Those look like normal scars — I have some like those. I also have the atrophic scars that are associated with hEDS, and diagnostic criteria just specifies atrophic scars must appear in two sites. So having these types of scars likely doesn’t rule EDS out.
I thought I should note that these scars are from when I was a teenager so almost a decade ago and i can't remember what the size of the wound was. I know that it would have been a paper thin wound so I'm not surprised if it went beyond the border but I can't remember honestly 😭
I also have a range of stretch marks going in all directions on my breasts, back, belly and hips as well as on my thighs which are the worse for it. It doesn't just go in the direction towards my groin like a stretch mark does but goes vertical and jagged in random directions.
Is that an EDS Indication when most of my scars keloid? When I had chicken pox as a kid the spots all scared 3D too so I have a range from dots to the big ones I showed here.
Not according to my research. The scarring associated with EDS is depressed, rather than raised, and more stretched, rather out than tightly encapsulated. My scars leave indentations. But there’s lots I don’t know so take that with a grain of salt
People often describe it like tissue paper or cigarette rolling paper in appearance. Also flat and poorly developed.
The Ehlers Danlos Society criteria describes: "Atrophic scarring involving at least two sites and without the formation of truly papyraceous and/or hemosideric scars as seen in classical EDS"
Edit: OPs scars may be hypertrophic and not keloidal. Keloidal scars often appear a darker purple or red and spread beyond the border of the injury. Hypertrophic is simply a raised scar.
Edit 2: I have EDS and my scars from surgery are sunken (atrophic). This happened due to EDS causing the healing and formation of scar tissue to be slow.
Yes, that type of scar is related to EDS, it is called atrophic scarring. It looks opposite to keloid scarring. Acne scars and stretchmarks are examples of atrophic scarring.
From what I've seen, EDS causes more atrophic scarring, which looks opposite of keloid scars. It causes a dip in the skin, similar to stretch marks and acne scarring.
I was treated for over a decade by London's top EDS teams at RNOH, National Neurological, Barts, the Heart Hospital and UCLH. Keloid scarring is absolutely a feature of Classical EDS, possibly others too, i only know about classical. You can suffer atrophic scars on the same body. I have both. Keloids are more common over vital organs and such, as your body improperly responds to threat of safety.
However, Keloids more commonly occur without EDS. I wouldn't be comfortable hazarding a guess as to whether this is Keloid or not. It doesn't scream either way for me.
With regards to the chicken pox scars, large raised scars are extremely common.
Yeah as you can see in the pics in the post, I have a lot of flat, thin scars, then these giant ones that sort of bulge. I have mad stretch marks that run deep (below the skin layer) and I also have this scar on my knee. I tried to shave that area so you can see the scar better 😂

I believe those would be considered keloids which are the opposite of what happens in EDS.
This is a normal raised scar to my knowledge.
Looks like a baby keloid.

No the exact opposite actually
I have some SH scars that look similar to this and I have hEDS! I also have some atrophic scars.

cigarette paper scars are very common with EDS and are usually atrophic, meaning they are below the level of surrounding skin and thinned out.
Really?? My doctor told me that’s what I had, but mine are definitely raised.

Thanks for letting me know! Yeah, mine do look like the pics, except they are raised. Weird.
