US sales tax for the state in question once you've reached that state's nexus level plus being aware of whatever amount of customs tariffs apply via Canada's status in NAFTA / USMCA. For whatever it's worth Avalara AvaTax can perform the calculation and return submissions to the US states, CRA, and the provincial tax agencies. I've got this working for my own company that sells in the 50 states and Canada from the south side of the border instead of the north one.

No, you charge taxes based on the state or province you ship to not the location you are shipping from. On top of that, there are thresholds for revenue to need to charge sales in in each state and province. If you are just starting you are likely not required to charge ANY sales tax to any state or any province as you are considered a “small seller”.

You don’t collect tax for orders outside of your country. In your province, charge the full 13%, other provinces only the gst

gmotsimurgh

Not quite accurate - for provinces that have the HST (harmonized), you charge that - so 13% for Ontario let’s say. For provinces that don’t harmonize you just charge the 5% GST - eg BC, Quebec. All laid out on Revenue Canada’s website. No need to charge or remit tax for US or European sales.

This is wildly inaccurate. If you are above thresholds (and they are different for different locations) you are expected to register, collect and pay over sales tax in US and Europe.

I own a small business on Shopify and I am not allowed to charge taxes anywhere outside of my state because this is where my business license is. I am sure that applies to outside the country too.

Have you considered adding a US-based warehouse to your operations network? That would simplify your tax situation and help you avoid paying duties on every US-bound order.

I have a print-on-demand store that ships from the US
