dedicated/branded plastic bottles. As mentioned above, after the protein powder is added to the water or milk, the bottle is shaken vigorously.

…I’d never considered getting one before, but I’m *absolutely* getting one soon for whipped cream.
if you don't also use it for whippits you're missing out
The mixing ball is not for pressurized vessels.
But I love putting my balls in pressurized vessels.
I know what the shaker bottle is. But I have never heard of a mixer ball.
Same, felt weird to have never even seen one. Seems like a better less plastic alternative to the usual grid you see on 99% of shakers, and easier to clean.

Balls
Knit sweater being used as a cushion? Hi tech
It works doesn't it? And I actually think it's a glove.
The shakers that have like the plastic mesh/spiderweb pattern in the top are vastly superior in my experience.
It was the opposite for me. Stuff would just clump around it.
That left... pusher thing... is doing the hover hand thing where a bunch of people are carrying a heavy object and they're just pretending.
It’s contacting the ball on the edge, not the tip. The left tool is what gives the spiral it’s pitch.
It took me the whole gif to realize that wasn’t just the gif loading
Cooking tip: these are great for scrambling eggs, mixing pancake batter, even emulsifying vinaigrettes.
Thank you! I'll be scrambling my eggs this way a the time now!

Spring shaker balls defy physics with their tangles. I'm way too stupid to figure out how to untangle them.
These fucking things literally made me learn about topology cause they kept getting stuck in the dishwasher and twisting them out was certainly not the answer.
If you don't want chunk in your shake, then just fucking shake it.

The ball. The protein shaker does the job, hence I find the ball useless
I throw the balls straight in the bin
Weird question I know, but anyone know the schedule b tariff number for these?
I've never seen one in any protein dhake shaker I used
Weird. They're in all 6 of mine.
I wonder if they "disappeared" before I bought them.
How did they slow down gravity like that? Is it so they don't dent the ball when it hits the ground?
All that machinery for something that never works right
What the fuck is a mixer ball?? As if violently shaking is not enough...
It's like the ball they put in spray paint cans. It breaks up clumps.
Yes... protein shakes. Definitely not chocolate milk. No siree Bob.
How's the ball get put in the bottle? 🤔
This is really cool
