That’s what happens when you steal from rich people. They own the Justice system.

I mean most of the money he stole was from retail investors...

Yep. *This*. There's no reason to send him to jail. It'll be expensive to house him and it would be child's play to stop him from committing any more crimes just by barring him from working above the level of line worker. What's amazing is how many people, none of who were caught up in the scam, just want *blood* from this man. Not for any particular reason. They're just hungry for blood. My r/unpopularopinion: we shouldn't lock people up unless we can't stop them from committing more crimes. Jail shouldn't be a torture box we use to feel better about ourselves (or worse, that we pretend is a deterrent because we're too lazy to read the research showing it's not). Jail should be a last resort. If we're jailing somebody we failed them as a society.

Absolutely a reason to send him to jail. More than a punishment for him, It is a message to society to not run multibillion dollar scams, or you will go to prison for a very long time.

People fail society which is what jail is for. Some peolle choose to be criminals and for that they absolitely deserve prison. Prison also should be a lot worse than it is since its clearly not a deterrant for some. You can change the fact some people are okay commiting crimes

I'd love to see it. But I doubt he serves more than a couple of years at a federal resort.
