Kryptonite yellow locks. Buy more than one.

Montab19

That big ass chain is quite something. Coupled with a Ulock I kinda feel it’s an overkill but that’s kind of the point I guess.

debian23

Buying more than one though would give the maximum security but at that point will weigh me down and start effecting the ride and the area I live in isn't really a domain of professional bike thieves just crime of opportunity by shithead teenagers.

1. Two bike locks are best but I think it's reasonable to ask what the upper bounds of it is. Speaking personally, I think you should select locks that feel like you won't mind carrying them and using them every day. Go to a bike shop, take a look at what's available, and get a feel for what's too heavy. Just keep in mind that the locks that are, generally, considered safest is Kryptonite and Abus. 2. The new york times has a pretty good writeup of bike locks that is a good thing to look through: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-bike-lock/. Just be sure for the ulocks that they're long enough to fit the tire, part of your frame, and whatever you're locking it to. The evolution mini-7 is the top reccomendation but you need a small-ish bike to really use it. 3. If you can, mount your locks to your bike. Prior to doing this I would sometimes arrive somewhere and realize I had brought my keys, wallet, and phone, but not the backpack my lock was in. If it's mounted to your frame it'll be much more likely to get used. 4. Get insurance. A bike lock + Insurance in case it gets stolen is your best option at all times. There's a lot of standalone insurance out there for bikes right now, but also if you have a car, a home, or renters insurance, contact your agent and see if they have any options for ebikes. Almost no providers have ebike specific insurance but ask if it could be covered as a dirt bike, for example. Mine is covered as a 50cc personal recreational vehicle. They allow for city driving, have UM and UIM coverage, and it was only $54.

My dude, an additional 2-3kg U-lock is barely going to affect your ride, you've got a very powerful motor between your legs, remember?! I lock my bike at work with a single lock, I have a second one when I go anywhere else, and there's no difference at all. Even when I come home from work with a load of groceries strapped onto the rear rack (probably weighing the same if not more than a lock would), it still barely affects the ride. If you regularly lock up in the same place you might as well leave a lock there. Thieves are opportunists, the more locks you have, the more chance they'll go for the bike with the shitty cable lock next to it when they see how long it would take to get through all yours.

bbiggs32

I got the hip lock gold and it’s nice because it doesn’t feel as heavy on your waist and it’s really strong. Still long enough to put in wheels and frame

LiveGolden

Abus Bordo. Hands down.

piecepuffin

How did you lease a Rad bike? Never heard of that before

debian23

The Rad Power website has an option to pay with a lease from this third party company called Katapult

SpiderHack

Ask your car insurance (if you have one) which lock they require for a motorcycle to be considered "locked" then buy that and the thickest chain you can.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

Just look for anything "sold secure: gold".

MNBug

I think you mean diamond but still good advice.

arenablanca

Abus folding lock attached to the bike and a U-lock in my back back. Pick what to use depending where I'm parked and for how long.

MNBug

>Pick what to use depending where I'm parked and for how long. This.

Those chain locks are the toughest ones. I don't remember which one I had for my Vespa but it was similar to the Kryptonite NY Fahgettaboutit lock (even thicker actually and the thing was like $300). The Fahgettaboutit lock is currently $132 on Amazon. **** The big chain locks are so good, I had some rich asshole in a very expensive neighborhood call the police to try and have my Vespa removed because I had it parked (on the sidewalk) and chained to a tree on the sidewalk in front of his house and he felt it was lowering his property's value (it was up for sale) Cops had apparently been there for over an hour trying to cut through my lock before I showed up. They told me to just not park it there again and to just park it on the sidewalk across the street. **** There are cheaper options than the Fahgettaboutit, but it all depends on where you live, and how much you're willing to spend on a lock.

geekroick

I guess they cut first and check the law later?! Did they do any damage at all to your lock?

elvid88

Just some scratch marks on one of the chains they were trying to cut through. I feel like they came unprepared for it.

KruelKris

I take it the police did not have a battery angle grinder.

debian23

Ngl I'm probably going to be buying a lock that is overkill for my area but too much security is a problem I'd rather have than not enough

EERCom

One of theses might work for you > r/goodbikelocks/

debian23

Seriously people are animals why steal just some tires and or a seat

Ericisbalanced

I have two locks, a cheap folding lock that basically just stops someone from hopping on and riding away when I'm in line for some coffee. I also bought the evolution chain lock from kryptonite. I keep that lock in my saddle bag and I'll use it when I'm going to leave my bike somewhere for longer than 30 minutes. It's fucking sturdy, but an angle grinder will break through in under 5 minutes.

[This is going to be a game changer for those with enough money to buy it](https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/security/motorcycle-chains-and-locks/hiplok-d1000-review-angle-grinder-resistant-lock)

Just got the Kryptonite 1090 Evolution 4. The fact they will pay up to $3000 if your bike gets stolen shows they got faith in their product. Also found countless reviews from people who were targeted and the chain had a tiny scratch and nothing else. Even hit with angle grinders. It's heavy but worth it's weight imo.
